프리즘 커플러를 이용한 도파로형 Au/$SiO_2$ 나노 혼합박막의 광 스위칭 특성 연구 (Study of the optical switching properties in waveguide type Au/$SiO_2$ nanocomposite film using prism coupler)

  • The resonance properties due to the surface plasmon(SP) excitation of metal nanoparticles make the nanocomposite films promising for various applications such as optical switching devices. In spite of the well-known ultra-sensitive operation of optical switches based on a guided wave, the application of nanocomposite film(NC) has inherent limitation originating from the excessive optical loss related with the surface plasmon resonance(SPR). In this study, we addressed this problem and present the experimental and theoretical analysis on the pump-probe optical switching in prism-coupled Au(1 vol.%):$SiO_2$ nanocomposite waveguide film. The guided mode was successfully generated using a near infrared probe beam of 1550 nm and modulated with an external pump beam of 532 nm close to the SPR wavelength. We extend our approach to ultra-fast operation using a pulsed laser with 5 ns pulse width. To improve the switching speed through the reduction in thermal loading effect accompanied by the resonant absorption of pump beam light, we adopted a metallic film as a coupling layer instead of low-index dielectric layer between the high-index SF10 prism and NC slab waveguide. We observed great enhancement in switching speed for the case of using metallic coupling layer, and founded a distinct difference in origin of optical nonlinearities induced during switching operation using cw and ns laser.

프리즘과 광섬유-평면도파로의 소산장 결합을 이용한 자외선 센서 (UV Sensor using Evanescent Field Coupling of Prism and Fiber-to-Planar Waveguide Coupler)

  • A novel UV sensor was manufactured and characterized using the evanescentfield coupling between fiber-planar waveguide (PWG) coupler and prism. A spiroxazine dye was chosen as planar waveguide because its photochromic isomerization induced by UV irradiation. A novel UV sensor was proposed to measure the variation of refractive index and absorption coefficient simultaneously. The wavelength responses of these sensors by UV exposure times were measured 0.48 nm/sec, 0.757 nm/sec, and ATR output power variations were measured $-0.424{\mu}W$/sec and $-0.62{\mu}W$/sec when UV exposure power were 3 mW and 5 mW, respectively.

  • Thermally-assisted magnetic recording (TAMR) is a potentially promising approach to increase the storage density of hard disk drive (HDD). However, TAMR has some issues such as temperature effects, media problems, thermal deformation and light delivery. In this research, we focused on light delivery. One of the powerful methods to deliver the light from laser diode to recording medium is the use of an optical fiber and a specially designed prism. However, the TAMR with optical fiber may have some flyability problems induced by the mounted optical fiber and prism. Also, the TAMR suspension using an optical fiber has high vertical and pitch stiffness. Therefore, p-torque is greatly increased by the optical fiber. Also, flying height (FH) of the slider with TAMR suspension can be largely changed by p-torque. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on the pitch static attitude (PSA) tolerance and the FH by PSA of the TAMR suspension. The FH is investigated using various errors and the PSA tolerance for TAMR suspension is proposed.

머리 위치에 따른 사위도의 변화 (Head Posture-Induced Phoria Deviation)

  • 목적: 머리 위치에 따른 사위도 변화를 평가하고, 외안근의 불균형과 관련하여 좌 우안의 프리즘 량을 달리할 필요성을 확인하고자 하였다. 방법: 20~30세 남자 44명(88안), 여자 16명(32안)을 대상으로 차폐검사, 자각적 굴절검사, 사위검사 및 융합여력검사를 실시하였다. 머리기울임 검사, 얼굴돌림 검사에 따른 사위 변화량을 비교분석하기 위해 본 그래페를 이용하여 측정하였다. 결과: 머리기울임과 얼굴돌림에 따른 사위도 변화는 Morgan 표준의 수평사위 비정상군에서 유의한 차이를 보였고(p<0.05), 특히 근거리 Sheard 기준으로 수평사위 처방이 필요한 그룹에서 근거리 수평사위 변화량이 크게 나타났다(p<0.05). 수평사위 비정상군의 원거리 Sheard 기준으로 처방이 필요한 그룹과 필요하지 않은 그룹 모두 머리 위치에 따라 사위도 변화는 근거리일 경우 보다는 적었다. 결론: 수평사위 비정상군의 Sheard 기준 처방이 필요한 그룹에서 근거리 머리기울임, 얼굴돌림의 수평사위 변화량이 크게 나타났다. 따라서 근거리 사위에서 프리즘 처방을 해야 할 때 좌 우 외안근의 불균형의 존재를 확인하여 좌 우안에 프리즘량을 달리 처방할 필요성이 있는 것으로 본다.

