  • The Ogcheon Au-Ag deposit consists of two quartz veins that fill the NE or NW-trending fissures in the metasedimentary rocks of unknown age. The quartz veins occur mainly in the massive type with partially breccia and cavity. They can be found along the strike for about minimum 50 m and varied in thickness from 0.1 to 0.3 m. The mineralogy of quartz veins from the Ogcheon deposit is mainly composed of hydrothermal alteration minerals such as pyrite, quartz, sericite, chlorite, clay minerals and sulfides including pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite and galena. Fluid inclusion data from quartz indicate that homogenization temperatures and salinity of mineralization range from 184 to $362^{\circ}C$ and from 0.0 to 6.6 wt.% eq. NaCl, respectively. These suggest that ore forming fluids were progressively cooled and diluted from mixing with meteoric water. Sulfur(${\delta}^{34}S$: 0.4~8.4‰) isotope composition indicates that ore sulfur was derived from mainly magmatic source although there is a partial derivation from the host rocks. The calculated oxygen(${\delta}^{18}O$: 4.9~12.1‰) and hydrogen(${\delta}D$: -92~-74‰) isotope compositions suggest that magmatic and meteoric ore fluids were equally important for the formation of the Ogcheon deposit and then overlapped to some degree with another type of meteoric water during mineralization.

  • The Geopung Cu deposit consists of two subparallel quartz veins that till the NE-trending fissures in Triassic Cheongsan granite. The quartz veins occur mainly massive with partially cavity and breccia. They can be followed along strike for about 500 m and varies in thickness from 0.2 to 2.2 m. Based on the mineralogy and paragenesis of veins, mineralization of quartz veins can be divided into hypogene and supergene stages. Hypogene stage is associated with hydrothermal alteration minerals such as sericite, pyrite, quartz, chlorite, clay minerals and sulfides such as pyrite, arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, marcasite, sphalerite, stannite, chalcopyrite and galena. Supergene stage is composed of geothite. Fluid inclusion data from quartz indicate that homogenization temperatures and salinity of hypogene stage range from 163 to $356^{\circ}C$ and from 0.2 to 7.2 wt.% eq. NaCl, respectively. They suggest that ore forming fluids were progressively cooled and diluted from mixing with meteoric water. Sulfur (${\delta}^{34}S$: 4.3~9.2‰) isotope composition indicates that ore sulfur was derived from mainly magmatic source although there is a partial derivation from the host rocks. The calculated oxygen (${\delta}^{18}O$: 0.9~4.0‰) and hydrogen (${\delta}D$: -86~-69‰) isotope compositions suggest that magmatic and meteoric ore fluids were equally important for the formation of the Geopung Cu deposit and then overlapped to some degree with another type of meteoric water during mineralization.

  • In this paper, effect of steel fiber inclusion, compressive strength of matrix, shear reinforcement and shear span to depth ratio on the flexural behavior of UHPFRC(Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete) were investigated with test of 10-UHPFRC beam specimens. All test specimens were subjected to the flexural static loading. It was shown that steel fiber significantly improve the shear strength of UHPFRC beams. 2% volume fraction of steel fiber change the mode of failure from shear failure to flexural failure and delayed the failure of compressive strut with comparatively short shear span to depth ratio. UHPFRC beams without steel fiber had a 45-degree crack angle and fiber reinforced one had lower crack angle. Shear reinforcement contribution on shear strength of beams can be calculated by 45-degree truss model with acceptable conservatism. Using test results, French and Korean UHPFRC design recommendations were evaluated. French recommendation have shown conservative results on flexural behavior but Korean recommendation have shown overestimation for flexural strength. Both recommendations have shown the conservatism on the flexural ductility and shear strength either.

  • Background: Previous studies have generated conflicting evidence regarding associations between family history and survival after gastric cancer surgery. In this study, we investigated this question using a meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: To identify relevant studies, PubMed and Embase databases were searched up to June 2013. Two reviewers independently assessed search results and data extraction of included studies. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for overall survival (OS) were calculated based on fixed- or random-effects models. Homogeneity of effects across studies was assessed using $x^2$ test statistics and quantified by $I^2$. Results: A total of five studies were selected according to the inclusion criteria. The total number of patients included was 2,030, which ranged from 145 to 598 per study. There was no significant difference in OS by family history of cancer (HR=0.83, 95%CIs=0.50-1.38), but subgroup analysis of patients with a first-degree family history of cancer (HR=0.74, 95%CIs=0.60-0.93) and gastric cancer family history (HR=0.56, 95%CIs=0.41-0.76) tended to show better OS in these patients. Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests that a first-degree family history of cancer or gastric cancer family history is associated with better survival of gastric cancer patients after surgery, after a systematic review of five previous studies. These results can be applied by clinicians when counselling patients regarding their risk of death from gastric cancer. Further study is needed to investigate the underlying mechanism between family history and survival in gastric cancer patients.

