  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze affecting ratios of strength safety in carbon fiber layer thickness of a composite fuel tank for FEV vehicles. To investigate affecting ratios by FEM modeling, the equivalent von Mises stress has been computed on the aluminum liner and carbon fiber layers of composite fuel tanks in hoop and helical directions respectively. According to the FEM results, the affecting ratios of an aluminum liner on the equivalent stress are 77.5% in hoop direction, 18.11% in $70^{\circ}C$ winded helical direction and 4.39% in $12^{\circ}C$ winded helical direction. These trends on the strength safety of carbon fiber layers have been shown as those of an aluminum liner even though the layer thickness ratio of $12^{\circ}C$ inclined carbon fiber is very high of 42% compared with that of hoop layer thickness. Thus, the computed results show that the strength safety of a carbon fiber fuel tank is more influenced by the winding angle rather than the fiber thickness of carbon fiber layers.

  • Recognizing license plate from its traffic camera captured images is one of the most important aspects in many traffic management systems. Despite many sophisticated license plate recognition related algorithms available online, license plate recognition is still a hot research issue because license plates in each country all round the world lack of uniform format and their camera captured images are often affected by multiple adverse factors, such as low resolution, poor illumination effects, installation problem etc. A novel method is proposed in this paper to solve the inclination problem of license plates in their camera captured images through four parts: Firstly, special edge pixels of license plate are chosen to represent main information of license plates. Secondly, least square methods are used to compute the inclined angle of license plates. Then, coordinate rotation methods are used to rotate the license plate. At last, bilinear interpolation methods are used to improve the performance of license plate rotation. Several experimental results demonstrated that our proposed method can solve the inclination problem about license plate in visual aspect and can improve the recognition rate when used as the image preprocessing method.

  • In this study, a 3D simulation program was used to produce a bodice prototype of a middle-aged male in their 40s and 50s and then analyze the appearance evaluation and airgap, sectional view, color distribution through virtual wearing to compare and analyze the differences between patterns. Through this, it was intended to provide basic data necessary for pattern development to companies that manufacture and produce clothing for middle-aged men. As a result of analyzing, J pattern was analyzed as the most suitable body shape pattern for middle-aged men. E pattern was too tight and L pattern and N pattern had too much spaces. However, J patternt was analyzed that correction was necessary in setting center back and center front length. The aging phenomenon in which the back is slightly bent forward and shoulders are also inclined is expected to appear, so it is necessary to adjust the front-to-back length, shoulder angle, and shoulder length. It is considered that after developing the research pattern by modifying J pattern, it is necessary to develop a body shape prototype for middle-aged men through actual clothing experiments on middle-aged men.

  • This paper deals with optimal mooring system to secure fish cage in a desired location, Through field investigation and paper works, we surveyed disasters by breakdown of cage frame and mooring system due to higher wave attack and selected compliant buoy mooring method for shallow water mooring system against severe coastal external forces. To analyze interaction between external forces and compliant buoy mooring system, theoretical model has developed as quasi-static nonlinear analysis. After verifying the feasibility of the numerical model compared with experiment, static analysis has tried for various mooring systems with different angle of array, number of mooring points, length of horizontal and inclined rope. Optimal mooring method using compliant buoy has selected for fish cage through numerical simulation. This results can apply for preliminary design for cage mooring system.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the growth changes of the mandible and associated structure in response to postural hyperpropulsion and changes after removal of postural hyperpropulsor. The experimental animals were four-week-old Sprague-Dawley males rats. The animals were worn the postural hyperpropulsor diurnally for 10 hours per day. The animals were sacrified after 1-week, 2-week, 4-week postural hyperpropulsion and 4-week postural hyperpropulsion 4-week removal period. The growth changes of rat mandible and associated structures following postural hyperpropulsion on the growing rat mandible were observed biometrically, radiographically and histologically. The finding were as follows. 1. The angle between the chief axis of the bone trabeculae in the condyle and the mandibular plane of rats observed for 4 weeks after worn the hyperpropulsor for 4 weeks was directed posteriorly as compared with that of control rats. 2. The ratio of mandibular length to maxillary length of experimental rats was higher than that of control rats. 3. The tooth axis of mandibular first molar of rats worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 4 weeks was mesially inclined as compared with control rats. 4. Histologically, the cartilage layer at the superior region of the condyle of rats worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 2 weeks appeared thicker than that of same aged normal rats, and generalized increase of the cartilage layer was shown on the condyle of rats worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 4 weeks. 5. There was no significant histologic difference between rats observed for 4 weeks after worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 4 weeks (8 week experimental rats) and same aged normal rats. 6. The newly formed bone at anterior region of articular fossa of rats worn the postural hyperpropulsor for 2 weeks and 4 weeks was thicker than that of same aged normal rats.

