  • In this paper, experimental study on the wan impingement spray of the common-rail diesel injector is performed. To examine the effect of various factors on the development of spray impinging on the wall, experiments were conducted at the various injection pressures. ambient pressures, wan distances from the injector tip, wall temperatures, and angles of wall inclination. The behaviors of the impingement spray ate visualized by using laser sheet methods and a ICCD camera. It is shown that the spray path penetration of the wall impingement spray increases with the increase of injection pressure, wall distance. wall temperature, wall angle. On the other hand the spray path penetration of the wan impingement spray decreases with the increase of ambient pressure.

  • In this study, experimental study on atomization characteristics of the fuel spray impinging on the wall was at different wall distances and angles of wall inclination. The fuel injection system was composed based on the common rail system. and the injection signal was synchronized by the delay generator. The atomization characteristics of the injected spray were analyzed in terms of the SMD and velocities which were measured by using the phase Doppler particle analyzer system. It is revealed that the free spray is atomized actively above 50mm form the injector tip. In the cases of the impinged spray, the 5MD and velocity of the impinged spray are smaller than those of the free spray. The impinged spray has the maximum near the 35mm of the radial distance from the injector axis, and the atomization performance is enhanced with the decrease of the wall distance.

  • Spray impingement and fuel film formation models with cavitation have been developed and incorporated into the computational fluid dynamics code, STAR-CD. The spray/wall interaction process was modeled by considering the effects of surface temperature conditions and fuel film formation. The behavior of fuel droplets after impingement was divided into rebound, spread and splash using the Weber number and parameter K(equation omitted). The spray impingement model accounts for mass conservation, energy conservation, and heat transfer to the impinging droplets. The fuel film formation model was developed by integrating the continuity, momentum, and energy equations along the direction of fuel film thickness. Zero dimensional cavitation model was adopted in order to consider the cavitation phenomena and to give reasonable initial conditions for spray injection. Numerical simulations of spray tip penetration, spray impingement patterns, and the mass of film-state fuel matched well with the experimental data. The spray impingement and fuel film formation models have been applied to study spray/wall impingement in high-speed direct injection diesel engines.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the impinging plate on combustion process in Diesel engine. Especially, the variation of exhaust emission and engine performance by the change of fuel injection timing and fuel injection pressure between the trial engine with impinging plate and the prototype engine were examined. The nitrogen oxide concentration of the trial engine decreased more than 50% compared to the prototype engine, however, smoke concentration of the trial engine indicated higher degree than the prototype engine. The smoke concentration, fuel consumption rate and exhaust gas temperature decreased as the fuel injection timing become faster, whereas the nitrogen oxide concentration decreased as the fuel injection timing is retarded. The nitrogen oxide concentration, fuel consumption rate and exhaust gas temperature decreased as the fuel injection pressure become lower. But smoke concentration decreased as the fuel injection pressure become higher.

  • This study presents the dynamic characteristics of an impinging droplet on hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces with various texture area fractions. The flat surface was fabricated by using the drilling technique to make micro-meter hole-patterned surfaces, which shows hydrophobic textured surfaces. Moreover, the hydrophilic textured surfaces were manufactured by anodizing technique on the micro-meter hole-patterned surfaces to generate multi-layer surfaces. Impinging droplet experiments were conducted for various hole-patterned surfaces, with changing impact velocity and texture area fractions. It is observed that an anodizing technique increases wettability by decrease in hole diameter on the textured surfaces. However, micro-drilled surfaces decreases wettability because the hole diameter was so large that air can be trapped under the holes. In addition, the maximum spreading diameter decreases with the texture area fraction for the micro-drilled surfaces because of decrease in wettability.

  • The droplet/wall impingement processes in the diesel-like environment are numerically modeled. In order to evaluate the predictive capability of the droplet/wall impingement model developed in this study, computations are carried out for two ambient temperature conditions. Numerical results indicate that the present droplet/wall impingement model reasonably well predicts the basic features of the impinging spray dynamics.

  • In Spray Forming, specific enthalpy is a key parameter in the deposition process as it influences the thermal condition of the impinging droplets as well as that of the deposit surface. An empirical model for the distribution of specific enthalpy in the spray cone was developed as an easy to handle alternative to numerical models with which the descriptive partial differential equations are solved numerically. The model results were compared with the experimental data to validate its applicability.

  • In this study, to investigate the effect of spray behavior characteristics, we induce the mixing ratio of emulsified fuel using impinging spray. We formulate the emulsified fuel by mixing diesel and hydrogen peroxide($H_2O_2$). We set the temperature of the heating plate to $150^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, and $250^{\circ}C$, and set the injection pressures to 400, 600, 800, and 1000bar. The surfactants for the emulsified fuel mixture, which were mixed span80 and tween80 was mixed as 9:1, were fixed to 3% of the total volume of the emulsified fuel. We set the mixing ratio of $H_2O_2$ in the emulsified fuel as emulsified fuel(EF)0, EF2, EF12, and EF22. Further, we visualize the evaporation impinging spray using the Schlieren method. Based on the results of this study, we found that a higher temperature and injection pressure of the heating plate impingement led to the active diffusion of the fuel vapor, which promoted emulsified fuel evaporation. When the emulsified fuel is utilized in an actual engine, because of the temperature-drop effect of the combustion chamber, which is due to the evaporation of $H_2O_2$ in fuel and faster mixture formation is expected to decrease the engine emissions.

  • The characteristics of spray has much effect on performance and emissions for automobile, diesel engine, gas turbine and combustion engines. So spray behavior after impinging the wall is very important for prediction the engine performance. This studies examined about impingement spray considering ambient density(18,24,30kg/ms), temperature(293,473K), impingement angle(0,30,45°). The images of impingement spray were obtained by the high speed video camera. After that we analyzed impingement spray characteristics to use this images. In this experiment, we found that 1) The spray width is reduced by increasing the ambient gas density and temperature,2) The growth of downstream is increased by increasing the impingement angle.

  • Spray impingement model and fuel film formation model were developed and incorporated into the computational fluid dynamics code, STAR-CD. The spray/wall interaction process were modelled by considering the change of behaviour with surface temperature condition and fuel film formation. We divided behaviour of fuel droplets after impingement into stick, rebound and splash using Weber number and parameter K. Spray impingement model accounts for mass conservation, energy conservation and heat transfer to the impinging droplets. A fuel film formation model was developed by Integrating the continuity, the Navier-Stokes and the energy equations along the direction of fuel film thickness. The validation of the model was conducted using diesel spray experimental data and gasoline spray impingement experiment. In all cases, the prediction compared reasonably well with experimental results. Spray impingement model and fuel film formation model have been applied to a direct injection diesel engine combustion chamber.
