We report high work function Aluminum doped zinc oxide (AZO) films as insertion layer as a function of O2 flow rate between transparent conducting oxides (TCO) and hydrogenated amorphous silicon oxide (a-SiOx:H) layer to improve open circuit voltage (Voc) and fill factor (FF) for high efficiency thin film solar cell. However, amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) solar cells exhibit poor fill factors due to a Schottky barrier like impedance at the interface between a-SiOx:H windows and TCO. The impedance is caused by an increasing mismatch between the work function of TCO and that of p-type a-SiOx:H. In this study, we report on the silicon thin film solar cell by using as insertion layer of O2 reactive AZO films between TCO and p-type a-SiOx:H. Significant efficiency enhancement was demonstrated by using high work-function layers (4.95 eV at O2=2 sccm) for engineering the work function at the key interfaces to raise FF as well as Voc. Therefore, we can be obtained the conversion efficiency of 7 % at 13mA/cm2 of the current density (Jsc) and 63.35 % of FF.

Plasma polymerized organic thin films were deposited on Si(100) glass and Copper substrates at 25 ∼ 100 $^{\circ}C$ using cyclohexane and ethylcyclohexane precursors by PECVD method. In order to compare physical and electrochemical properties of the as-grown thin films, the effects of the RF plasma power in the range of 20∼50 W and deposition temperature on both corrosion protection efficiency and physical properties were studied. We found that the corrosion protection efficiency (P$\_$k/), which is one of the important factors for corrosion protection in the interlayer dielectrics of microelectronic devices application, was increased with increasing RF power. The highest P$\_$k/ value of plasma polymerized ethylcyclohexane film (92.1% at 50 W) was higher than that of the plasma polymerized cyclohexane film (85.26% at 50 W), indicating inhibition of oxygen reduction. Impedance analyzer was utilized for the determination of I-V curve for leakage current density and C-V for dielectric constants. To obtain C-V curve, we used a MIM structure of metal(Al)-insulator(plasma polymerized thin film)-metal(Pt) structure. Al as the electrode was evaporated on the ethylcyclohexane films that grew on Pt coated silicon substrates, and the dielectric constants of the as-grown films were then calculated from C-V data measured at 1㎒. From the electrical property measurements such as I-V ana C-V characteristics, the minimum dielectric constant and the best leakage current of ethylcyclohexane thin films were obtained to be about 3.11 and 5 ${\times}$ 10$\^$-12/ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and cyclohexane thin films were obtained to be about 2.3 and 8 ${\times}$ 10$\^$-12/ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
Electrochemical oxidation of silicon (p-type Si(100)) at room temperature in ethylene glycol and in aqueous solutions has been performed by applying constant low current densities for the preparation of thin SiO2 layers. In-situ ac impedance spectroscopic methods have been employed to characterize the interfaces of electrolyte/oxide/semiconductor and to estimate the thickness of the oxide layer. The thicknesses of SiO2 layers calculated from the capacitive impedance were in the range of 25-100Å depending on the experimental conditions. The anodic polarization resistance parallel with the oxide layer capacitance increased continuously to a very large value in ethylene glycol solution. However, it decreased above 4 V in aqueous solutions, where oxygen evolved through the oxidation of water. Interstitially dissolved oxygen molecules in SiO2 layer at above the oxygen evolution potential were expected to facilitate the formation of SiO2 at the interfaces. Thin SiO2 films grew efficiently at a controlled rate during the application of low anodization currents in aqueous solutions.
Incorporation of solid electrodes frequently involves plasma-based processing. The effect of plasma can influence the physical characteristics, depending on the magnitude in plasma. The undesired feature of plasma-induced damage should be prevented in characterizing the ultra-thin materials, such as ultra-thin films and organic monolayers. The current work at first proves the applicability of a liquid phase electrode in the electrical/dielectric properties through comparative work using Al and Hg on ultrathin $Al_2O_3$ films deposited through atomic layer deposition at low temperature: Two types of metals such as Aluminum (Al) and mercury (Hg) were used as electrodes in $Al_2O_3$ thin films in order to investigate the effect of electrode preparation on the current-voltage characteristics and impedance features as a function of thickness in $Al_2O_3$ film thickness. The success of Hg in $Al_2O_3$ thin films is applied to the AC and DC characterization of the organic monolayers obtained using the Langmuir-Blodgett method. From the DC current-voltage characteristics, the diode-like response is found to originate from the bulk response of the organic materials, evidenced by the fact and the capacitance is inversely related to the absolute thickness of organic layers.
Capacitors among the embedded passive components are most widely studied because they are the major components in terms of size and number and hard to embed compared with resistors and inductors due to the more complicated structure. To fabricate a capacitor-embedded PCB for in-line process, it is essential to adopt a low temperature process (<$200^{\circ}C$). However, high dielectric materials such as ferroelectrics show a low permittivity and a high dielectric loss when they are processed at low temperatures. To solve these contradicting problems, we studied BMN materials as a candidate for dielectric capacitors. processed at PCB-compatible temperatures. The morphologies of BMN thin films were investigated by AFM and SEM equipment. The electric properties (C-F, I-V) of Pt/BMN/Cu/polymer were evaluated using an impedance analysis (HP 4194A) and semiconductor parameter analyzer (HP4156A). $Bi_2Mg_{2/3}Nb_{4/3}O_7$(BMN) thin films deposited on copper clad laminate substrates by sputtering system as a function of Ar/$O_2$ flow rate at room temperature showed smooth surface morphologies having root mean square roughness of approximately 5.0 nm. 200-nm-thick films deposited at RT exhibit a dielectric constant of 40, a capacitance density of approximately $150\;nF/cm^2$, and breakdown voltage above 6 V. The crystallinity of the BMN thin films was studied by TEM and XRD. BMN thin film capacitors are expected to be promising candidates as embedded capacitors for printed circuit board (PCB).

