The implicit association test (IAT) measures implicit attitudes of participants and is regarded as an effective method for expecting future behaviors. Based on the IAT, this study aimed to answer the question, whether implicit attitudes of an individual about creativity have any kinds of impact on global perception, which might be important for a creative process. In the experiment, participants were presented words, which were associated with one of four categories, while one attitude category (creativity /practicality) and one evaluative category (good/bad) were always paired together either on the left side or on the right side of the computer screen. After completing the IAT test, participants were led to fill out a questionnaire to assess explicit attitudes toward creativity and practicality. Then they conducted the navon task, in which they had to find one of two letters, 'F' or 'H', which were presented either as a local form or as a global form. Finally, the participants had to write down as many untypical functions of an object as possible. The results showed that not the scores of explicit attitude scores but the IAT scores correlated with the reaction time of global perception. The global perception was faster in the participants with the low IAT scores than the local perception. Compared to this, the global perception benefits disappeared in the participants with the high IAT scores. Additionally, more creative ideas about the functions of the object were listed in the group with the lower IAT scores. Implications of the role of implicit attitudes about creative processes are discussed.
The purpose of this study is to verify whether it is possible for participants to discriminate between innocent and guilty suspects when they are exposed to criminal information utilizing an autobiographical implicit association test (aIAT). A total of 49 college students were randomly assigned to guilty group, innocent-aware group, or innocent-unaware group. Participants performed an aIAT to detect suspects after performing either mock crime or control task. It was verified that innocent suspect and guilty suspect exposed with crime information could be distinguished through D-score and reaction time, converted to symbolize strength of the association between guilty sentences, innocent sentences, and truth sentences. As a result of the analysis, guilty group showed significantly higher D-score than both innocent-aware group and innocent-unaware group. guilty group also showed faster response time in true-guilty condition than true-innocent condition. This shows that the association of true-guilty conditions is stronger than that of true-innocent conditions. On the other hand, the innocent-aware group showed a faster response time in the true-innocent condition than the true-guilty condition, and innocent-unaware group showed no significant difference between the two conditions. Through this, it was confirmed that innocent suspects exposed to criminal information can be discriminated according to the aIAT pattern, which has a faster reaction rate to the truth and innocence union than the guilty group. This study confirmed that suspects exposed to criminal information can be effectively discriminated using aIAT, and further suggests the usefulness and potential of aIAT in the field of lie detection.
The relationship between dependent personality traits and depression has been widely studied in the field of psychology. However, the existing evidence is mixed and often contradictory, obscuring the precise nature of this relationship. Given that the most common method of measuring the construct of dependency has been to administer self-report instruments, it is possible that implicit dependency, another parameter of dependency that is distinct from explicit dependency measured via self-report, is confounding these results. The current study aimed to clarify the relationship between dependency and depression by comparing the effect of implicit and explicit dependency. Implicit dependency was measured via the Single Category-Implicit Association Test (SC-IAT), a test of implicit personality that has shown to have good validity and reliability in previous studies. In addition, we examined the effect of gender on this relationship, given the potential role of gender stereotype that may make male participants show lower levels of dependency when measured through self-report (vs. SC-IAT). Results showed that implicit and explicit dependency indeed had separate and distinct relationships, and the relationships depends on participants' gender. Among female participants, increased explicit dependency predicted depression only when implicit dependency was also elevated. In contrast, explicit dependency predicted depression regardless of the level of implicit dependency in male participants. These findings suggest that implicit and explicit dependency may be separate parameters capturing different aspects of dependent personality traits, further supporting the need to consider the implicit aspect of personality in personality assessment research. Implications and limitations of the current findings and directions for future research are discussed.

