A power plant's heat exchangers work under poor conditions, such as high temperature, high pressure, corrosion, mechanical stress and vibration. Especially, partial joint-weld of heat exchanger's header to stub-tube is the place where incomplete penetration flaws can easily occur. But, it is hard to evaluate the safety of the structure by conventional nondestructive testing techniques. So it is necessary to test integrity of the weld inside and to develop testing technique and equipment that can detect the flaws at the weld point in order to enhance reliability of the test result. In this study, we developed a suitable automated ultrasonic testing system that can inspect the partial joint-weld of header to stub-tube of power plant. Finally, we showed the efficiency of the automated ultrasonic-testing-system from the application.

This research is a phenomenological case study to find about the process of becoming alcohol dependence among women, with a lifetime contextual point of view. The first phenomenon which participants experience within their lifetime was 'incomplete relationship'. This was a trigger to become alcohol dependence. The researchers whom participated in this research focused on the first alcohol intake. The first drink has been given a unique meaning as 'characteristic symbol system'. While the participants were choosing alcohol, dailiness, a continuum of daily life emerged. With dailiness aspect, alcohol dependence goes through a process of 'invasion or penetration'. Through these processes alcohol dependent experience among women became 'meaninglessness and mirage'. According to these results undertone to approach women alcohol dependence was able to be deducted.

Failure analysis on the welded type 304 pipe used for cooling water piping in the district heating primary side was conducted. Inorganic elements and bacteria in the cooling water and in corrosion products were analyzed, and the weldment was inspected by microscopy and a sensitization test. Corrosion damages were observed in the heat-affected zone, on weld defects such as incomplete fusion or excessive penetration caused by improper welding, or/and at the 6 o'clock position along the pipe axial direction. However, the level of concentration of chloride in the cooling water as low as 80 ppm has been reported to be not enough for even a sensitized type 304 steel, meaning that the additional corrosive factor was required for these corrosion damages. The factor leading to these corrosion damages was drawn to be the metabolisms of the types of bacteria, which is proved by the detection of proton, sulfur containing species, biofilms, and both bacteria and corrosion product analyses.
