  • Recently, various AR-based product design methodologies have been introduced. In this paper, we propose technologies for enhancing robust augmentation and immersive realization of virtual objects. A robust augmentation technology is developed for various lighting conditions and a partial solution is proposed for the hand occlusion problem that occurs when the virtual objects overlay the user' hands. It provides more immersive or natural images to the users. Finally, vibratory haptic cues by page motors as well as button clicking force feedback by modulating pneumatic pressures are proposed while interacting with virtual widgets. Also our system reduces gabs between modeling spaces and user spaces. An immersive game-phone model is selected to demonstrate that the users can control the direction of the car in the racing game by tilting a tangible object with the proposed augmented haptic and robust non-occluded visual feedback. The proposed methodologies will be contributed to the immersive realization of the conventional AR system.

  • This study introduces a prototype for a virtual zoo initiative, aimed at optimizing resource utilization and minimizing animal displacement from their natural habitats. The prototype features a thoughtfully developed three-dimensional representation of an emperor penguin, with animations designed to emulate real-life behaviors. An investigation into file format distinctions for scientific research, encompassing Wavefront(OBJ), Collada(DAE), and Filmbox(FBX) formats, was conducted. The research utilized the Hololens 2 device for visualization, Unity for environment development, Blender for modeling, and C# for programming, with deployment facilitated through Visual Studio 2019 and the Mixed Reality Toolkit. Empirical examination revealed the OBJ format's suitability for simple geometric shapes, while DAE and FBX formats were preferred for intricate models and animations. DAE files offer detailed preservation of object structure and animations albeit with larger file sizes, whereas FBX files provide compactness but may face scalability constraints due to extensive data integration. This investigation underscores the potential of virtual zoos for conservation and education, advocating for further exploration and context-specific implementation.

  • Metaverse is an immersive 3D virtual environment, a true virtual artificial community in which avatars act as the user's alter ego and interact with each other. If we do not manage the hype for the metaverse, which has recently been receiving a surge in interest, the metaverse will fail to cross the chasm. In this study, to provide stakeholders with insights for the successful introduction and growth of the 3D immersive next-generation virtual world, metaverse, we analyzed user-side interest, media-side interest, and research-side interest. For this purpose, in this study, search traffic, news frequency and topic, and research article frequency and topic were analyzed. The methodology and results of this study are expected to provide insight for the stable success of metaverse transformation and the coexistence of the real world and the virtual world through hyper-connection and hyper-convergence.

  • Games are widely used in many fields, but not all games are successful. Then what makes games successful? The question gave us the motivation of this paper, which is to identify critical factors for successful games with topic modeling technique. It is supposed that game reviews written by experts sit on abundant insights and topics of how games succeed. To excavate these insights and topics, latent Dirichlet allocation, a topic modeling analysis technique, was used. This statistical approach provided words that implicate topics behind them. Fifty topics were inferred based on these words, and these topics were categorized by stimulation-response-desiregoal (SRDG) model, which makes a streamlined flow of how players engage in video games. This approach can provide game designers with critical factors for successful games. Furthermore, from this research result, we are going to develop a model for immersive game experiences to explain why some games are more addictive than others and how successful gamification works.

  • In this paper, we describe a haptic jacket and wheel as a haptic interface to enhance VR game realism. Building upon the VR game system using this devices, our haptic interface technique allows the user to intuitive interact on game contents, and then to sense the game event properties such as walking, attacking, driving and fire in a natural way. In addition, we extended the initial haptic model to support haptic decoration and dynamic interactions due to the added game event in a real time display. An application example presented here is a VR Dino-Attack game. This game supports interactions among dynamic and our intuitive haptic interface. Modeling physic interactions involves precise collision detection, real-time force computation, and high control-loop bandwidth.

  • The augmented visualization of analysis results can play an import role as a post-processing tool for the modeling & simulation (M&S) technology. In particular, it is essential to develop such an M&S tool which can run on various multi-devices. This paper presents an augmented reality (AR) approach to visualizing and interacting with M&S post-processing results through mobile devices. The proposed approach imports M&S data, extracts analysis information, and converts the extracted information into the one used for AR-based visualization. Finally, the result can be displayed on the mobile device through an AR marker tracking and a shader-based realistic rendering. In particular, the proposed method can superimpose AR-based realistic scenes onto physical objects such as 3D printing-based physical prototypes in a seamless manner, which can provide more immersive visualization and natural interaction of M&S results than conventional VR or AR-based approaches. A user study has been performed to analyze the qualitative usability. Implementation results will also be given to show the advantage and effectiveness of the proposed approach.