Zn-Sn-O (Zinc-Tin-Oxide; ZTO) thin films have been gaining extensive academic and industrial attentions owing to a semiconducting channel materials applicable to large-sized flat-panel displays. Due to the constituent oxides i.e., ZnO and SnO2, the resultant Zn-Sn-O thin films possess artificially controllable bandgaps and transmittances especially effective in the visible regime. The current approach employed RF sputtering in depositing the Zn-Sn-O thin films onto glass substrates at ambient conditions. This work places its main emphases on the electrical/optical features which are closely related to the combinations of processing variables. The electrical characterizations are performed using dc-based current-voltage characteristics and ac-based impedance spectroscopy. The optical constants, i.e., refractive index and extinction coefficient, are calculated through spectroscopic ellipsometry along with the estimation of bandgaps. The charge transport of the deposited ZTO thin films is based on electrons characteristic of n-type conduction. In addition to the basic electrical/optical information, the delicate manipulation of n-type conduction is indispensible in diversifying the industrial applications of the ZTO thin films as active devices in information and energy products. Ultimately, the electrical properties are correlated to the processing variables along with the underlying mechanism which largely determines the electrical and optical properties.
MI(Magneto-Impedance) sensor which is made by thin films has significantly high detecting sensitivity in weak magnetic field. It also has a merit to be able to build in low power system. Its structure is simple, which makes it easier to prepare a miniature. In this study, its magnetic permeability and anisotropy field(H$\sub$k/) as a function of a thickness of sputtered amorphous CoZrNb thin film with high saturation magnetostriction and excellent soft magnetic property are investigated. In order to make a uniaxial anisotropy, thin film was subjected to post annealing with a static magnetic field with 1KOe intensity at 250, 300, and 320$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hour. Anisotropy field(H$\sub$k/)of thin film is measured by using MH loop tracer. Its magnetic permeability of thin film is measured over the frequency range from 1 MHz to 750MHz. It has shown that the magnetic permeability of amorphous CoZrNb thin film is decreased due to the skin effect with increasing a thickness of CoZrNb thin film, and hence its driving frequency is lowered.

Its structure is simple, which makes it easier to prepare a miniature. In this study, its magnetic permeability and anisotropy field($H_{k}$) as a function of a thickness of sputtered amorphous CoZrNb films with zero-magnetostriction and soft magnetic property are investigated. And, it was examined on the permeability and impedance to design the MI sensor which acts at 50MHz by thickening a CoZrNb film relatively, and fabricated the MI sensor which acts at the 50MHz.

$BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ and $PbTiO_3/PbZrO_3$ superlattice thin films were fabricated on $Pt/Ti/SiO_2/Si$ substrate by the pulsed laser deposition process. The morphologies and physical properties of deposited films were characterized by using X-ray diffractometer, HR-SEM, and Impedance Analyzer. XRD data and SEM images of the films indicate that each layer was well deposited alternatively in the superlattice structure. The dielectric constant of $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ superlattice thin film was higher than that of individual $BaTiO_3$ or $SrTiO_3$ film. Same result was obtained in the $PbTiO_3/PbZrO_3$system. The dielectric constant of a superlattice film was getting higher as the number of layer is increased.
The barium strontium titannate ((Ba,Sr)TiO$_3$:BST) thin films were etched in an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) as a function of CF$_4$/Ar gas mixing ratio. Under CF$_4$(20%)/Ar(80%), the maximum etch rate of the BST films was 400 $\AA$/min. Etching products were redeposited on the surface of BST and then the nature of crystallinity were varied. Therefore, we investigated the etched surface of BST by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The plasma damages were evaluated in terms of leakage current density by Agilent 4145C and dielectric constant by HP 4192 impedance analyzer. After the BST thin films exposed in the plasma, the leakage current density and roughness increases. After annealing at 600 $^{\circ}C$ for 10 min in $O_2$ ambient, the leakage current density, roughness and nonvolatile etch byproducts reduced. From this results, the plasma induced damages were recovered by annealing process owing to the relaxation of lattice mismatches by Ar ions and the desorption of metal fluorides in high temperature.
