  • Korean folk medicine 'Mul Bong Seon' has been used to cure hypertension and a toxicide. The botanical origin of the crude drug has been no pharmacognostical confirmation on it. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Mul Bong Seon', the morphologial and anatomical characteristics of the leaves of Impatiens species growing in Korea, i.e. I. balsamina, I. noli-tangere, I. textori, I. textori forma. pallescens were studied. As a result, it was clarified that 'Mul Bong Seon' was the leaf of Impatiens textori and Impatiens textori forma. pallescens.

  • Impatiens textori Miquel (Balsaminaceae) is an annual plant growing in most parts of Korea. The herb of this plant has been used for the external application of snake poison and the bruise. Previous investigations conducted with the herbs have demonstrated it to contain three flavones and three flavone glycosides. Continuing to previous reports, quercetin, kaempferol and acacetin $7-O-{\beta}-D-glucoside$ were isolated from the herbs of this plant.

  • Four flavonoids were isolated from the ether and ethylacetate extracts of Impatiens textori Miquel(Balsaminaceae). The structures were elucidated as luteolin(I), apigenin(II), chrysoeriol(III), and chrysoeriol 7-glucoside(IV) by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. These compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time.

  • Over the past 15 years, downy mildew became the most destructive foliar disease in cultivated Impatiens species (Balsaminaceae) worldwide. A previous study had revealed that the causal agent was not Plasmopara obducens (Oomycota, Peronosporales) but Plasmopara destructor on Impatiens walleriana, and Plasmopara velutina on Impatiens balsamina. This hints to a relatively high degree of specialization of Plasmopara on Balsaminaceae. Therefore, it was the aim of the present study to perform multigene phylogenetic analysis and detailed morphological investigation for several Korean downy mildew samples parasitic to cultivated I. walleriana, and I. balsamina, but also to a northeast Asian wild plant, Impatiens textori. It was revealed that I. textori harbors a new species, which is introduced and described here as Plasmopara elegantissima.

  • The Herbal Vegetation on Running Waterside in the Main Stream of Genmho River, Daegu and Gyeongsanbuk-do, Korea was investigated by the methodology from June to August of 1994 and analyzed distribution characteristics of vegetation that was related Water Environment. The vegetation is divided into 6 communities of Persicaria sieboldi-Persicaria hydropiper community, Persicaria thunbergii community, Impatiens textori community, Zizania latifoloa community, Phragmites communis community and Echinochloa crus-galli var. oryzicola community. A BOD and COD that indicate degree of contamination in water were showed 0.9 ppm and 1.6 ppm at upstream and 15.9 ppm and 24.8 ppm at downstream, respectively. The distribution patterns of vegetation have dominated by Impatiens textoricommunity in the upstream, by Persicaria sieboldi-Persicaria hydropiper community from upstream to mid-upstream, by Persicaria thunbergii community from upstream to midstream, by Zizania latifoloa community from nidstream to mid-downstream and by Phragmites communis community and Echinochloa crus-galli var. oryzicola community from mid-downstream to downstream. Especially, I suggested that Persicaria sieboldi-Persicaria hydropiper community and Persicaria thunbergii community will use as biotic indicator in water environment.

  • In this study we examined the concerned literature for clinical use of Balsaminaceae plants focusing on the latest literature "zhong hua ben cao"(chinese materia medica, 1998). The findings were summarized as follows: 1. As an original plant, 27 species have been reviewed. 2. As a result of investigating oriental drug names by medicinal using part, a survey reported that the total of 22 species of oriental drug names, including 14 species of herba, 3 species of flos, 4 species of radix and rhizoma, and 1 species of semen, are being used for clinical use. 3. When we examined oriental drugs with five flavors by calculating and arranging their nature, effect, toxicity with points for conveniences sake, pungent and bitte showed 13 points, respectively, as main flavors. In drug nature, warm property of drug indicated 10 points and cold property of drug obtained 6 points. But as for other oriental drug, it is thought that we can recognize their significance. 4. With respect to efficacy, activating blood drug reached 10 kinds and wind- damp-dispelling 7 kinds, according to the examination. 5. In the examination on components and medicinal action, we examined that components are recorded in only impatiens balsamina's whole grass, flowers, root, root stems, and seeds, and Impatiens noli-tangere's whole grass. In medical action, we found out that the components are recorded in impatiens balsamina' flowers and seeds; impatiens noli-tangere's whole grass and flowers; and Impatiens textori' whole grass. 6. As a result of examining clinical prescription, the total of 84 kinds of clinical prescriptions by disease nature were examined, of which the prescription of Impatiens balsamina showed 19 cases in total, which was remarkable.
