The experiment of rip current at successive ends of breaking wave crests was conducted in a laboratory wave basin, and its time-varying evolution according to incident wave durations was observed by using ortho-rectified images. The experiment utilized the generation of a quasi nodal line of the honeycomb-pattern waves (i.e., intersecting wave trains) formed by out-of-phase motion of two piston-type wave makers arranged in the transverse direction, instead of the original honeycomb pattern waves which are generated when two wave trains propagate with slightly different wave directions. The particle moving distance and velocity caused by the rip current were measured by using the particle tracking technique. As a result, the rip current was survived for a while even without incident waves after its generation due to several successive ends of wave crests, and it moved the particles further out to sea.
To understand the cause of the high light transmittance of the human eye, the optical effects of the collagen fibers of the stroma layer, which constitute the majority of the cornea, were analyzed. These collagen fibers, approximately 20 nm in diameter, have a regular arrangement. Accordingly, the optical properties of the collagen fibers and the fiber layer were analyzed by simulation. A standing wave was formed in the incident space by the overlapping incident light and the light reflected by the plate. In addition, it was confirmed that when the collagen fibers are arranged in a layer, the light transmittance periodically changes, depending on the number of fiber layers. The standing wave was formed in the incident space, and the light's intensity distribution was changed by the nanoscale collagen fibers in the section with the collagen layer, which affected the transmittance. To explain this phenomenon, the collagen fiber was defined as a second light source, and an attempt was made to describe the simulation results in terms of overlap of the incident light with the light emitted from the collagen fiber.
Under the effects of the near-field earthquakes, the incident angle of the incoming wave could be different. In this study, the influences of some parameters such as incident angle, basin edge, peak ground acceleration level of the bedrock motion as well as different clay types with different consistency on the amplification behavior of the shallow basins are investigated. To attain this goal, the numerical analyses of the basins filled with three different clay types are performed using a fully nonlinear method. The two dimensional models of the basins are subjected to a set of strong ground motions with different peak ground acceleration levels and three different incident angles of 30◦, 45◦ and 90◦ with respect to the horizontal axes. The results show the dominant effect of the obliquely subjected waves at most cases. The higher effect of the 45◦ incident angle on the basin response was concluded. In the other part of this study, the spectral amplification curves of the surface points were compared. It was seen that the maximum spectral amplification of different surface points occurs at different periods. Also, it is affected by the increase in the peak acceleration level of the incoming motions.

This study investigates the characteristics of stem waves along a vertical wall generated by obliquely incident monochromatic waves through laboratory experiments conducted in a wave basin and numerical simulations using parabolic approximation equations. The investigation is focused on the nonlinear effect of incident waves on the propagation characteristics of stem waves. Numerical results are compared with laboratory measurements and good agreements are obtained. The main results of this study show that the normalized stem wave height along the wall decreases and the stem width increases as the angle of incident waves decreases or the nonlinearity of the incident waves increases.

The present study addresses the distortion of the compression wave reflected from an open end of a shock tube. An experiment is carried out using the simple shock tube with an open end Computational work is also performed to represent the experimented flows. The second-order Total Variation Diminishing scheme is employed to numerically solve the unsteady, axisy-mmetric, inviscid, compressible governing equations. Both the experimented and predicted results are in good agreement. The generation and development mechanisms of the compression wave, which Is reflected from the open end of the shock tube, are obtained in detail from the present computations. The effect of size of the baffle plate at the open-end that causes the reflection of the incident expansion wave is found negligible. A good correlation is obtained for transition of the reflected compression wave to a shock wave inside the tube. The present data show that for a given wave length of the incident expansion wave the transition of the reflected compression wave to a shock wave can be predicted with good accuracy.

To simulate a complicated hydrodynamic phenomena in the surf zone, the SWASH model is used in Haeundae Beach. The SWASH model is well known as a model competing with the Boussinesq-type model in terms of near shore waves and wave-induced currents modelling. This study is aimed to the detailed analysis of seasonal waves and wave-induced current simulation in Haeundae Beach, where the representative seasonal wave conditions was obtained from hourly measured wave data in 2014 by Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Administration( KHOA). Incident wave conditions were given as irregular waves by JONSWAP spectrum. The calculated seasonal wave-induced current patterns were compared with the field observation data. In summer season, a dominant longshore current toward the east of the beach appears due to the effect of incident waves from the South and the bottom bathymetry, then some rip currents occurs at the central part of the beach. In the winter season, ESE incident waves generates a strong westward longshore currents. However, a weak eastward longshore currents appears at the restricted east side areas of the beach.

In this paper, the analytical model to understand the propagation of electromagnetic waves in the foam core sandwich structures was proposed. Using the analytical model, efforts were made to find the optimal stacking sequence of composite skins for maximum transmittance of electromagnetic wave. Numerical analyses of unidirectional composites and foam as a function of incident angle were performed. From the results of analysis, the general tendencies of transmittance of electromagnetic wave through composites and foam were obtained. Based on the general tendencies, optimal stacking sequences of composite skins for the maximum transmittance of electromagnetic wave were found with certain ranges of incident angle using genetic algorithm(GA).
Numerical simulation is made of the three-dimensional wave breaking motion about a part of a floating offshore structure containing a circular cylinder mounted vertically onto a lower hull in regular periodic gravity wave generated by a numerical wave maker. TUMMAC-VIII finite-difference method is newly developed for such a problem. By use of density-function technique the three-dimensional wave breaking motion is approximately implenented in the framework of rectangular grid system. A porosity technique is devised for the implementation of the no-slip bydy boundary conditions. The generation of breaking waves by the interaction of incident waves with the structure is well simulated and interesting features of breaking waves are revealed with containing degree of quantitative and qualitative accuracy.

The present study describes a computational work to investigate detailed behaviors of the twin shock waves discharged from the exits of two-parallel ducts. In computations, the Yee-Roe-Davis's TVD scheme was used to solve the unsteady, three-dimensional, inviscid, compressible, Euler equations. The distance between two ducts is varied and the Mach number of the incident shock wave is changed below 2.0. The results obtained show that on the symmetric axis between two-parallel ducts, the maximum pressure achieved by the merge of twin shock waves and its location strongly depend upon the distance between two-parallel ducts and the Mach number of the incident shock wave. It is also found that the twin shock waves discharged from the exits of two-parallel ducts leads to the complicated flow fields, such as Mach stem, spherical waves, and vertical structures.
The equilibrium beach profiles with the effects of random waves and nonuniform grain size in the surf zone are derived from the Thornton and Guza(1983)'s energy dissipation model. The derived beach profiles are the functions of the breaking wave strength, the frequency of the incident wave, and the wave induced-energy dissipation at breaking point. It is not confirmed that the equilibrium beach profiles are better agreement with the measured profiles than the classical profiles. However, the characteristic of the changes of the beach profiles with respect to the breaking wave stgrngth and the frequency of the incident wave can be analyzed which has not been studied by the classical model.
