  • The product-user interface for consumer electronic products became complex due to the increased variety of functions corresponding to consumer needs. In this study, three types fo design improvement of the menu interface for a video cassette recorder is studied. Three modifications to an existing menu interface was designed using the semantic, the syntactic and the lexical design factors. A series of the validation experiments was performed to test the effect of the three types of task modifications. The results showed that performance time, number of errors and learning effect were improved for all task modification. It also showed that the performance improvement effect of the semantic factors was 8.8%, that of the syntactic factors was 5.9% and that of the lexical factors was 5.6% respectively. It was found out that the performance improvement effect of the semantic design factors were relatively more significant than the syntactic and the lexical design factors.

  • The most important element upon the quality of family glass products is the color of glass, which is the first object of consumers concern in purchasing. Therefore, colorless and transparent color tone can level up the additional value of the products. But we have produced the glass products in a large quantity by using the automatic tank brazier, chronic problem has been left over the color tone. By compounding and analizing the management techniques applied by peculiar technique and design of experiments pertinently, and by adjusting the decoloring composition ratio, we can contribute to improvement of color tone as well as to the cost reduction by diminishing the unnecessary decoloring agent. Intangible effect was the securing the superiority of quality home and abroad with the improvement of color tone and was taking a triangular position the factors influencing the glass decoloring which had been an unexhausted field. Tangible effect was the reduction of decoloring cost by diminishing the unnecessary oxidant. We registered the optimal composition ratio condition which was searched by applicating the design of experiments. To maintain good color tone, we manage the degree of purity, the most important thing among the items of color tone, continuously by control chart and it has maintained steady state now.

  • In the single-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive, the required DC source is generally supplied by the circuit consisting of bridge rectifier and large filter capacitor connected with DC line terminal. Due to the large capacity of the capacitor, the charged time of capacitor is very short from the AC source. Lead to the bridge rectifiers draws pulsating current from the AC source side, which results in reduction of power factor and low system efficiency. Therefore a novel single-phase SRM drive system is presented in this paper, which includes drive circuit realizing reduction of torque ripple and improvement of power factor with a novel switching topology. The proposed drive circuit consists of one switching part and diode, which can separate the output of AC/DC rectifier from the large capacitor and supply power to SRM alternately, in order to realize the torque ripple reduction and power factor improvement through the switching scheme. In addition, the validity of the proposed method is tested by some simulations and experiments.

  • Improvement of soft clay layers is highly significant for the efficient utilization of the national land. Thus, the development of advanced methods and materials is currently necessary. Quicklime, as a injection material for the soil improvement, is possibly applied as the useful method for the improvement of soft clay layers. Based upon the experimental study, the following conclusions were obtained. When quicklime was employed, a substantial strength increase was observed from the initial stage of injection. In overall, the present experiments showed that the improvement effects of soft clay layers using the quicklime are appeared to be substantially better than those of lime or sand. Therefore, the possibility of quicklime usage is significantly high in domestic country with abundant lime reserves.

  • In this paper, the baseline-length information is directly modeled as a measurement for the Wald test, which speeds up the resolution convergence of the integer ambiguity of GPS carrier phase measurements. The convergent speed improvement is demonstrated using numerical simulation and real experiments. It is also shown that the integer ambiguities can be resolved using only four actual satellite measurements with very reasonable convergence speed, if the baseline-length information is used just like one additional observable satellite measurement. Finally, it is shown that the improvement of convergence speed of the Wald test is due to the increase of the probability ratio with the use of the baseline-length constraint.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the improvement of formability of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet by using local heating and cooling technique. For this, the experiments of warm deep drawing were done under the temperatures of $100^{\circ}C\~400^{\circ}C$, and the punch velocity of 10, 100mm/min. Also FE analysis under the temperatures of blankholder and die of $150^{\circ}C,\;225^{\circ}C\;and\;300^{\circ}C$ for tools(holder and die) was executed with considering heat teansfer. From the results, the formability of AZ31 magnesium alloy, espicially the temperatures of $225^{\circ}C\~250^{\circ}C$ for tools(holder and die)improved remarkably. And the experiments and simulations showed that necking under room temperature for tools occured under the part of punch shoulder while at $300^{\circ}C$ for tools, at the part of die shoulder.

  • According to the study and experiments performed on the Improvement of Maintaining Temperature of Aviation Dangerous Goods, a conclusion was drawn that clear technical guidelines should be established from the design and assembly stage of temperature-controlled packaging, taking into account actual transportation environment. In particular, profiles consisting of only two types of summer and winter are difficult to adjust flexibly in transportation process with severe weather and temperature changes such as spring and fall. To this end, there is a need to establish a compromise profile configuration for summer and winter. It was also found that the condition of the refrigerant, temperature control, and the speed of the packaging operation have a significant impact on maintaining constant temperature. Therefore, all packing operations need to be completed within a short period of time in the environment close to the target temperature. The current packing instructions provided by packaging manufacturers do not provide precise instructions on post-conditioning, but the experiments in this study confirmed that post-conditioning is very important for maintaining the target temperature, so it is necessary to provide precise legal packing technical instructions.

  • This paper presents a numerical study on the performance improvement of axial-flow pump with guide vanes. Design optimization for guide vanes in an axial-flow pump has been studied through the implementation of a commercial CFD code and DOE (design of experiments). We also discussed how to improve the performance of the axial-flow pump by designing the guide vanes. Geometric design variables were defined by the meridional plane and vane plane development of guide vanes. The effect of hub tip ratio analyzed the meridional plane of guide vanes. The importance of the geometric design variables was analyzed using $2^k$ factorial designs. The objective functions for guide vane geometric variables were defined as the total efficiency and the total head at the design flow rate. From the $2^k$ factorial design results, the important design variables were found and the performance was increased in comparison with the base design model.

  • For the purpose of speaker normalization in speaker independent speech recognition systems, experiments are conducted on a method based on Gaussian mixture model(GMM). The method, which is an improvement of the previous study based on vector quantizer, consists of modeling the probability distribution of canonical feature vectors by a GMM with an appropriate number of clusters, and of estimating the warp factor of a test speaker by making use of the obtained probabilistic model. The purpose of this study is twofold: improving the existing ML based methods, and comparing the performance of what is called 'soft decision' method with that of the previous study based on vector quantizer. The effectiveness of the proposed method is investigated by recognition experiments on the TIMIT corpus. The experimental results showed that a little improvement could be obtained tv adjusting the number of clusters in GMM appropriately.

  • In order to satisfy the customer's variant needs for a product quality in recent years, a demand for developing higher precision machining technologies in a lot of application areas such as automobile, cellular phone and semiconductor has been increased more and more. Micro-magnetic induced polishing(${\mu}-MIP$) process is one of these precision technologies. In this study, to verify the parameters' effect of the ${\mu}-MIP$ process on the surface roughness improvement of the inclined workpiece, well planned experiment which was called the design of experiments was carried out. Considered parameters were spindle speed, inductor current, abrasive configuration and working gap between the workpiece and the solid tool. As a result, it was seen that the inductor current and the working gap greatly affected the surface roughness improvement. And to predict the surface roughness of the inclined workpiece, S/N ratio and first-order response surface model was developed.