  • This paper has studied the monetary policy in Korea with a time varying VAR model using four key macroeconomic variables. First, inclusion of the exchange rate was a crucial factor in evaluating Korean monetary policy since the monetary policy demonstrated sensitivity to exchange rate movements during the crisis periods of both the Asian financial crisis of 1997 and the global financial crisis of 2008. Second, a specification of the stochastic volatilities in TVP-VAR model is important in explaining excessive movements of all variables in the sample. The overall moderation of variables in 2000s was more or less due to a reduction of the stochastic volatilities but also somewhat due to the macroeconomic fundamental structures captured by impulse response functons. Third, the degree of the monetary policy effectiveness of inflation was mitigated in recent periods but with increased persistence. Lastly, the monetary policy stance towards inflation stabilization has advanced ever since the inflation targeting scheme was adopted. However, there still seems to be a room for improvement in this aspect since the degree of the monetary policy stance towards inflation stabilization was relatively weaker than to output stabilization.

  • Highly conductive polyaniline(PAn)-nylon 6 composite fabric was prepared by immersing the nylon 6 fabric in 0.5M aniline+0.35M HCl aqueous solution at 4$0^{\circ}C$ for 2hours, Polymerization was then followed by mixing the prepared oxidant and dopant solution(0.5M(NH4)2S2O+0.35M HCl) to the diffusion bath at 5$^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. The conductivity of prepared PAn-nylon 6 composite fabrics reached as high as 0.5$\times$10-1S/cm. Their conductivity were significantly affected by the aniline and oxidant concentration. As compared to those of nylon 6 fabric heat of fusion melting point the degree of crystallinity and tensile strength of PAn-nylon 6 did not significantly changed by inclusion of PAn. In the aspect of serviceability wheras the fabric conductivity was significantly decreased after multiple washion no significant changes in the fabric conductivity were observed after abrading the composite fabric over 50 cycles. However we found that the fabric conductivity could be recovered by acid re-doping with HCl.

  • A simplified model for predicting microsegregation during columnar-dendritic solidification of binary alloys is developed, in which back diffusion, dendrite arm coarsening and dendrite tip undercooling are simultaneously incorporated. The inclusion of tip undercooling is accomplished by modifying the initial conditions of the existing solute diffusion model, in such forms that tip undercooling depresses the beginning of solidification below the liquidus temperature, and that the secondary arm spacing evolves in accordance with the minimum undercooling theory. Sample calculations for the well-known benchmark system show that the present predictions not only consist with the extablished limiting cases, but also agree favorably with the available experimental data within a reasonable tolerance. In particular, a typical decreasing trend in the eutectic fraction at high cooling rates is successfully resolved. Comparison of the individual and combined effects of characteristic parameters in reference with the limiting cases reveals the interactions among parameters. Every parameter plays the role of reducing the eutectic fraction, and the degree of influence depends primarily on the cooling rate. Coarsening enhances the effect of tip undercooling, while suppressing that of back diffusion. A vigorous back diffusion seems to restrain the apperance of the undercooling effect. Overall, each contribution of the three parameters to microsegregation is estimated to be of the same order, which suffices to justify the present study.

  • KTP(KTiOPO4) single crystals were grown by the TSSG(top seeded solution growth) method using the Ksp401s flux. A heat-pipe based growing furnace was used, and the temperature stability and the homogenity of the growing solution in the platinum crucible were within the level of It 0.5℃ and ±0.9℃, respectively. The effects of some operating variables such as operating temperature range, initial cooling rate, forced stirring, reuse of the flux were investigated. As the initial cooling rate was decreased to the degree of 0.1℃/hr and some proper stirring effect by the crystal rotation was introduced to the present experimental condition, bigger and better crystals without inclusion grew. A single crystal with the maximum sixte of 44 ×39 ×17mm3 was obtained and showed the SHG conversion efficiency of 21.39) even without the anti-refilection coating.

  • The present paper presents a genetic algorithm (GA) to maximize social welfare and perform congestion management by optimally placing and sizing one Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) device in a double-sided auction market. Simulation results, with line flow constraints before and after the compensation, are compared through the Sequential Quadratic Programming SQP method, and are used to analyze the effect of TCSC on the congestion levels of modified IEEE 14-bus and 30-bus test systems. Quadratic, smooth and nonsmooth (with sine components due to valve point loading effect) generator cost curves, and quadratic smooth consumer benefit functions are considered. The main aims of the present study are the inclusion of customer benefit in the social welfare maximization and congestion management objective function, the consideration of nonsmooth generator characteristics, and the optimal locating and sizing of the TCSC using real code-based GA to guarantee fast convergence to the best solution.