This research analyzed the brainwave activities and brain hemispherity to find out any implications to design the connections between the activities of the brain function and the computerized arithmetic addition in two difficulty levels: easy: 1-5 vs. hard: 6-9. Thus, in developing the brain based math learning for the computer education by implicit association test(IAT) indicated the significant results for the exclusive brain location and the brain hemispherity on the theta, alpha, low alpha, beta brainwaves by QEEG analysis. The results of this study physiologically supported the theoretical background for the computerized math learning skills as well as the math learning material development. It shows the difficulty levels of math information education and the brain activities on cognitive process of the learner continued on the possible investigation of the brain science.
The purpose of this study was to develop an Implicit Association Test to measure students' gender-biased attitude toward Home Economics, a required subject in middle-school and to examine the effects of gender, gender-biased attitude toward Home Economics, and gender egalitarianism on the perception of the subject. A total of 508 male and female middle-school students were surveyed using Qualtrics. The results revealed that the students had a gender-biased attitude of perceiving Home Economics as feminine as a whole, and this tendency was more evident among female than male students. To the contrary, their attitudes toward Home Economics as a subject was generally favorable when asked explicitly using self-administered questions. Among the high school elective classes, students preferred 'fashion' most, followed by 'dietary life', 'technology and home economics', and 'family life culture'. Female students, students with patriarchal attitude, and students who has gender-biased attitude toward Home Economics were more likely to perceive Home Economics as an alienated and less important subject. The generally positive explicit attitude toward Home Economics may be the results the social desirability effect due to the education. However, the home economists should develop a plan to overcome the gender-biased implicit attitude in order for the value of Home Economics as a subject to be fully addressed.
The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of the explicit and implicit attitudes towards the elderly according to age and gender. For this research, 64 college students and 64 older people completed Explicit Attitudes Rating Scales (likability/ trustfulness/ companionship/ group membership), Explicit Preference Test, and Young-Old Implicit Association Test. The college students presented in-group preference and out-group bias on both explicit and implicit level whereas our-group favoritism was presented in the older participants on both explicit and implicit level, which meant the older participants preferred the young to the old. In both the groups, however, there were no significant correlations between explicit and implicit age attitude. In addition, college students showed an explicit preference for the old over the older participants whereas only interaction effect(age and gender) was appeared on implicit preference toward older people. The theoretical and practical implications and limitations of this study were discussed.

This study was conducted to explore college students' implicit identification with others powerful or powerless, and implicit association of self-enhancement & authenticity with their relationships with others powerful or powerless. The study was based on measuring 3 sorts of IAT: an explicit identification test, RWA, & RISC. The results were summed up as follows: Students identified their selves with others more powerful than others powerless; expressed self-enhancement when they were with powerful others; and associated 'true' with relationship with others powerful. Men with high RWA & women with low RWA identified their selves more with others powerful; low RWA & high RISC groups' associated relationship with others powerful to 'true' and others powerless to 'false' more rapidly. These results were discussed in terms of structure of authoritarianism, SEM, relationship with others powerful and powerless.

Previous research has investigated the influence of explicit self-esteem and depression. These studies did not examine the implicit self-esteem and depression that exist in the internal unconscious of humans that are not influenced by prejudice and social desirability. This study identifies that fashion competency (FC) encourages the implicit self-esteem and relieves the implicit depression. Implicit self-esteem and depression were measured by Implicit Association Test (IAT) utilizing reaction; FC was surveyed based on questionnaires. The data collected were analyzed using factor analysis. FC was then composed of three factors of fashion involvement, fashion innovativeness and self-confidence in fashion coordination. The results of comparing the index values that indicate IA SE (implicit association self-esteem) and IA DE (implicit association depression) of each FC group indicated that a higher FC results in a higher IA SE and lower IA DE; therefore, individuals with a higher fashion competence have a higher implicit self-esteem and a sense of well-being. The findings support previous studies in that the FC tends to be positively related to quality of life in young people.
Lying has been such a wrong act in human society, but at the same time we are perpetrating lying surprisingly often in the interpersonal situation. Like this, between what we think and what we do about telling lie is pretty different, and these differences are came from ambivalent attitudes stemmed from different sources which is divided into the implicit and the explicit attitude. We find manipulative liars by simulated racing task by using virtual environment. Implicit Association Test was applied to them to see implicit beliefs, and used self-reported questionnaires to identify explicit attitude about lying. As a result they could manipulate the explicit measures but could not maneuver their own implicit attraction to lie Liars' deceptive behaviors usually occur in subtle and covert way so that it has been hard to notice and to know what lead them to lie. However, as we know those spontaneous process is linked with deception, triggering them lie, it became no more veiled, unpredictable actions.
This study examined how the explicit and implicit race attitudes differ according to age and gender from the developmental perspective in Korean elementary students. The study also investigated the efficacy of a multi-cultural education program on explicit and implicit attitude change in elementary school students. This thesis consists of two parts. In Study 1, elementary school students(first grade:117, fourth grade:117) completed Explicit Attitudes Rating Scales, Explicit Preference Test, and Child Implicit Association Tests (Korean-White/Korean-Black/ Korean-Southeast Asian IATs). The effects of age and gender on explicit and implicit attitudes toward Korean/White/Black/Southeast Asian were examined with two-way MANOVA. The results demonstrated that as age increases, in-group preference/out-group bias decrease on the explicit level. In contrast, on the implicit level, as age increases, in-group preference/out-group bias do not decrease. Rather, prejudiced attitudes toward blacks increase. Study 2 was performed to investigate the effect of a multi-cultural education program on explicit and implicit attitude change toward races in elementary school students. The program conveying an anti-bias message consists of three sessions, and the procedures are as follows; watching video clips, confirming contents and short discussion. Two classes in the program and two classes in comparative groups on the first and fourth grade of elementary school were assessed. The results showed that black preference significantly increased both in the first and the fourth grade elementary students on the explicit attitude level, but not on the implicit level. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings were discussed.
