In this paper we propose a region-adaptive CELP image coder for still images at low bit rates below 0.5 bpp. The proposed method partitions the image into stochastically similar regions by the minimum spanning tree method and finds prediction coefficients for each region using a 2- dimensional linear prediction model. Coding is carried out on 8$\times$8 blocks and when there are several regions included in a block, an image is synthesized using the prediction coefficients of each region. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method allows improved synthesized image over conventional block-adaptive CELP methods, especially at edges. In addition, performance comparison with the JPEG DCT method shows that while the JPEG method shows block distortion and staircase effects (ragged edges) at bit rates below 0.5 bpp, the proposed CELP method shows improved synthesized images with such effects reduced.

The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of self-growth group counseling program for children in a group home. The results of this study are as follows. First, the self-growth group counseling program was effective to improve self esteem. The most significant increases were seen in the global self-esteem and school-academic self-esteem. Second, the group cohesion and participation frequency of the program were improved, as the session was progressed. Third, as the changes of individual, the understanding and acceptance of oneself and the others are improved. So, impulsivity and aggression became lower, and problem behavior was less.
This research demonstrates the effects of a culture & arts treatment program for elderly women's regional community consciousness. Study subjects of this research are 18 women whose ages are 65 years old and older. (8 women participated in a culture & arts program and 10 women participated in an elderly center program.) The culture & arts program held 16 sessions where the subjects wrote letters or drew pictures. After this program, we measured the degree of regional community consciousness. The results of the study were, first, that the cultural and arts treatment program improved the regional community consciousness among the elderly woman. Second, the treatment program has improved the sub-region of the regional community consciousness among the woman's elderly. This result shows the culture & arts treatment program can be used as an effective way to enhance the consciousness of the regional community on elderly women
Although enzyme-hydrolyzed silk fibroin has been reported to enhance cognitive function before, it has been still unknown which peptides can improve memory. Here we report that amino acid sequences of three novel peptides were identified from fibroin hydrolysate. Fibroin hydrolysate was obtained by hydrolysis with protease after partial hydrolysis with 5M $CaCl_2$. Synthesized peptides derived from these sequences improved scopolamine-induced memory impairments in mice. We confirmed this hydrolysate had effects that improved learning and memory abilities by performing the Rey-Kim test. From this hydrolysate of silk fibroin, amino acid sequences of eight peptides were identified by LC-MS/MS. Three peptides (GAGAGTGSSGFGPY, GAGAGSGAGSGAGAGSGAGAGY, and SGAGSGAGAGSGAGAGSGA) were synthesized to investigate whether they could improve memory. Passive avoidance test and Morris water maze test were performed, and all peptides showed memory-enhancing abilities on scopolamine-induced memory impairments in mice. In this study, we identified three novel peptides that could improve memory, and that silk fibroin hydrolysate was a mixture of various active peptides that could enhance memory.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of Ankle exercise on balance ability of stroke patients. Participants' balance ability were measured prior to the training and they conducted ankle exercise. As for ankle exercises, ankle stretching training and ankle muscle strengthening training were performed for 10 minutes respectively. They did warm up exercise for 5 minutes and then ankle exercise for 20 minutes. And then they did cooldown exercise for 5 minutes. Their balance ability was measured after 9 weeks. According to the results of analyzing the change of balance ability that timed up and go and Berg balance scale score significantly improved but in the control group it did not significantly decrease. In comparison between the groups, Berg balance scale score significantly improved in the ankle exercise group compared to the control group. Ankle exercise performed by stroke patients are considered to be effective in improving balance ability.

Compound semiconductor/CNTs composites have shown considerably improved efficiency improvement in photovoltaic devices, which is often attributed to two different factors. One is the formation of efficient electronic energy cascade structures. The other effect of CNTs on the performance of photovoltaic devices is the decrement of interfacial resistance. The interfacial resistances at n-type/ p-type materials and/or n-type materials/TCO electrode are reduced by an outstanding electrical property of CNTs. In addition to the effects of CNTs, we report the third reason for increment of efficiency in photovoltaic devices by CNT's well-known electrical field enhancement effects. The improved ${\beta}$ values in reverse-FE currents of CIGS electrode with SWNTs layers indicate the enhancement of electrical field in photovoltaic devices, which implies the acceleration of the electron transfer rate in the cell. Due to the formation of an efficient electronic energy cascade structure and the decrease of the interfacial resistance as well as the improvement of the electrical field in the photovoltaic devices, the power conversion efficiency of electrochemically deposited superstrate-type CIGS solar cells was increased 24.3% in the presence of SWNTs and showed 10.40% conversion efficiency.
It is a fundamental experiment to use blast-furnace slag in solidification/stabilization process. The compressive strength and leaching test of Pb and Cr doped samples were evaluated and the effects of heavy-metal ions on the hydration of slag was investigated. Sodium silicates(5wt%) was added as alkali-activator and the effects of replacing a part of slag with flyash or gypsum was also discussed. Pb ion was solidified by encapsulation of matrix. In of slag${\pm}$gypsum binder microstructure was densified by accelerating to form AFt/AFm phase and compressive strength was improved resulting in reducing leaching amount of Pb ion. Cr ion was solidified by substituting with Al ion in aluminate product. Slag+fly ash binder improved compressive strength and decreased leaching amount of Cr ion.
Diabetic Peripheral Polyneuropathy is one of the most distressing complications of diabetes, Drugs such as narcotic analgesics, tricyclic antidepressants, anticonvulsants and phenothiazines have been used to treat diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy, but these drugs are not very effective for the many patients and the side effects may become intolerable. In oriental medicine, usually the main etiology of diabetic Peripheral Polyneuropathy is insufficiency of Blood due to the state of dry-heat in the human body. Therefore, we use Bogan-tang to treat numbness of Diabetic Peripheral Polyneuropathy. Bogan-tang was administrated twice a day for 15 days, and VAS Scale was performed every day to evaluate numbness and insufficiency of blood. In both cases, numbness and insufficiency of blood were improved without any side effects. This study suggests that Bogan-tang is an effective drug in the treatment of Diabetic Peripheral Polyneuropathy.
