Purpose - The purpose of this study is to provide managerial implications for retail brand managers. Specifically, current study divide donation type into direct donation(e.g., corporate philanthropy) and indirect donation(cause-related marketing) and investigate the donation type on the purchase intention. Also, this research intends to provide the mechanism between the donation type on the purchase intention by showing the mediating role of the consumers' perceived warmth. Moreover, the moderating role of the brand type(non-luxury vs. luxury brand) between the donation type, the warmth perception, and the purchase intention will be examined. Research design, data, and methodology - A total of 174 undergraduate students from a university in Korea were recruited and were randomly assigned to the conditions of a 2(donation type: indirect vs. direct) X 2 (brand type: non-luxury vs. luxury) between-subjects design. The hypotheses were tested using SPSS 21.0. Two-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were performed. Results - Empirical results showed that the consumers' perceived warmth was higher in the direct donation condition than the indirect donation condition and moreover this influence of the donation type on the perceived warmth was moderated by the brand type. Specifically, the influence of donation type on the perceived warmth was significant only for luxury brand. And there is an interaction effect of donation type and brand type on the purchase intention. More specifically, the purchase intention for luxury brand was higher in the direct donation condition than the indirect donation condition whereas the purchase intention for non-luxury brand was higher in the indirect donation condition than in the direct donation condition. Conclusions - This research contributed to the CSR literature of retail brand management by showing that the influence of the donation type and the brand type on the purchase intention. Moreover, this study enriched CSR literature by introducing Stereotype Content Model and showing the mediating role of the consumers' perceived warmth. Managerially, these results suggested retail brand managers of non-luxury brand and luxury brand how to select an appropriate type of donation and conduct CSR strategies.
With the rapid growth of the mobile application market, mobile donation applications have emerged as a new type of application that enables users to donate without actual payments. To date, limited research has been conducted to provide guidelines on how to design new types of mobile donation applications. Using cause-related marketing theory as theoretical framework, this study aims to identify the features of mobile donation applications that increase the intention of users to use such applications. To achieve this goal, we conducted two experiments. The results of an ANOVA test in the first experiment showed that indirect mobile donation applications (i.e., applications without actual payment) have a stronger positive effect on perceived effectiveness and cause involvement than direct mobile donation applications (i.e., applications with actual payment). In addition, perceived effectiveness and cause involvement yield positive effects on the intention to use mobile donation applications. The results of the second experiment showed that indirect mobile donation applications with utilitarian functions have a greater positive effect on perceived effectiveness and cause involvement than mobile donation applications with hedonic functions. These results contribute to mobile application and donation research as well as provide guidelines for practitioners on the design of mobile donation applications.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test and validate a model to predict living and brain death organ donation intention in nursing students. The conceptual model was based on the theory planned behavior. Methods: Quota sampling methodology was used to recruit 921 nursing students from all over the country and data collection was done from October 1 to December 20, 2013. Results: The model fit indices for the hypothetical model were suitable for the recommended level. Knowledge, attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control explained 40.2% and 40.1% respectively for both living and brain death organ donation intention. Subjective norm was the most direct influential factor for organ donation intention. Knowledge had significant direct effect on attitude and indirect effect on subjective norm and perceived behavioral control. These effects were higher in brain death organ donation intention than in living donation intention. Conclusion: The overall findings of this study suggest the need to develop systematic education programs to increases knowledge about brain death organ donation. The development, application, and evaluation of intervention programs are required to improve subjective norm.
