  • In this paper, a novel particle swarm optimization method based on IE3D is used to design a mobile communication Microstrip Patch Antenna. The aim of the thesis is to Design and fabricate an inset fed rectangular Microstrip Antenna and study the effect of antenna dimensions Length (L), Width (W) and substrate parameters relative Dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}r$), substrate thickness on Radiation parameters of Band width. When the antenna was designed, a dual-band, dual-polarized antenna was used to secure the bandwidth and improve performance, and a coaxial probe feeding method so that the phased array of antenna is easy.

  • This paper will show how self-alarming EAS(Electronic Article Surveillance) system can improve its receiving performance of magnetic field signal and reduce false alarm using dual-band wireless communication. Our research improved the receiving performance and the areas of recognition of magnetic signal through the change of VLF receiving circuit and alarm transmitting method. In addition, we verified the reduction of false alarm by improvement of integrity and distance between tag and receiver through experiment. Thanks to our research, we can build the high performance and economical EAS with low false alarm on the multi gate store.

Wide Bandwidth Circularly Polarized Aperture Coupled Microstrip Antenna using Cross-slot (십자 슬롯을 이용한 광대역 원형편파 적층 개구결합 마이크로스트립 안테나)

  • A novel single feed wide band CP stacked microstrip antenna using crossed slots has been designed, fabricated and measured. For the single rediating element the designed 10dB return loss bandwidth is 34.5%99.45~13.54 GHz), 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 18.7%(11.17~13.39GHz), and 6 dB gain bandwidth is 29%(10.21~13.64GHz). For the 2$\times$2 array designed using a sequential rotation method, the 10dB return loss bandwidth is 35.9%(9.69~13.94GHz), 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 34.6GHz (9.93~14.03GHz), and 6dB gain bandwidth is 27.4%(10.35~13.6GHz). For the fabricated 8$\times$8 array antenna, the 10dB return loss bandwidth is 27.3%(10.17~13.41GHz), 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 27.9GHz(10.1~13.4GHz), and the radiation pattern is good agreement with theory. This antenna can be used for broadband applications for communications or broadcasting in Ku band.

  • A CMOS band-pass delta-sigma modulator(BPDSM) and cascode class-E power amplifier have been developed CMOS for Class-S power amplifier applications. The BPDSM is operating at 1-GHz sampling frequency, which converts a 250-MHz sinusoidal signal to a pulse-width modulated digital signal without the quantization noise. The BPDSM shows a 25-dB SQNR(Signal to Quantization Noise Ratio) and consumes a power of 24 mW at an 1.2-V supply voltage. The class-E power amplifier exhibits an 18.1 dBm of the maximum output power with a 25% drain efficiency at a 3.3-V supply voltage. The BPDSM and class-E PA were fabricated in the Dongbu's 110-nm CMOS process.

DSP based Narrow-Band Signal Power Detector for Tracking Control of Satellite Antenna (위성통신안테나 추적제어를 위한 DSP 기반의 협대역신호 전력 검출기)

  • This paper presents DSP based narrow band satellite communication signal power detector for tracking control of mobile satellite antenna system. An analog filter based conventional power detector has poor performance due to frequency drift of carrier. Also, it is very difficult to change an analog filter bandwidth according to changed bandwidth of transmitted signal. To solve these difficulties, we proposed DSP based signal power detector, which is easy to change bandwidth of filter and to match shifted frequency of carrier. The proposed signal power detector consists of a FFT function to measure frequency drift of carrier, a programmable filter bank function to limit of received signal bandwidth and a power calculation function to measure power of filtered signal in 12-bit linear scale. Test results of implemented signal power detector, based on TMS320C5402 DSP, showed that it satisfied required functions and performances and properly operated.

  • A small millimeter-wave tracking radar power supply must provide stable power with minimal ripple noise and the switching frequency noise of the DC-DC converter must have a real-time self-test capability through on-the-fly monitoring without causing false alarms and ghost In this study, we developed a multi-output switching power supply with output power of more than 80% (@ 100% load) and 10 output power by adopting + 28VDC input for application to small millimeter wave tracking radar, DC-DC converter is applied for large power output and multi-output flyback method is applied for the remaining small power output. The test results show that 85% efficiency efficiency is achieved under 100% load condition.

  • MB-OFDM (Multiband-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) UWB (ultra wide band) system uses DCM (dual carrier modulation) scheme to achieve high-data rate transmission. The basic idea of DCM is that to transmit the 4 bits more reliably two 16-QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) symbols are used and the two 16-QAM sysmbols are allocated to each subcarrier of OFDM with maximum-distance. In the case of using the DCM, if one 16-QAM symbol is broken by deep fadding channel, a receiver can detect the transmitted signal by using another 16-QAM symbol. In the conventional ML(maximum likelihood) decision scheme, since the receiver does not use the CSI (channel state information), loss in diversity can not be reduced. In this paper, we propose improved soft-decision scheme with CSI for higher performance of MB-OFDM UWB systemn.

  • In a speech coding system using excitation source of voiced and unvoiced, it would be involved a distortion of speech qualify in case coexist with a voiced and an unvoiced consonants in a frame. So, We proposed TS(Transition Segment) including unvoiced consonant searching and extraction method in order to uncoexistent with a voiced and unvoiced consonants in a frame. This research present a new method of TS approximate-synthesis by using Least Mean Square and frequency band division. As a result, this method obtain a high qualify approximation-synthesis waveforms within TS by using frequency information of 0.547kHz below and 2.813kHz above. The important thing is that the maximum error signal can be made with low distortion approximation-synthesis waveform within TS. This method has the capability of being applied to a new speech coding of Voiced/Silence/TS, speech analysis and speech synthesis.

Design of Double-Conversion Down Mixer Using Single Half-LO Frequency at 2.3 GHz (2.3 GHz 대역에서 단일 Half-LO 주파수를 이용한 Double-Conversion Down Mixer 설계)

  • In this paper, we designed the double conversion down mixer by using Half-LO frequency in 2.3 GHz band. The IF frequency is obtained by supplying two LO frequencies to HEMT in both gate type and resistive type. The proposed mixer uses Half-LO frequency the same way as conventional sub-harmonic mixers. However the proposed one uses fundamental component of Half-LO frequency in first stage instead of using second harmonic components of Half-LO frequency, and the IF frequency is obtained by resistive type mixer in second stage, thereby the proposed mixer can improve linearity in comparison with conventional active mixer. We can verify that the proposed mixer has an conversion loss of 5dBm and IIP3 of 16.25dBm by using 10 dBm Power.

  • In this paper, we propose a new Intra-body communication system for bio-sensor which is one of applications in PAN(Personal Area Network) using body channel. The communication systems for bio-sensor network usually transmits a lot of data acquired in sensor to the receiver in wrist or waist. So we deign the intra-body modem with high data rate, low power, and small size which are achieved by baseband communication techniques. It is noted that the baseband transmission does not requires any analog IF and RF frontends, and can be operated in lower frequency than bandpass transmission. The proposed modem operates at 10MHz band according to the characteristics of intra-body channel, and shows the capability of 5Mbps data rate at distance of 20cm, with $BER=10^{-5}$. In addition, we implement the modem within $2{\times}2cm$ area.
