Wind power generation has been viewed as a promising renewable energy to meet challenge of climate change. However, wind power is susceptible to climate change because previous investigation shows there are declining trends of the land surface wind speeds over middle and lower latitudes. Since long term variation trends is notably different from inter-annual random variation and could have notable impact on wind farm from planning perspective, observed meteorological data of Taiwan is investigated to find out long term variation trends of wind speed and its impact on wind power generation. It is discovered that wind speed in majority of stations in west coast of Taiwan have ascending trends while that of all investigated stations in east coast have descending trends. Since east of Taiwan is not suitable for wind power development for its higher likelihood suffering Typhoons and most of established wind farm locate in west coast of Taiwan, it is speculated that long term variation trend of wind do not have notable negative impact on wind power generation in Taiwan.
Many household appliances, including vacuum cleaners, are being subjected to various of impact damages, and made of plastic. However, researches on the damage of appliances materials by repetitive impacts have been rarely conducted. the mechanical stress exerted upon impact-modified polycarbonate (PC) has a great influence not only on the quality of the product but also on the life span. The purpose of this research was to quantify the effects of repetitive impact on the polycarbonate. Second, it was to design the repetitive impact tester for controlling the impact energy. The mechanical properties of tensile strength, yielding stress and strain on the specimens subjected to cyclic impacts were discussed. Tensile strength was sharply declined at the beginning of the impact cycles, while the strain gradually decreased during impact cycles.

In this paper, we investigate the impact of channel estimation error on the D2D power control algorithm. In the previous work, D2D power control algorithm has been proposed under the assumption that the channel between the transmitter and the corresponding receiver is perfectly estimated. In reality, the channel estimation error is more often the case. The first question is that the power control algorithm designed for perfect channel estimation is still valid under the channel estimation error environment ? The second question is, if it is not valid, what could be the possible remedy for the channel estimation error ? In this paper, to answer the first question, we investigate the impact of the channel estimation error on the power control algorithm. We first review the D2D power control algorithm designed for perfect channel estimation. Then, we model the channel estimation error. Finally, we summarize the main results observed from the analysis of the simulation.

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with capability of being recharged from the power-grid will reduce oil consumption. Also, the PHEV will affect the utility operations by adding additional electricity demand for charging. In this research, the power-grid impact by demand of PHEV charging is presented and the optimal charging control strategy for utility operators is proposed with simulated data. The penetration of PHEV is assumed to be 50% in the circumstances of Korean passenger car market and Korean power-grid market limitedly. To obtain smooth load shape and utilize the surplus electricity in power-grid at midnight and dawn, the peak of charging demand should be controlled to be located before 4:00 a.m., and the time slot which can supply the electricity power to PHEV should be allowed between 1:00 a.m.$\sim$7:00 a.m.
This paper presents a study the change of the load profile on the power system by the charging impact of electric vehicles (EVs) in 2020. The impact of charging EVs on the load demand is determined not only by the number of EVs in usage pattern, but also by the number of EVs being charged at once. The charging load is determined on an hourly basis using the number of the EVs based on different scenarios considering battery size, model, the use of vehicles, charging at home or work, and the method of charging, which is either fast or slow. Focusing on the impact of future load profile in Korea with EVs reaching up 10 and 20 percentage, increased power demand by EVs charging is analyzed. Also, this paper analyzes the impact of a time-of-use (TOU) tariff system on the charging of EVs in Korea. The results demonstrate how the penetration of EVs increases the load profile and decreases charging demand by TOU tariff system on the future power system.
With the concern of the potential problems which can be observed in terms of the power supply of renewable energies, we need to analyze the impact of additional power generation capacities of renewable energy sources on peak load. Each renewable energy sources are dependent upon wind speed, solar radiation, head differences caused by lunar calendar. Considering that these exogenous renewable energy sources follow their own stochastic distributions, we analyze the probability distribution of the impact of each renewable energy power supply on peak load. As a conclusion, we note that traditional tools used for the analysis of power supply such as capacity factors are no longer appropriate for the analysis of renewable energy sources in that perspective.
Global warming has pressured companies to put a greater emphasis on environment management which allows them to reduce environmental impact and costs of their operations. In Korea, the coal-fired power plants take a large account of electricity generation at 31.7% of the total electricity usage in 2014. Thus, environmental impact of coal-fired power plants is significant. This paper illustrated how to compute environmental impact and costs in electricity generation at a coal-fired power plant using MFCA methodology. Compared to the traditional accounting, an advantage of MFCA is to provide information on electricity generation costs and environmental wastes incurring throughout the production process of electricity. Based on MFCA, the coal-fired power plant was able to reduce production cost of electricity by 52.3%, and environmental wastes by 47.7%. As a result, MFCA seemed to be an effective tool in environmental management for power plants.

Automatic reclosing is a typical protection method in power distribution systems for the clearing of temporary faults. However, it has a fatal weakness in regards to voltage sags because it produces repetitive voltage sags. In this paper, we explored the repetitive impact of voltage sag due to the automatic reclosing of power distribution systems. The actual tests of low voltage loads were carried out for obtaining the susceptibility of voltage sags. The final results of the tests yielded power acceptability curves of voltage sag, and the curves transformed the 3-dimensional CBEMA (Computer Business Equipment Manufacturer Association) format. For the quantitative evaluation of the impact of repetitive voltage sags, an assessment formulation using the voltage sag contour was proposed. The proposed formulation was tested by using the voltage sag contour data of IEEE standard and the results of the test. Through the case studies, we verified that the proposed method can be effectively used to evaluate the actual impact of repetitive voltage sags.

Recently wind energy penetration into power systems has increased. Wind power, as a renewable energy source, plays a different role in the power system compared to conventional power generation units. As long as only single and small wind power units are installed in the power system, wind power does not influence power system operation and can easily be integrated. However, when wind power penetration reaches a significantly high level and conventional power production units are substituted, the impact of wind power on the power system becomes noticeable and must be handled. The connection of large wind turbines and wind farms to the grid has a large impact on grid stability. The electrical power system becomes more vulnerable to and dependent on wind energy production, and therefore there is an increased concern about the large wind turbines impact on grid stability. In this work, a new type of fuzzy logic controller for the frequency control of wind farms is proposed and its performance is verified using SimWindFarm toolbox which was developed as part of the Aeolus FP7 project.

With the advent of distributed generation, power systems are fundamentally impacted in regards to stability and power quality. Distributed generation has a positive impact on system restoration following a fault, higher reliability, and mitigation of effect due to voltage sag. However, distributed generation also has a negative impact on decrease of reliability such as changes of protective device setting and mal-operation. Because bulk power systems consist of various sources and loads, it becomes complicated to analyze a power system with distributed generation. The types of distributed generation are usually classified by both rotating machinery and the inverter-based system. In this paper, distributed generation is designed by rotating machinery, and the distributed system having a model of the distributed generation is simulated using EMTP. In addition, this paper presents the simulation results according to the types of distributed generation.
