FBG를 이용한 고온 측정 센서의 온도특성 (Thermal characteristics of high-temperature measurement sensor using fiber Bragg grating)

  • In this paper, we present thermal characteristics of high-temperature measurement sensor using fiber Bragg grating(FBG), including peak reflectivity, FWHM bandwidth and various normalized refractive index change along temperature variation. The temperature stability of FBG temperature sensor can be changed by varying the refractive index change and grating length. The proposed FBG temperature sensor can measure up to about $600^{\circ}C$ and 1000 hours of heating time.

  • In this work, we report on the characterization of six low-$T_g$ poly[methyl-3-(9-carbazolyl) propylsiloxane] based photorefractive (PR) composites sensitized with poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) in different concentrations, ranging from 0.2 to 1 wt %. At 632.8 nm, photoconductivity, space charge field, refractive index modulation, and grating buildup time were measured versus external electric field. The photoconductivity was strongly dependent on the visible light absorption and mobility. The magnitude of space charge field was affected by the conductivity contrast $\sigma_{ph}/(\sigma_{ph}+\sigma_d)$. The refractive index modulation increased with the magnitude of space charge field and the PR grating buildup speed increased with the photoconductivity.

고속 통신용 DFB 레이저의 빔 분포 해석 (Beam Profile Analysis of DFB Laser for High Speed Communications)

  • 본 연구에서는 무반사 코팅을 하지 않은, 두 개의 거울 면을 갖는 1.55um 파장용 DFB(Distributed Feedback) 레이저에서 굴절률 격자와 이득 격자가 동시에 존재할 때, 해석 프로그램을 개발하여 종 방향으로 발진 모드의 빔 분포를 해석하였다. 굴절률 격자와 이득 격자가 거울 면에서 갖는 위상 값의 변화에 따라서, δL<0인 경우에 대하여, DFB 레이저의 발진 모드에 대한 발진 이득, 빔 분포 |R(z)|와 |S(z)|, 그리고 방사전력비 Pl/Pr를 비교 분석하였다. 거울 면에서의 격자 위상 값에 관계없이 발진 모드의 문턱 전류를 낮추고 주파수 안정성을 높이기 위해서는, κL이 8보다 커야한다.

  • 본 연구에서는 측면연마 된 광섬유 브래그 격자를 측면 연마하고 폴리머 상부층(overlay)를 형성시켜 외부 굴절률과 온도를 동시 측정할 수 있는 광섬유 센서 소자를 제안하였다. 외부굴절률 변화에 민감하지 않는 광섬유 브래그 격자를 이용하여 온도를 측정하고 격자를 측면 연마한 후 폴리머 코팅에 의해 소산장 결합을 유도하여 외부 굴절률 변화를 측정하게 된다. 측면 연마된 광섬유 브래그 격자의 온도 민감도는 0.01 nm/oC로 측정되었고 폴리머 상부층의 온도 민감도는 -0.58 nm/oC로 측정되었고 선형구간 별(1.33-1.39, 1.39-1.42, 1.42-1.44) 굴절률 민감도는 498.8 nm/RIU, 694.9 nm/RIU, 1312 nm/RIU로 측정되었다.

Theoretical Study for the ITO/Si based High Contrast Grating Structure with Focusing Capability and its Fabrication

  • High contrast grating (HCG) is the structure made up of the sub-wavelength grating of high-index and the surrounding layer of low-index, which reveals high contrast between two materials. Its advantages include high reflectivity over a broad bandwidth, polarization and wavelength selectivity, optical high-Q resonator, and phase modulation. In this work, the HCG structure comprising of indium tin oxide (ITO) and Silicon (Si), for the surrounding layer and the grating layer respectively, was studied. Its theoretical model was established, and transmittance, phase and optical behavior were calculated by rigorous coupled-wave analysis and finite element method. Furthermore, the established structure was fabricated to validate its feasibility. The fabricated structure shows the focusing capability whose length is about $10{\mu}m$, and the feasibility of the structure was demonstrated. It is also meaningful that ITO layer can contribute to the fabrication of the HCG structure, leading to enable the structure to be electrical-driven.

