In this study, variable characteristics of drinking water and the influences on underground water reservoirs, rooftop water tanks, and service water pipes in the building were assessed. The influence of underground water reservoir material and water capacity on water quality also were assessed. The results are the following as; First of all, the drinking water passing through underground water reservoirs or service water pipes in the building, averagely metal component concentration more increased from percent of 41.3 to percent of 74.2 totally than other items of water quality. On the other hand, both residual chlorine and total solid highly decreased 65.6 percent and 35.3 percent, respectively. Therefore, it was thought that water quality could be getting worse for microorganism re-growth by residual chlorine reduction, and total solid also could be a cause for extraneous matters accumulated in water reservoir. Secondly, the variations on water quality of each stage for water supply system in the building were higher in water service pipes connected from rooftop water tanks to the tap than in underground water reservoirs. In addition to, among of twelve items on water quality, ten items on water quality except dissolved oxygen and residual chlorine increased. Therefore, it was thought that the influence of water service pipes connected from rooftop water tanks to the tap on water quality were higher than other stages of water supply system in the building. Thirdly, in case of materials of underground water reservoir, it was likely that the variation on water quality by stainless steel and concrete materials got some similar. In case of water capacity, the variations on water quality of underground water reservoirs over $1,000m^3$ higher than those under $1,000m^3$. That reasons was likely that the retention time(49.72 hours averagely) of underground water reservoirs over $1,000m^3$ was two times longer than it of those under $1,000m^3$(23.37 hours). Therefore, it was thought that the influence on water quality by materials were some similar, but in case of water capacity, the influence of underground water reservoirs were higher.

Water loss is one of the typical but challenging problems in water management. To reduced water loss or increase water efficiency, the pilot projects were implemented in the TTD's irrigation area. Modern soil moisture technology and local level water user training were conducted together as a mean to achieve improved water efficiency. In terms of technology, soil moisture sensors and monitoring system were used to estimate crop water requirement to reduce unnecessary irrigation. This was found to save 16.47% of irrigated water and 25.20% of irrigation supply. Further improvement of water efficiency was gained by means of local level water user training in which stakeholders were engaged in the network of communications and co-planning. The lessons learnt from the TTD pilot project was translated into good water management practices at local level.
Climate adaptation strategies for water utilities including 16 water treatment plants(WTPs) in Jeju were investigated. Drought, heat wave, and heavy rain were among the most significant climate factors affecting water utilities in Jeju. Heat wave increases water temperature, which in turn increases the concentration of algae, color, and odor materials. Some adaption strategies for the heat wave can be strengthening water monitoring and introducing advanced water treatments. Heavy rain increases raw water turbidity in surface water. The 7 WTPs that take raw water from streams or springs had a maximum turbidity of less than 50 NTU under heavy rain. However, due to concerns of turbidity spike in treated water, some WTPs discontinued intaking raw water when raw water turbidity increased more than 2 NTU. They instead received treated water from other WTPs which took groundwater for water supply. This happens because of the low skills of employees. Thus, there needs to be an increase in operator competency and upgrade of water facilities for the adaption of heavy rain. To improve adaption for the drought, there should be an increase in the capacity of intake facilities of surface water as well as a decrease in water loss. In addition, water consumption per person should be decreased.

Thailand had issued a national strategic development master plan with issues related to water resources and water security in the entire water management. Water resources are an important factor of living and development of the country's socio-economy to be stable, prosperous and sustainable. Therefore, water management in both multidimensional and multi-sectoral systems is important and will supports socio-economic and environmental development. The direction of national development in accordance with the national strategic framework for 20 years that requires the country to level up security level in terms of water, energy and food. To response to the proposed goals, there is a subplan to increase water productivity of the entire water system for economical development use by evaluating use value and to create more value added from water use to meet international standard level. This study aims to evaluate the water productivity of Thailand in each basin and all sectors such as agricultural sector, service and industrial sectors by using the water use data from water account analysis and GDP data from NESDB during the past 10 years (1996-2015). The comparison of water productivity with other countries will also be conducted and in addition, the measures to improve water productivity in next 20 years will be explored to response to the National Strategic Master Plan goals. Water productivity is defined as output per unit of water depleted. The simplest way to compare water productivity across different enterprises is in monetary terms. World Bank presents water productivity as an indication of the efficiency by which each country uses its water resources. There are two data sets used for water productivity analyses, i.e., the first is water use data at end users and the second is Gross Domestic Product. The water use at end users are estimated by water account method based on the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting for Water (SEEA-Water) concept of United Nations. The water account shows the analyses of the water balance between the use and supply of each water resource in physical terms. The water supply and use linkage in the water account analyses separated into each phases, i.e., water sources, water managers, water service providers, water user at end user under water regulators of all kinds of water use activities such as household, industrial, agricultural, tourism, hydropower, and ecological conservation uses. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a well- known measuring method of the national economic growth is not actually a comprehensive approach to describe all aspects of national economic status, since GDP does not take into account the costs of the negative impacts to natural resources that result from the overexploitation of development projects, however, at present, integrating the environment with the economy of a country to measure its economic growth with GDP is acceptable worldwide. The study results will show the water use at each basin, use types at end users, water productivity in each sector from 1996-2015 compared with other countries, Besides the productivity improvement measures will be explored and proposed for the National Strategic Master Plan.
The flushing is important to maintain good water quality in water main. It is a technique of using water velocity to remove sediments in water distribution system. The variety of water quality problems can occur in a distribution system, so too can a variety of benefits be gained by system flushing. In order to effectively perform the flushing, the contaminants to be removed to set up and it can be solved, it is necessary to ensure the proper flow rate. In this study, the removal of contaminants present in the inner water pipe attached loose deposits such as fine particles of granular activated carbon, sand and iron corrosion product sought to derive flow rates. Thus, the constant observation of using pilot plant scale water distribution plant for the movement of floating characteristics of particles were assessed.