  • A new prediction model is derived for the uplift capacity of suction caissons using a hybrid method coupling genetic programming (GP) and simulated annealing (SA), called GP/SA. The predictor variables included in the analysis are the aspect ratio of caisson, shear strength of clayey soil, load point of application, load inclination angle, soil permeability, and loading rate. The proposed model is developed based on well established and widely dispersed experimental results gathered from the literature. To verify the applicability of the proposed model, it is employed to estimate the uplift capacity of parts of the test results that are not included in the modeling process. Traditional GP and multiple regression analyses are performed to benchmark the derived model. The external validation of the GP/SA and GP models was further verified using several statistical criteria recommended by researchers. Contributions of the parameters affecting the uplift capacity are evaluated through a sensitivity analysis. A subsequent parametric analysis is carried out and the obtained trends are confirmed with some previous studies. Based on the results, the GP/SA-based solution is effectively capable of estimating the horizontal, vertical and inclined uplift capacity of suction caissons. Furthermore, the GP/SA model provides a better prediction performance than the GP, regression and different models found in the literature. The proposed simplified formulation can reliably be employed for the pre-design of suction caissons. It may be also used as a quick check on solutions developed by more time consuming and in-depth deterministic analyses.

  • The paper concerns with the method and results of wind tunnel investigations of the Strouhal number (St) of a stationary iced cable model of cable-supported bridges with respect to different angles of wind attack. The investigations were conducted in the Climatic Wind Tunnel Laboratory of the Czech Academy of Sciences in $Tel{\check{c}}$. The methodology leading to the experimental icing of the inclined cable model was prepared in a climatic section of the laboratory. The shape of the ice on the cable was registered by a photogrammetry method. A section of an iced cable model with a smaller scale was reproduced with a 3D printing procedure for subsequent aerodynamic investigations. The St values were determined within the range of the Reynolds number (Re) between $2.4{\cdot}10^4$ and $16.5{\cdot}10^4$, based on the dominant vortex shedding frequencies measured in the wake of the model. The model was oriented at three principal angles of wind attack for each of selected Re values. The flow regimes were distinguished for each model configuration. In order to recognize the tunnel blockage effect the St of a circular smooth cylinder was also tested. Good agreement with the reported values in the subcritical Re range of a circular cylinder was obtained. The knowledge of the flow regimes of the airflow around an iced cable and the associated St values could constitute a basis to formulate a mathematical description of the vortex-induced force acting on the iced cable of a cable-supported bridge and could allow predicting the cable response due to the vortex excitation phenomenon.

  • In present study, we suggested the quasi-linear model that linearizes the quadratic drag representing the energy loss across the porous plate. The quasi-linear model was solved by Boundary Element Method (BEM) for development of the porous wave absorber suitable for 2-D wave tank. The drag coefficient at the porous plate was newly obtained through comparison of experimental results. It is found that the porous wave absorber with porosity 0.1, submergence depth d/h = 0.1, and inclined angle $10^{\circ}{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}20^{\circ}$ shows the effective wave absorption. Using the developed quasi-linear numerical model, the optimal design of various types of a porous wave absorber will be applied.

  • This study examined the mounting status of cigar lighter receptacles for vehicles and analyzed the tracking phenomenon that occurs when foreign material entered a cigar lighter receptacle to obtain data for the analysis of accident investigation. Regardless of the vehicle's output, cigar lighter receptacles are mounted in a vehicle horizontally, vertically, or at tilting or inclined angle. The tilting type cigar lighter receptacle is much easier to use but current leakage resulting from foreign materials (coffee, beverages, water, etc.) falling into the cigar lighter receptacle may cause a fire to start. This study used a vehicle battery (DC 12V) as a power supply for the tracking test and configured its circuit in the same way as that of an electrical device in a vehicle. The tracking phenomenon that occurred in the standby mode of the vehicle exhibited a fine flame and an irregular occurrence of smoke. While this tracking phenomenon was occurring, the leakage current and the reaching distance of the flame were measured to be approximately 930mA and $20{\sim}50cm$, respectively. It is thought that the resultant flame may ignite toluene, dust, cigarettes, etc. It was observed that as the tracking progressed, the internal metal socket melted and a hole was created, the surface of which was also severely carbonized. In addition, the electrical resistance of the carbonized conductive path was measured to be approximately $30{\Omega}$. It is thought that this much resistance may cause local heating when leakage current flows and could ignite any nearby flammable material.

  • This paper presents the stress and deformation characteristics of $9\%$ nickel based inner tank bottom plate in full containment LNG storage tank. When a . maximum hydrostatic pressure applies the bottom plate of inner tank, the maximum = f stress and displacement distributions of the bottom plate have been analyzed as ' functions of inclined angle of the bottom plate, and the thickness and length of the annular plate between the shell plate and bottom one. The calculated results indicate that the taper of the bottom plate is recommended by 100${\~}$200 : 1 for $140,000m^3$ storage capacity of the inner tank. The results recommend that the thickness of the annular plate is around 20mm and the length is greater than 3m for a maximum hydrostatic pressure of $140,000m^3$ tank capacity.
