  • The purpose of the study was to 1) extend the cognitive categorization theory in an attempt to explain the effect of garment formality, Yin-Yang, and body type of children on impression formation, and 2) to understand teacher's attitudes toward children's school outfits. The experimental design was a $2^3$_full factorial design by 3 independent variables. The stimuli consisted of 8 color photographs and the semantic differential response scale was used to analyze the responses of 267 teachers of elementary school. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, ANOVA, Duncan' test and content analysis. Four factors emerged to account for dimensions of first impressions. These were sociability, potency, dynamics, and cooperation. Garment formality effected on impression of cooperation dimension. Garment Yin-Yang and children's body type effected on impression of social and dynamics dimensions.

  • The purpose of this investigation was to study the preperty of flow for seven different impression materials presently available in KOREA. In this study ,200 grams of a load was applied at regular intervals. As the result of this study, following points were revealed in terms of flow property of respective materials. 1)Impression plaster and irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials were found to have insufficient working time due to their tendency to set rapidly after mixing. 2)Regarding to impresssion pastes, it was found that it has manifested an ideal flow property until 2 minutes after mixing. Clinically, this material seems to allow sufficient working time for its manipulation.

  • To evaluate the effect of disinfectants for Alginate impression, several commercially available disinfectants were tested to Alginate model contaminated by Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Alginate specimens were artificially contaminated by Staphylococcus aureus and soaking in four commercially available disinfectants for 1, 5, 10 minutes and colonies were counted for each case. Significant reduction of bacterial colony counts was noted after soaking in 0.5% and 0.05% sodium hypochlorite and after soaking in 2% glutaraldehyde, but not after soaking in Hypochlorus add. Commercially available sodium hypochlorite and glutaraldehyde were found to be effective disinfectants for Alginate impression. But hypochlorus add was not adequate disinfectant.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of uniform's color and motif on nurse's impression formation. The experimental design was 5×3×2(uniform color×motif ×perceiver's gender) factorial design with a between-subjects design. The experimental materials developed for the study were a set of stimuli and a response scale. The subjects were 738 undergraduate students of Daejon and Chungnam province. The SPSS package was used for data analysis which includes factor analysis, two-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, and Cronbach's α to measure the reliability. Results were as follows; The image or the stimulus was consisted of the 4 different dimensions(evaluation, sociability, ability, potency). All the independent variables showed some significant impression effects on selected dimensions. The motif and perceiver's gender also showed significant main effects as well as some interaction effects with the color variable on some selected impression dimension and the impression effects of the three variables in relationship to perceiving nurses' images. On a conclusion, these results supported the Gestalt theory.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the constructing factors of impression formation on man's body revealing casual clothes by university students, and to investigate the effect of revealing clothing styles and perceiver's gender on each factors of impression. The stimuli consisted of 12 color photogrphs including various styles of body revealing casual tops and bottoms; subject consisted of 310 male and female university student; subject observed 2 photographs each, ramdomly chosen from a pool of 12 and answered 37 semantic differention questions. Statistics applied for analysis were Factor Analysis, ANOVA and post hoc test. Results were; 1. Important factors constructing the impresstion of a male dressed in body revealing casual clothes were modesty, sexual stimulation and individuality 2. The styles of the body exposure and perceiver's gender had partial significant influence on impression formation.

  • Viscosity and shear stress of the dental impression materials on commercial market(Imprint Garant LB(3M, U.S.A), EXAMIXFINE IT(GC, Japan), Vonflex S LB(Vericom, Korea), S-Silicone LB(Shinwon, Korea)) were measured with increasing shear rate from 50(1/sec) to 100(1/sec). The viscosity of EXAMIXFINE IT was decreased from 20,542(cP) to 14,684(cP), which is the shear thinning property of pseudoplastic as non-Newtonian fluid. Since the pseudoplastic property makes the impression material shear thinning and softly injected from cartridge, EXAMIXFINE IT might be popularly used in dentistry.

  • We developed a facial image generating technique that can manipulate facial impressions. The present study applied this impression transferring method to higher-order impressions such as "elegance" or "attractiveness" and confirmed the psychological validity of this method using the semantic differential method. Subsequently, we applied this method to two types of cognitive experiments. First, we examined the contributions of texture and shape on the facial impressions by using those face images for which the impressions have already been quantitatively manipulated based on this method. Second, we used such stimuli to examine the effect of facial impressions and attractiveness on the "mere exposure effect." Thus, we concluded that the impression transfer vector method is an effective tool to quantitatively manipulate the facial impressions in various cognitive studies.

  • This study was performed to development a dental three-dimensional laser scanning system and measure the accuracy of new adjustable lower dental impression trays. Multiple impressions of a resin master model were made with custom, stock and new adjustable trays and vinyl polysiloxane impression material. The lower master model and resulting cast were compared using an dental scanning system. Each 3D image was superimposed onto the lower master model image and analyzed with custom software. Multiple measurements of the lower master model and casts were analyzed to determine the accuracy of tray types.

  • The purpose of this research was to find out the effects of the person and costume on the formation of first impression. 4 Models were choosen who had sporty, intellectual, social and cute impression. Tried on them sporty, intellectual, social and cute costumes, 16 pictures of them were taken four ty four method, and those were shown to 640 college girl students in Seoul to check the change of impression. The results are as follows : 1) The sporty costume to he perceived as sporty than either the social or intellectual and cute costume. 2) The social person to he perceived as social than either the sporty on intellectual and cute person. 3) The intellectual costume to be perceived as intellectual than either the sporty or social & cute costume. 4) The cute costume to be perceived as cute than either the sporty or social and intellectual costume.

  • Opera house acoustics were subjectively evaluated in order to investigate the effect of performance stage views on the audience's perception of the seat acoustics in an opera house. Nine seats from an existing opera house were selected for the auditory and/or visual experiments according to seating area distribution and acoustical parameters such as RT and $1-IACC_{E3}$. The recorded music, convolved from the impulse response, was presented with and without visual images of the stage. Subjects were asked to assess the auditory/visual descriptors and overall impression of the music at each seat. The results showed that good visual input helps produce a favorable impression of the acoustics, but a limited view degrades acoustical impression. The acoustical parameters in the tested seats were also investigated to find the relationship between the acoustical parameters and the visual/sound impression.
