Characteristics of breakup of a liquid droplet impinging on a hot surface has been investigated experimentally by using decane fuel. Factors influencing droplet breakup are surface temperature, impinging velocity, droplet diameter and incident angle. Droplets impinging on a hot surface begins to breakup at $220{\sim}235^{\circ}C$. This temperature varies with impinging Velocity, droplet diameter and incident angle. For wall temperature of $220{\sim}245^{\circ}C$ and above $270^{\circ}C$, breakup probability increases as impinging velocity increases showing S shape curve. For $245{\sim}265^{\circ}C$, a local minimum heat transfer rate occurs. In this temperature range, breakup probability shows nonmonotonous behavior as functions of impinging velocity. As droplet diameter decreases, impinging velocity required for droplet breakup increases. An optimum impinging angle for droplet breakup exists which are found to be about $75^{\circ}$.
To find suitable injection pressure, ultra high pressure impinging spray characteristics were investigated with a impinging distance and a impinging angle by using high pressure injection system. As impinging distance was increased, spray penetration was decreased but spray height was increased. For increase of injection pressure, spray penetration and spray height were increased until 2,500bar. But over this injection pressure region, the rate of increase was decreased suddenly.
This study addresses the behavior characteristics of diesel spray injected on the impinging disk with the room temperature. The models of impinging spray are the stick, the reflect and the wall jet model In the initiative of the fuel injection the impinging spray was the reflect model. because the momentum of droplets was very large. This model developed to the wall jet model according to the time approaches. On the low temperature disk the fuel film was made by the attachment of the droplets with low Weber number. The thickness of impinging spray was increased when the disk approached to the nozzle tip. Mathematical analysis for calculation with the behavior of impinging spray have to consider the reflecting effect and the influence of the fuel film.

The objective of this study is to find experimentally the characteristics of the noise generated by the impinging jet on the normal plate, and also to compare the noise characteristics of the impinging jet with those of the free jet. The experiment is performed for the measurement of the noise specturm, the noise power, and the directivity for the free and impinging jets. From the experiment. it is found that the power of noises generated by the free jet as well as the impinging jet is proportional to the eighth power of the jet velocity through the circular converging nozzle, and that the noise power of the impinging jet is 15dB as high as one of the free jet when the plate distance is about within one to three times the nozzle diameter at the pressure ratio 1.39. The sound pressure level of the impinging jet depends upon the jet pressure and the plate distance. The plate distance with the maximum overall sound pressure level is increased with the jet pressure. The directivities with 1/3 octave band frequency for both the free jet and the impinging jet are greatly influenced by the convection effect.

The flow characteristics with the impinging angles of defrost nozzle jet inside a commercial vehicle passenger compartment were investigated experimentally by using the two-dimensional duct-nozzle model. The shape of the nozzle contraction was designed according to the curved line of cubic equation to the vertical plan of the flow direction. The impinging angles, defined as the angle between nozzle axis and a vertical line to the windshield, were varied from the $0^{\circ}\;to\;80^{\circ}$. The mean velocity distributions, the half-widths, and the momentum distributions with the cases of both the free jet and the impinging jet onto the dummy windshield were measured. The impinging jet flows similarly with wall jet from $X/b_o=20$, and the impinging angle has an effect on the half-width of the impinging jet. The momentum distributions onto the windshield increased with the increase of impinging angle, and then their inflection point was observed around the impinging angle of $60^{\circ}$.
In this paper, we present that now and heat transfer characteristics of oscillatory impinging jet which have been numerically investigated using parallel computations. Numerical value were obtained for dimensionless distance H=4, dimensionless outlet length L=45 and Reynolds number Re= 1500. It was found that the oscillatory impinging jet generated the regular heat transfer area even though the maximum heat transfer is lower than nonoscillatory impinging jet. We also found that heat transfer depends on the period of nozzle for the oscillatory impinging jet.
Experimental study is conducted to investigate the cooling performance of impinging jet from microtube using Joule-Thomson effect to apply practical applications. And also the heat transfer characteristics of a impinging jet itself and the impinging jet with Joule-Thomson effect are tested to make a comparative study of the two different general ideas. For this propose, two kinds of copper microtubes which have 200 tim and 300 tim in inner diameter respectively were tested and $N_2$ was used as a working fluid. In case of impinging jet without Joule-Thomson effect, heat transfer coefficients distributions were similar to those of normal impinging jet. But in impinging jet with Joule-Thomson effect, the heat transfer coefficients decrease as jet-to-surface increases contrary to the case of the normal jet. As a result, much higher heat transfer coefficients are obtained with Joule-Thomson effect than those of the normal jet without J-T effect.
Flow and noise analyses are conducted for examining a new design concept of impinging jet electronics cooling, and the analysis results are compared with conventional electronics cooling techniques. For the application of impinging jet electronics cooling method, the present study considers the air duct where air is supplied by axial fan and air flow from the duct is impinged vertically onto the electronic component heat source. Applying CFD simulation technique and fan noise model to the present cooling scheme, the cooling performance of the impinging jet as well as the operation condition and the noise characteristics of fan are investigated for various impinging jet nozzle conditions and fan models. Furthermore, the impinging jet electronics cooling analysis results are compared with the conventional parallel-flow cooling scheme to give the design concept and criteria of impinging jet cooling method.
An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of syngas/air mixture impinging jet flame with 10% hydrogen content. Effects of impinging distance, Reynolds number as major parameters on surface temperature of stagnation point were examined experimentally by the data acquisitions from k-type thermocouple. There were 2 times of maximum peak point of stagnation point with respect to the impinging distance for the investigation. As reynolds number increases, the nusselt number and convective heat transfer coefficient increased accordingly.

An experimental study has been performed to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of impinging jets with corrugated nozzle and wake generation plate. Three different shapes of corrugated nozzle and five different shapes of wake generation plate were tested to improve the heat transfer characteristics of impinging jet. Heat transfer coefficients were obtained by using transient method based on the liquid crystal thermography. The effects of corrugated nozzle and wake generation plate on the heat transfer characteristics of impinging jets were discussed in detail. The results showed that both the corrugated nozzle and the wake generation plate improved the heat transfer characteristics of impinging jet. Especially, heat transfer coefficients around stagnation region of impinging jets were highly increased.