가우스형 에바네슨트파의 광압에 의한 Mie 입자 결합체들의 회전 (Optically induced rotation of combined Mie particles within an evanescent field of a gaussian beam)

  • 파장이 532nm인 선형 파극된 Nd:YAG 레이저 광속을 Gadolimium Gallium Garnet 프리즘 면에서 전반시킬 때 형성된 에바네슨트파 석에 위차한 Mie 입자 결합체들이 광압에 의해 회전하는 것을 관찰하였다. 가우스 광속에 의한 에바슨트파의 최대 강도 지점에서 벗어난 곳에 위치한 3~5$\mu\textrm{m}$ 크기의 라텍스 또는 효모 결합체들이 0.1~1 rpm의 속도로 회전하엿는데, 두입자의 결합체는 광속의 진행 방향과 나란해질 때 회전이 멈추었으나 세입자 이상의 결합체들은 계속 회전하는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 본 실험 결과는 근접장 영역에서 에바네슨트파의 광압에 의한 마이크로 모터의 제작 가능성을 보여준다.

형광, 산란광 동시 촬열법을 이용한 가솔린 분무의 거동에 관한 연구 (Visualization of Gasoline Sprays Via a Simultaneous Inaging of Fluorescence and Scattering Lights)

  • The penetration depth and the size distribution of the droplets of fuel sprays are important in the operation of spark-ignition MPI engines. A fluorescence/scattering image technique for droplet sizing was applied to measure th edroplet size distribution in non-evaporating gasoline sprays. The fluorescence and scattering lights were imaged simultaneously by the two-dimensional visualization system composed of a laser sheet, a doubling prism, optical filters, and a CCD camera. Quantitative droplet size distributions were extracted from evaluating the ratio of the two light densities. The mean droplet size measured by the fluorescence/scattering technique was compared with the result obtained by the enlarged photographs of droplets. The fluorescence/scattering image technique also gives the useful information of the characteristics of droplet impingement in a inclined wall.

Risley Prisms Scanning Optical Imaging System Using Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulator

  • Chromatic aberrations induced by Risley prisms made of a single material can be substantially compensated using a liquid crystal spatial light modulator while still keeping the prism pairs compact, simple and lightweight. A ${\pm}10^{\circ}$ optical scanning imaging system with ${\pm}2^{\circ}$instantaneous field based on LC-SLM correction is designed as an example. The ultimate simulation results show that this kind of scheme is an effective way of improving imaging performance dynamically across the full field of scanning.

  • Abstraction is the cornerstone of ideal software engineering (SWE). This paper discusses a problem of forming reasonable generalizations, representations and descriptions in various software development processes through the prism of poor-quality (rash, unconsidered, uncertain and harmful) abstractions. To do this, emphasis is made on an induced strategic connection between the required abstraction and its compact specific formulation based on existing research and the author's introspective experience. A software aim point and characteristic preservation of the solution integrity is the subject of the best formulation and a program module or code associated with it. Moreover, a personal attitude expressed by personal interest, motivation and creativity, is proclaimed to be a fundamental factor in successful software development.

Protective effect of Capsosiphon fulvescens on oxidative stress-stimulated neurodegenerative dysfunction of PC12 cells and zebrafish larva models

  • Reactive oxygen species (ROS) at high concentrations induce oxidative stress, an imbalanced redox state that is a prevalent cause of neurodegenerative disorders. This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of Capsosiphon fulvescens (CF) extract on oxidative stress-induced impairment of cognitive function in models of neurodegenerative diseases. CF was extracted with subcritical water and several solvents and H2O2 (0.25 mM) or aluminum chloride (AlCl3; 25 µM) as an inducer of ROS was treated in PC12 neuronal cells and zebrafish larvae. All statistical analyses were performed using one-way analysis of variance and Dunnett's test using GraphPad Prism. H2O2 and AlCl3 were found to significantly induce ROS production in PC12 neuronal cells and zebrafish larvae. In addition, they strongly affected intracellular Ca2+ levels, antioxidant enzyme activity, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) signaling, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, and hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease. However, treatment of H2O2-induced PC12 cells or AlCl3-induced zebrafish larvae with CF subcritical water extract at 90℃ and CF water extract effectively regulated excessive ROS production, intracellular Ca2+ levels, and mRNA expression of superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxide, glycogen synthase kinase-3 beta, β-amyloid, tau, AChE, BDNF, and TrkB. Our study suggested that CF extracts can be a potential source of nutraceuticals that can improve the impairment of cognitive function and synaptic plasticity by regulating ROS generation in neurodegenerative diseases.

Modeling of time-varying stress in concrete under axial loading and sulfate attack

  • This paper has numerically investigated the changes of loading-induced stress in concrete with the corrosion time in the sulfate-containing environment. Firstly, based on Fick's law and reaction kinetics, a diffusion-reaction equation of sulfate ion in concrete is proposed, and it is numerically solved to obtain the spatial and temporal distribution of sulfate ion concentration in concrete by the finite difference method. Secondly, by fitting the existed experimental data of concrete in sodium sulfate solutions, the chemical damage of concrete associated with sulfate ion concentration and corrosion time is quantitatively presented. Thirdly, depending on the plastic-damage mechanics, while considering the influence of sulfate attack on concrete properties, a simplified chemo-mechanical damage model, with stress-based plasticity and strain-driven damage, for concrete under axial loading and sulfate attack is determined by introducing the chemical damage degree. Finally, an axially compressed concrete prism immersed into the sodium sulfate solution is regarded as an object to investigate the time-varying stress in concrete subjected to the couplings of axial loading and sulfate attack.
