A diesel engine is one of the major prime movers to its high thermal efficiency. But due to the recent attention far the environmental pollution, the emissions of diesel engine became to a important problem. So it is needed to understand the characteristics of diesel spray injected into a combustion chamber. The factor which controls the diesel spray are the injection pressure, the nozzle diameter, the impinging angle and the variation of pressure and temperature. In this paper, experiments were conducted far the variation of the environmental temperature(273k, 373k, 573k), free spray and impinging spray. And the notions of penetration, spray angle, axial distance for free spray, and axial distance, spray thickness from impinging wall fur impinging spray.
The supersonic, dual, coaxial jet impinging upon a vertical flat plate has recently been applied to a variety of industrial manufacturing processes, since it has several advantages over a conventional supersonic impinging jet. In the present study, experimentation is carried out to investigate the effects of the impinging angle of the annular flow and the design Mach number on the flow field formed over the vertical flat plate. A convergent-divergent nozzle is used to obtain the inner jet flow, its design Mach number being changed between $1.0\;and\;2.0$. The outer annular nozzle has a constant area of the Mach number of 1.0, and its impinging angle of $0^{\circ}\;and\;20^{\circ}$. The primary jet pressure ratio is changed in the range from 6.0 to 10.0 and for the annular flow, the assistant jet pressure ratio is changed from 1.0 to 4.0. The distance between the dual, coaxial nozzle and flat plate is also changed. Detailed pressure measurements are conducted along the axis of the jet and on the flat plate as well. The impinging coaxial Jet flows are visualized using the Schlieren and Shadow optical methods. The results show that the flow field on the plate is not strongly dependent only on the primary and assistant pressure ratios but also the impinging angle of the annular nozzle.
Even though a relatively complete knowledge base has been established for diesel sprays, much of the knowledge cannot be directly translated to correlate the characteristics of gasoline spray. The macroscopic characteristics of gasoline impingement spray was investigated with photographic and image processing technique by Particle Motion Analysis System. The injector with single hole nozzle diameter of 0.28 mm was used in this experiment and the injection duration was selected as 10 msec. The injection pressure with 0.3, 0.35, and 0.4 MPa, impingement distance or 70, 100 and 130m, impingement angle or 0.15, 30 and $45^{\circ}$ were employed for the variables to affect the spray characteristics of impinging spray. It is clear that there is the analogy on the spray tip penetration between the gasoline impinging jet and diesel free jet. The spray tip penetration of impinging gasoline spray is proportional to the quarter power of the time after start of injection. The maximum height of impinging gasoline spray is also proportional to the quarter power of the time regardless of impingement distance, impingement angle and injection pressure. In addition, the effect of impingement angle on the spray tip penetration is significant according to the time after start of injection, even though there is minor effect in the initial stage of time after start of injection. Moreover, there is no remarkable effect of injection pressure on the spray tip Penetration under the experimental condition used in this study.
An experimental study on the behavior of droplets impinging on a solid flat surface was carried out in the present study. Breakup of a liquid droplet impinging on a solid surface has been investigated experimentally for various liquids with different properties. The liquid droplet temperature and incident angle were chosen as major parameters. Liquid droplet temperature and incident angle varied in the range from $-20{\circ}C\;to\;30{\circ}C\;and\;from\;30{\circ}\;to\;60{\circ},$ respectively. It was found that the variation of droplet temperature influences upon the mean diameter and uniformity of droplets which were bounced out from the solid surface. With increase of incident angle the dispersion mass fraction increases, causing the decrease of liquid film flow rate. As the liquid temperature increases, dispersion mass fraction increases since the surface tension decreases.
An experimental investigation has been carried out to examine the influence of injector design variables and operating conditions on the resultant drop size for triplet impinging streams injectors. The variables studied in this investigation are pressure drop, impinging angle, orifice length to diameter ratio, and impinging point distance. Droplet-size data are obtained using water as the propellant simulant by Malvern Particle Analyzer System. Drop size decreases with increasing impinging angle and pressure drop while other injector parameters remain constant at the same point. But it is found that there is no noticeable droplet-size change which results from change in orifice length to diameter ratio or impinging point distance within the investigated range.
In this paper an experimental study is presented of the problem of dynamic behavior of a water droplet impinging upon a heated surface. The experiments are mainly focused on the effects of impinging angle of a droplet and surface temperature on the impact dynamics of the droplet. It Is clarified that the droplet exhibits much different behavior depending on the normal momentum of an impinging droplet before impact. At surface temperature In the nucleate boiling regime. the disintegration of a droplet doesn't occur, whereas the deforming droplet adheres to the surface. The spreading and contraction of the liquid film is repeated a couple of times for the horizontal surface but the expanded droplet just slips without noticeable contraction for the inclined surfaces. In the film boiling regime, the impinging droplet spreads over the surface as a liquid film which is separated from the surface by produced vapor. Depending on the magnitude of the normal momentum of the droplet the disintegration into the several irregular shapes of liquid elements occurs for the horizontal and 30o-inclined surfaces, whereas the impinging droplet for the 60o-inclined surface doesn't break up and tends to recover the original spherical shape.
In this study, the thickness of the liquid sheet formed by a low speed impinging jet onto a flat plate was measured by the direct contact method. The spatial distribution characteristics of the sheet thickness in the radial and circumferential directions, and the effects of jet velocity and liquid viscosity were analyzed. The measurement results were compared with the theoretical predictions. The wavy surface was observed in the case of low viscosity water, but not in the high viscosity aqueous glycerol solutions. The sheet thickness increased as the circumferential angle increased or the distance from the impinging point increased, but the thickness decreased as the circumferential angle increased around the impinging point. As the jet speed increased, the sheet thickness decreased, and the sheet thickness increased as the liquid viscosity increased. Comparison with the theoretical predictions showed that the measurement results agreed well in the case of low viscosity water or high viscosity liquids around the impinging point. The distribution characteristics of the sheet thickness can provide useful means for prediction of spray characteristics in splash plate injectors.

Diesel engine which has high thermal efficiency is one of the major movers. Recently, as people pay attention to the environmental pollution, the emission of Diesel engine becomes an important problem. So it is needed to understand the characteristics of diesel fuel spray injected into a combustion chamber to reduce the emission. The factors which control the diesel fuel spray are the injection pressure, the nozzle diameter, the impinging angle and the variation of an ambient pressure and temperature. In this paper, the experiments were conducted in the free spray and the impinging spray with various ambient temperatures(273K, 373K, 573K). And the behaviors of the diesel fuel spray, such as penetration, spray angle and axial distance in the free spray and axial distance and spray thickness in the impinging spray were studied.
In this research, a study on the characteristics of the liquid sheet formed by two impinging jets is presented. Using the interference phenomena of light, the thickness of the liquid sheet, which seems to heavily affect the size of the droplets, is measured and compared with existing theoretical modelings. Thinner liquid sheet is produced with larger impinging angle, smaller orifice diameter, and higher azimuthal angle but the jet velocity doesn't affect the thickness. More viscous liquid produces thicker liquid sheet. The theoretical modelings predict the same trend as the experiments but the thickness values are overestimated at low azimuthal angles. This difference is gradually decreased as the azimuthal angle is increased: The breakup mechanism of the droplets from the liquid sheet is visualized by a high speed camera. The crest around the edge of the liquid sheet is protruded with the accumulation of liquid at the end of protuberance, which contracts into a spherical shape and then becomes detached when the stem breaks down, producing large droplets with a few small size of satellites.