Water distribution systems supply drinking water to consumers' taps. Internal corrosion of metallic pipe used in drinking water distribution systems has reduced water quality and led to increased levels of toxic heavy metals such as lead, copper and nickel. These problems have been experienced to varying degrees by water utilities in many countries. North America has successfully managed and controlled pipe corrosion and corrosive water in water distribution system based on various policies, regulations and rules. Practical and engineering guidelines for evaluation of pipe corrosion and determination of treatment options are also provided to assist drinking water supplies. In addition, the corrosion mechanism in water distribution systems, such as the complex effects of physical and chemical parameters on the corrosion pipes has been improved to accurately predict corrosion rates of metallic pipes in actual water distribution systems. This paper reviews various regulations, policy statement, and treatment produces on controlling corrosion in drinking water distribution systems in US and Canada and then offers suggestion for management of corrosive water and pipe corrosion in drinking water distribution system in Korea.
In-situ observations were carried out in April 2015 to investigate the occurrence of water temperature inversion in a region west of Jeju Island. Analysis of in-situ in the western part of Jeju island showed that cold water moved to the southeast from the surface to the middle layer and warm water moved from the middle to the lower layer of the northwest direction. The water temperature inversion occurred at 84 stations (63.1%) out of 133 stations. At the boundary of the water temperature inversion layer, it was formed in the middle layer and disappeared. In the strongly appearing, it started from the middle layer to the lower layer. The shape of the water temperature inversion layer was different. As a result of horizontal water temperature slope analysis of the water temperature inversion zone, maximum 0.23℃/km was obtained and the mean was 0.06℃/km. The role of water temperature inversion as an indicator to determine the formation of water front. As a result of the water mass analysis, Jeju Warm Current Water and Tsushima Warm Current Water of high temperature and high salt intruded from the middle to the bottom. In the middle layer occurred as the Yellow Sea Cold Water of low water temperature and low salinity expanded.
According to Geum-River restoration project, given conditions for management of water environment in the Geum-River were changed. Because of those changes, this study was investigated the establishment of water quality standards and water quality target in the Geum-River basin. For management of water environment in the Geum-River, the sub-basins and watersheds are newly divided and the water quality and ecosystem standards in the sub-basins are reestablished. Considering the consistency of water environment policy and legal system, the legal name of sub-basins and watersheds are unified. TMDL (total maximum daily load) should be implemented in the sub-basin where exceeds the water quality standards and the number of water pollutant among the water quality parameters which exceeds the water quality standards are extremely minimized. The water quality target of water pollutant for implementation of TMDL should be established same or higher concentration of water quality standards.
To examine water pollution status of agricultural water source of greenhouse area in Gyeongnam, the ground water quality was investigated six times at five areas in Gyeongnam from October in 1995 to March in 1996. pH of ground water were generally in the range of 5.9∼7.6. But a site in Changnyeong area was out of the range In 6.0∼8.5 which is water quality standard for agriculture. COD of ground water was below 2.8mg/l. NH4+-N contents in ground water was very low in all areas and the average of NO3'-N contents in Changnyeong and Chinju area was high with 13.2 and 11.5mg/l respectively. Hardness, SO42- and EC of ground water In Hmm were higher than any other area. Fe and Mn contents of ground water in Kimhae were higher than any other area with 7.17 and 0.95wt, respectively. Heavy metals such as Cu, Cd, Pb and Zn of ground waker were below water Quality standard far agriculture but some sites were over. Between COD and SS in ground water were not correlated with rInG.338,'but between COD and NH4+, -N were positively correlated. And EC was positively correlated with Ca2+, Mg2+ and SO42-. Ground water pollution status of agricultural water source of greenhouse area in Gyeongnam was genrrally high in order of Sacheon < Chinju < Hmn < Kimhae < Changnyeong.
Physical properties of water, such as dielectric constant and ionic product, significantly vary with the density of water. In the supercritical conditions, since density of water widely varies with pressure, pressure has a strong influence on physical properties of water. Dielectric constant represents a character of water as a solvent, which determines solubility of an inorganic compound including metal oxides. Dissociation equilibrium of an acid is also strongly dependent on water density. Dissociation constant of acid rises with increased density of water, resulting in drop of pH. Density of water and the density-related physical properties of water, therefore, are the major governing factors of corrosion and environmentally assisted cracking of metals in supercritical aqueous solutions. This paper discusses importance of "physical properties of water" in understanding corrosion and cracking behavior of alloys in supercritical water environments, based on experimental data and estimated solubility of metal oxides. It has been pointed out that the water density can have significant effects on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility of metals in supercritical water, when dissolution of metal plays the key role in the cracking phenomena.