Polymeric Waveguides with Bragg Gratings in the Middle of the Core Layer

  • In this paper we proposed a new Bragg grating waveguide in order to improve reflectivity and to achieve compactness. Bragg gratings with various thicknesses were engraved in the middle of the core layer with a length of 3 mm. For the sake of cost-effectiveness, the $3^{rd}$ order Bragg grating waveguides were fabricated via conventional photolithography. The maximum reflectivities for the fixed width waveguide of $6{\mu}m$ with the 0.1 and $0.3{\mu}m$-thick Bragg gratings were, -13.14 and -6.25 dB, respectively, and the Bragg wavelengths were 1562.28, 1564.10 nm, respectively. A slight increase in the Bragg grating thickness can result in a remarkable reduction in the length of the Bragg grating waveguide with a fixed reflectivity.

  • In this paper, we present high-temperature characteristics of tunable all-optic filter using fiber Bragg grating(FBG), including peak reflectivity, FWHM bandwidth, refractive index change along temperature variation. The characteristics of a FBG tunable filter with refractive index change is affected by its thermal stability.

Sensing Characteristics of Uncoated Double Cladding Long-period Fiber Grating Based on Mode Transition and Dual-peak Resonance

  • In this paper, the sensing characteristics of a double cladding fiber (DCF) long-period fiber grating (LPFG) to the surrounding refractive index (SRI) are studied. The outer cladding of the DCF plays the role of the overlay, thus, the mode transition (MT) phenomenon of DCF can be induced by etching the outer cladding radius instead of coating overlays. The response characteristics of the effective refractive index (ERI) of the cladding mode to the outer cladding radius are analyzed. It is found that in the MT range, the change rate of ERIs of cladding modes is relatively larger than that for other ranges. Further, based on the features of the mode transition region (MTR), the phase-matching curve of the 11th cladding mode is investigated, and the response of the DCF-LPFG to the SRI is characterized by the change of wavelength intervals between the dual peaks under different outer cladding radii. The numerical simulation results show that the SRI sensitivity is greatly improved, which is available to 3484.0 nm/RIU with the fitting degree 0.998 in the SRI range of 1.33-1.37. The proposed DCF-LPFG can provide new theoretical support for designing the DCF-LPFG refractive index sensor with excellent performances of sensitivity, linearity and structure.

AR 코팅된 DFB 레이저에서 격자 위상의 영향 (Effect of Grating Phase in DFB Lasers with an Anti-reflection Coated Mirror)

  • 본 연구에서는 1.55um의 파장을 갖는 DFB 레이저에서 굴절률 격자와 이득 격자가 동시에 존재할 때, 오른쪽 거울 면에 반사가 일어나지 않도록 유전막 코팅을 하여 𝜌r=0 이 되도록 하였다. 𝛿L>0인 경우일 때, 발진 모드에 대하여, 발진 주파수와 발진 이득의 특성을 해석했다. 좌측 거울면의 격자 위상이 𝜋에서부터 𝜋/2 계속 감소할 때, 각 모드의 그래프 선들이 좌측으로 조금씩 이동한다. 발진 모드의 문턱 이득이 가장 낮은 경우는 𝜅L=10인 경우이고, 이때 모드 선별성은 상대적으로 낮다. 모드 선별성이 우수한 경우는 𝜅L=0.5에서부터 𝜅L=6 정도까지이고, 이 경우 주파수 안정성이 우수하다. 두 개의 벽개면을 갖는 경우와 비교하면, 한 개의 무반사면을 갖는 경우, 발진 모드의 문턱 이득이 증가하지만 모드 선별성은 2배 정도 더 우수해 진다.
