The central composite design is widely used for estimating second order response surfaces. This type of design is composed of $2^k$ factorial points, axial points and center points. In this paper, we suggest a version of central composite design where the positions of the axial points are indicated by two numbers, and study properties of this design. We obtain the variances and covariances of the estimators of the regression coefficients. Conditions are obtained for this design to be orthogonal and rotatable. This design is compared with other designs on the basis of efficiency.
An experimental study was performed to explore characteristics of combustion and exhaust emissions in the compression ignition engine of RCCI (reactivity controlled compression ignition) using diesel-gasoline dual fuel. A dual-fuel reactivity controlled compression ignition concepts is demonstrated as a promising method to achieve high thermal efficiency and low emissions. For investigating combustion characteristics, engine experiments were performed in a light-duty diesel engine over a range of SOIs (start of injection) and gasoline percents. The experimental results showed that cases of diesel-gasoline dual fuel combustion is capable of operating over a middle range of engine loads with lower levels of NOx and soot, acceptable pressure rise rate, low ISFC (indicated specific fuel consumption), and high indicated thermal efficiency.
Combustion characteristic, concentration of NOx and exhaust smoke opacity was experimentally tested, according to fuel injection timing, mixing ratio of water and methanol for the driving condition of 2000 rpm of engine revolution and constant load(7.5kg/cm$^{2}$) using emulsified fuel of gas oil-water methanol. The result obtained was as following. Thermal efficiency indicated highly 0.4-2.7% for emulsified fuel then gas oil, and injection timing when maximum thermal efficiency, slicily risen then gas oil. For constant fuel injection timing ignition lag was increased, combustion duration decreased, maximum heat release rate indicated high, and concentration of NOx and exhaust smoke opacity is decreased, as function of water and methanol content y was higher.

The objective of this study is an understanding of the effect of inlet flow angle on the output power performance of a Francis hydraulic turbine, An optimum induced angle at the inlet of the turbine is one of the most important design parameters to have the best performance of the turbine at a given operating condition, In general. rotating speed of the turbine is varied with the change of water mass flowrate in a volute, The induced angle of the inlet water should be properly adjusted to the operating condition to have maximum energy conversion efficiency of the turbine, In this study. a numerical simulation was conducted to have detail understanding of the flow phenomenon in the flow path and output power of the model Francis turbine. The indicated power produced by the model turbine at a given operating condition was found numerically and compared to the brake power of the turbine measured by experiment at KIER. From comparison of two results, turbine efficiency or energy conversion efficiency of the model turbine was estimated. From the study, it was found that the rotating power of the turbine linearly increased with the rotating speed. It means that the higher volume flow rate supplied. the bigger torque on the turbine shaft generated. The maximum brake efficiency of the turbine is around 46$\%$ at 35 degree of induced angle. The difference between numerical and experimental output of the model turbine is defined as mechanical efficiency. The maximum mechanical efficiency of the turbine is around 93$\%$ at 25$\∼$30 degree of induced angle.
This study intends to evaluate the efficiency of non-point source reduction technique by using the porous lightweight and recycled aggregate which microorganism is seeded. In case of infiltration velocity 30~70 mm/hr in high concentration of influent, it is indicated that SS was 40~94%, COD 44~91%, BOD 4~91%, TN 1.2~66%, TP 7~70% of removal efficiency. Removal efficiency is good in infiltration velocity 30 > 50 > 70㎜/hr order. Therefore, the non-point source treatment facility filled with lightweight and recycled aggregate using microbial seeding shows higher removal efficiency than a conventional sand and gravel. We confirm that the function and efficiency are improved significantly and applied to treat non-point sources.
Water deficit is the primary constraint of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] yield, and a physiological understanding of processes affected by water deficit is a key step in identifying and improving drought tolerance in soybean. The objectives of this research were to evaluate biomass and nitrogen accumulation patterns and water use efficiency (WUE) as possible mechanisms associated with the drought tolerance of Jackson. Biomass accumulation of Jackson was contrasted with the PI416937, which also has demonstrated tolerance to drought. For water-deficit treatment, total biomass accumulation was negligible for PI416937, but biomass accumulation continued at approximately 64 % of the well-watered treatment of Jackson. Transpirational losses for Jackson and PI416937 were approximately the same for the water-deficit treatment, indicating that Jackson had superior WUE. Isotopic discrimination of $^{13}$ C relative to $^{12}$ C also indicated that Jackson had higher WUE. Results indicated that increased WUE for Jackson under water deficit showed it was tolerant to drought rather than had an avoidance mechanism.
