  • A present study is the flow characteristics of impinging jet by PIV measurement and numerical analysis. The flow characteristics of impinging jet flow are affected greatly by nozzle inlet velocity. An circular sharp edged nozzle type$(45^{\circ})$ was used to achieve uniform mean velocity at the nozzle inlet, and its diameter is 10mm(d). Therefore, the flow characteristics on the impinging jet can be changed largely by the control of main flow. In this parent study, we investigate the effects of inlet velocity, its variable is nozzle inlet Reynolds numbers(Re=1500, 3000, 4500, 6000 and 7500).

  • In this research, the velocity distribution of the liquid sheet formed by two impinging jets at low velocities are measured using LDV. The spatial distribution of the sheet velocity as well as the effects of impinging anlge and jet velocity on the sheet velocity are examined. The sheet velocity is highest along the sheet axis and it decreases with the increase of the azimuthal angle. With the increase of the impinging angle, the average sheet velocity is decreased due to the increased impact momentum. The average sheet velocity is proportional to the jet velocity but it is always higher than the jet velocity. This result is against the fact that the sheet velocity can be assumed to be equal to the jet velocity in the previous researches.

  • The implementation of gelled propellants systems offers high performance, energy management of liquid propulsion, storability, and high density impulse of solid propulsion. The present study focused on the macroscopic spray characteristics of liquid sheets formed by triplet impinging jets of non-Newtonian liquids which are mixed by Carbopol 941 0.5%wt. The results are compared to experiments conducted on spray images which formed by triplet impinging jets concerning with airassist effect at center orifice. When gel propellants are injected by doublet impinging jets at low pressure and high pressure, closed rim pattern shape appeared by polymeric effect from molecular force and showed inactive atomization characteristics, because of extensional viscosity related by restriction of atomization process and breakup time delay of turbulence transition. As increasing mass flow rate of the air(increasing GAR), spray breakup level is also increased.

  • A diesel engine is one of the major prime movers to its high thermal efficiency. But due to the recent attention far the environmental pollution, the emissions of diesel engine became to a important problem. So it is needed to understand the characteristics of diesel spray injected into a combustion chamber. The factor which controls the diesel spray are the injection pressure, the nozzle diameter, the impinging angle and the variation of pressure and temperature. In this paper, experiments were conducted far the variation of the environmental temperature(273k, 373k, 573k), free spray and impinging spray. And the notions of penetration, spray angle, axial distance for free spray, and axial distance, spray thickness from impinging wall fur impinging spray.

  • In this study, the velocity characteristics of liquid elements formed by two impinging jets is analysed using double pulse image capturing technique. For the droplets formed by low speed impinging jets, the droplet velocities are higher with smaller azimuthal and impingement angle. The maximum droplet velocities are about 25 % lower than jet velocity. With an increase of azimuthal angle, the shedding angles increases but remains lower than azimuthal angle. The velocities of ligaments formed by high speed impinging jets gradually decreases with an increase of azimuthal angle. The maximum ligament velocities are about 40% lower than jet velocity. Higher impingement angles produce lower ligament velocities. The shedding angles of ligament almost increases with the same value of azimuthal angle, which implies that the moving direction of ligaments is radial from the origin as the impingement point.

  • Generation of hole-tones and the instability of circular impinging jets are investigated based on the frequency characteristics and the radiated sound field. The experiment is carried out with varying hole sizes, jet speeds and impinging distances. It is found that hole-tones occur by both the low-speed laminar jet and the high-speed turbulent jet, but not by the transient jet, while plate-tones without holes are produced only in the high-speed turbulent impinging jet. When the diameter ratio of the hole to the nozzle is nearly one, hole-tones occur most easily. At low speed, it is found that hole-tones are due to the symmetrical unstable jet and the impinging distance decreases with jet speed. And the Strouhal number and the sound pressure level increase with jet speed. At high speed, hole-tones show the same characteristics as plate-tones. It is found that the ratio of the convection speed varies with the Strouhal number and the jet speed.

  • The turbulent flow characteristics of impinging jet have been investigated by the hot wire anemometry with a movable impinging wall. Turbulences were generated by the meshed jet as well as the typical round jet and their characteristics were compared, of mean velocity profiles, turbulent intensities. Reynolds stresses, similarities and their centerline flow behaviors. The meshed jet tends to make shear layer wider than the normal one in the initial region and the velocity profiles of the normal jet is rather contractive being compared with those of the meshed one near the wall. The effect of meshed exit appears only within 4D at the begining of jets and the cascading process of the meshed one marches more rapidly than that of the normal jet. The wall effects appear in the downstream of about 0.85 H to the impinging wall for every case of wall positions in both nozzles.

  • A theoretical study for the laminar round jet diffusion flame impinging on the wall was carried out to predict the characteristics and structure of impinging jet flame and heat transfer to the wall. Finite chemistry via Arrhenius equation was adopted as the combustion model. All the transport properties were considered as the variable depending on the temperature and composition. For the parametric study, the distance from nozzle to perpendicular wall and Reynolds number at nozzle exit were chosen as the major parameters. As the results of the present study, the characteristics of flow field and the distributions of temperature, density and each chemical species were obtained. The heat transfer rate from flame to the wall and the effective heating area were calculated to investigate the influence of the major parameters on the heat transfer characteristics.

  • The problem of the impingement of a sonic or a supersonic jet on a flat surface has not only wide applications but has also interesting and very complex flow phenomena. The main applications of this impinging jet include prediction of solid surface erosion, design of launcher systems, stage separation of multi-stage rocket system, V/STOL operations, thermal spray system, and manufacturing technologies of materials. Much have been learned about the supersonic impinging jet flow field but many fundamental questions have not been answered satisfactorily. The problem encompasses many facets of fluid dynamics which, in combination, present the compressibility effect and the viscous-inviscid interaction, coupled with flow separation and reattachment. What is more, there are many flow parameters that have on the impinging jet flow field, for example, Mach number, Reynolds number, pressure ratio, distance between the nozzle exit and flat plate, jet shock structure, nozzle diameter and etc. Thus the existing data on the supersonic impinging jet flow present considerable disagreement in which quantitative comparison between one result and another is often impossible.