By viewing donors for social welfare organization as both givers and beneficiaries, this study aims to address the correlations between the continuity of donors' contributions and enhanced sense of satisfaction as a consequence of participating in donation activities. The predominant concern of this study centers on: (1) the direct effects of individuals' emotional utility, demonstrable utility, trust toward donee organization, self acceptance on the continuation of their donation; (2) the direct effects of individuals' emotional utility, demonstrable utility, trust toward donee organizations on individuals' self-acceptance; (3) the direct effects of individuals' emotional utility, demonstrable utility on their trust toward a donee organization; (4) the indirect effects of individuals' self acceptance on two paths i.e. emotional utility${\rightarrow}$trust${\rightarrow}$self acceptance, and demonstrable utility${\rightarrow}$trust${\rightarrow}$self acceptance; (5) the indirect effects of individuals' individuals' trust toward donee organization on self acceptance on four paths i.e. emotional utility${\rightarrow}$trust${\rightarrow}$continuity of donation; demonstrable utility${\rightarrow}$trust${\rightarrow}$continuity of donation; emotional utility${\rightarrow}$trust${\rightarrow}$self-acceptance, and demonstrable utility${\rightarrow}$trust${\rightarrow}$self-acceptance; (6) the moderating effects of 'financial status' on the causal relationships in the prescribed structural equation model(SEM). In order to verify the moderating effect of 'financial status', multi-group analysis between each of the two groups were conducted. Research is based on a survey among 1116 donors who had made charitable, monetary contributions to social welfare organizations in Daegu and Kyungpook province. Data was collected from 29 organizations. In order to address the research questions, structural equation were employed. A variety of tests are conducted(metric invariance, critical ratio for difference, structural invariance, multi-group analysis, bias-corrected boot-strapping, latent mean analysis including Cohen's effect test).
In this research, we tried to suggest the guidelines to stakeholder of ICT startup for picking up the excellent startups and nurturing them. We designed the research model focused on the good startup team's knowledge based interaction mechanism. A research model and hypotheses were developed from literature review and empirically validated. The research model consisted relationship among the knowledge sharing (knowledge donation and knowledge collection), absorptive capacity (member's ability and member's motivation), team creativity, and innovation capability. Data were collected from ICT Service Startups, and a partial least squares (PLS) analysis was made on 175 data points. The analysis results showed that absorptive capacity has significant effect on team creativity and innovation capability directly. And also it has indirect effect on the dependent variable through team creativity. On the contrary, knowledge sharing does not have statistically significant effect on team creativity and innovation capability; only have an effect on absorptive capacity. Based on the results, we proposed several team management skills for ICT startup leaders and members, and the guidelines to stakeholder such as government and private investors. Also there are some ideas for startup nurturing polices for government officers. Theoretical contributions are discussed at the end with limitations and further studies.
The study intended to explore not only what are the outcomes of employees' participation in corporate philanthropic activities, such as donation or volunteering, but also how their participation achieves the outcomes. In general, a specific corporate context is likely to lead employees to take part in corporate philanthropy in involuntary or passive ways. With this characteristics, employees' donation or volunteering at a working place has an impact on changes in their attitudes toward corporate social philanthropy and organizational commitment. The study also assumes that the changes in employees' attitudes have a mediate effect on their organizational commitment. The study conducted a survey for about 300 employees working at one of corporations in Seoul Metropolitan area. Based on a structural equation modelling analysis, the results showed that there was an indirect relationship between staffs' participations in corporate philanthropic activities and organizational commitment, which was mediated by employees' assessment and attitudes toward corporate philanthropy. Despite a limitation of the study sample, the study provided both an academic ground to discuss on employees' participation in corporate philanthropy, and a practical ground for corporate leaders to strategically consider how to encourage employees to participate in corporate philanthropic activities and to achieve its goal.
The study aims at verifying the effects of private donors' emotional or demonstrable utility on their mental health with the mediation effect of self-acceptance and the moderation effect of the gratitude for their lives. As a result of causal analysis of the variables by structural equation models, the notable findings are as follows: First, among the group of private donors with increased gratitude for their lives through sponsorship, while emotional utility from donative activity has a positive effect on donor's mental health, demonstrable utility does not have it. The indirect effect of self-acceptance is proved between emotional or demonstrable utilities and mental health. Second, among the donors without increased the gratitude, emotional utility has direct effect on donor's metal health but demonstrable utility does not affect the metal health. While the self-acceptance shows a full mediation effect between demonstrable utility and mental health, emotional utility has no mediation effect. In conclusion, the moderating effect of the gratitude for their lives is empirically proved and the donors who their gratitude for life has increased due to donative activity show better metal health, self-acceptance level, higher emotional and demonstrable utility, therefore, the gratitude for life is a key for metal health through donation.