Objectives: There is no systematic review on economic evaluations of telemedicine in Japan, despite over 1000 trials implemented. Our systematic review aims to examine whether Japan's telemedicine is cost-saving or cost-effective, examine the methodological rigorousness of the economic evaluations, and discuss future studies needed to improve telemedicine's financial sustainability. Methods: We searched five databases, including two Japanese databases, to find peer-reviewed articles published between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2014 in English and Japanese that performed economic evaluations of Japan's telemedicine programs. The methodological rigorousness of the economic analyses was assessed with a well-established checklist. We calculated the benefit-to-cost ratio (BCR) when a reviewed study reported related data but did not report the BCR. All cost values were adjusted to 2014 US dollars. Results: Among the 17 articles identified, six studies reported on settings connecting physicians for specialist consultations, and eleven studies on settings connecting healthcare providers and patients at home. There are three cost-benefit analyses and three cost-minimization analyses. The remaining studies measured the benefit of telemedicine only, using medical expenditure saved or users' willingness-to-pay. There was substantial diversity in the methodological rigorousness. Studies on teledermatology and teleradiology indicated a favorable level of economic efficiency. Studies on telehomecare gave mixed results. One cost-benefit analysis on telehomecare indicated a low economic efficiency, partly due to public subsidy rules, e.g., a too short budget period. Conclusions: Overall, telemedicine programs in Japan were indicated to have a favorable level of economic efficiency. However, the scarcity of the economic literature indicates the need for further rigorous economic evaluation studies.
Purpose: This study addressed the relationship between technological innovation activity and management efficiency of Korean automobile firms. We tested the hypothesis of non-liner relationship of innovation activity in relation to management efficiency. Methods: We discussed prior literature in the firm innovation strategy and management efficiency studies to provide better understanding of relationships between technological innovation activity and management efficiency. As a result, we developed develop and tested a model (Inverted-U shaped) capturing the non-linear impact of technological innovation activity. While we used R&D expenditure and patent registration data for measuring firms' innovation activity, management efficiency was evaluated by using DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis). Results: Main findings of our empirical analysis indicated that the relationships between technological innovation activity and management efficiency was inverted U shaped. This implied that the relationship between technological innovation and management efficiency is inverted U-shaped non-linear, with management efficiency increasing up to a point, beyond which higher levels of R&D and patent registration activities led to a decrease in management efficiency. Conclusion: This study empirically assessed the inconclusive findings of previous research in the area of effects of innovation activities in relation to firm performance. The paper also provided theoretical and practical implications for firms who explore efficient strategy to promote the management performance through technological innovation activities. Future research directions with the limitation of the study was discussed.
The development of a heat exchanger production model based on the microlamination technology and it's economic efficiency is addressed. A microchannel production model is proposed for the high-volume production. The microlamination system is made up of lamina patterning, laminae sorting and laminae bonding. A cost estimation model is developed based on the hewn cycle time and capital equipment costs. An economic efficiency analysis is performed to determine the cost drivers under the different market and product scenarios. The result of the economic efficiency analysis indicated that the device size and the production rate have a great effect on the overall manufacturing cost of microlamination devices. And it can be concluded that the microlamination should focus on bonding larger laminae and reducing both cycle time and warpage.
Electrostatic Precipitator has been widely used to get high efficiency which is required for collection of fine particles. In order to provide collection efficiency and size distribution data for a pilot electrostatic precipitator, a pilot study has been conducted on fly ash from pulverized coal burning apparatus. The aims of this study are to investigate characteristics of electric charge, to measure collection efficiency varied with the applied voltage, to get an optimum current and current density. Optimum current density was obtained to 0.7mA/$cm^2$ at the average electric field strength 2.33kV/cm in this experiment. Maximum particle collection efficiency was indicated 99.21% at the applied voltage 7kV. Finally, particle size distribution is also compared with photographic results. Both coarse and fine particles at the range of 0.5$\sim$2$\mu$m and 3$\sim$10 SEM $\mu$m were clearly removed by increasing applied voltage.
