Ocean dumping manure was prohibited in Korea until the end of 2012. Undumped manure was treated by resourcification, purification, and public process in a facility. But poor storage of untreated manure and overproduced compost can pollute river water. In this study, linear regression, Mann-Kendall, Seasonal Mann-Kendall, LOWESS trend, and Spearman's correlation analysis were conducted for investigating the changes in the water quality of Bukhan and Imjin river before and after the prohibition of ocean dumping. In 2017, the Imjin Riv er basin had more than 5.7 times liv estock breeding heads than the Bukhan Riv er basin and more than 3.5 times livestock manure. The areas of land, farmland, and nutrient balance were also higher in the Imjin River basin. Since the two basins have different environments, it is expected that the characteristics of changes in water quality due to the increase in livestock manure generation and treatment methods will be different when comparing the water quality trends before and after the ban. The result of the trend analysis revealed a decrease in EC before the ban but an increase afterward. T-N and BOD of Imjin river increased slightly before the ban but demonstrated great enhancement thereafter. Other sites and T-P exhibited no trend. The correlation analysis result showed that the increase in the number of livestock rearing was correlated with the increase in T-P of Bukhan River and BOD of Imjin River. The increase in livestock manure production was not correlated with the Imjin River basin, while a correlation was observed with the Bukhan River with an increase in T-N and EC and the decrease in T-P.

This study is to analyze the causes of flood damage in Imjin river basin inAugust , 1999. and to propose the measure to reudce such flood damage. The northern part of Kyonggin Province in the basin was severely damaged by flood due to the heavy rainfall for 4 days from 31 July to 3 August, whioch was recordedas 1,032mm. The heavy rainfall worth recording was one of main cuasese of such damage, but unsuitable river improvement and basin management were also important causes. The flood proptection works such as flood control reservoir and riverlevee were not contructed or sufficient in spite of the unflavorable geographical conditions of Imjin reiver. In case of irrigatiion faciliteis, 43 pumping stations in 3 FIAs were severely damaged due to inundation of the pump and switch boxes. The protection works for pump room should be improved to reduce the damage due to inundation.
2/3 of the Imjin River Basin area is located in North Korea, so it was hard to acquire reliable rainfall and hydrological information. This point is one of the factors that has added to flood damage. In this study, flood runoff for the river basin was simulated using hydrological radar, which is installed in an effort to reduce flood damage in the Imjin River Basin, which habitually suffers from flood damage. The feasibility of the distributed flood model was reviewed for the river basin, which is lacking in hydrological data such as rainfall and recent soil data. Based on the hydrograph, observed value was not consistent partially because of insufficient data, but peak discharge and the overall pattern showed relatively precise runoff results which can be applied in actual work.

The temporal and spatial relationship of the weather elements such as rainfall and temperature is closely linked to the streamflow simulation, especially, to the flood forecasting problems. For the study area, Imjin river basin, which has the specific characteristics in geography with river cross operation between North and South Korea, the meteorological information in the northern area is totally deficiency, lead to the inaccuracy of streamflow estimation. In the paper, this problem is solved by using the combination of global (such as soil moisture content, land use) and local hydrologic components data such as weather data (precipitation, evapotranspiration, humidity, etc.) for the model-driven runoff (surface flow, lateral flow and groundwater flow) data in each subbasin. To compute the streamflow in Imjin river basin, this study is applied the hydrologic model SURR (Sejong Univ. Rainfall-Runoff) which is the continuous rainfall-runoff model used physical foundations, originally based on Storage Function Model (SFM) to simulate the intercourse of the soil properties, weather factors and flow value. The result indicates the spatial variation in the runoff response of the different subbasins influenced by the input data. The dependancy of runoff simulation accuracy depending on the qualities of input data and model parameters is suggested in this study. The southern region with the dense of gauges and the adequate data shows the good results of the simulated discharge. Eventually, the application of SURR model in Imjin riverbasin gives the accurate consequence in simulation, and become the subsequent runoff for prediction in the future process.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate storm runoff models of Imjin river basin(8,117.5$km^2$) for the provision of radar rainfall situation. Two lumped models, Storage Function Model(SFM) and HEC-1 model which are now in use broadly and prov
This Study deals with the comparative analysis on the estimation of surface soil erosion volume between South and North Korea using RUSLE model in Imjin River basin located on DMZ of Central Korea. Comparatively North Korea areas have been more eroded three times as much as South Korea parts. Because of cropland development such as com Held in the hillslope, in North Korea, more surface soil erosion and transportation to the river bed has given rise to frequent flood hazards. It seems that the study can dedicate to mitigation of environmental problems such as soil erosion and flooding in unaccessible Imjin River basin located on DMZ.

In the study, the water quality of the Imjin River basin with pollutants of changing characteristics it was determined through statistical analysis, correlation analysis, principle component and factor analysis, and cluster analysis. Among all analyzed data points, the average water quality concentration at the Sincheon 3 site shows high levels of BOD 13.4 mg/L, COD 19.9 mg/L, T-N 11.145 mg/L, T-P 0.336 mg/L, TOC 14.2 mg/L, indicating that Sincheon basin requires intersive water quality management out of the entire drainage basin. The correlational analysis of comprehensive water quality data shows statistically significant correlation between COD, TOC, BOD, T-N water quality factors, as well as finding of high correlation between organic and nutrients. The principal component analysis show that 2 main components being extracted at 81.221% from the measuring station's entire data, while seasonal data show 3 main components being extracted at 96.241%. Factor analysis of the entire data set and the seasonal data identify BOD, COD, T-N, T-P, TOC as the common factors influencing water quality. The spatial and temporal cluster analysis showed 4 groups and 3 groups, respectively, according to seasonal characteristics and land use. By analysing the water quality factors for the Imjin River basins over an 8 year period, with consideration to the spatial and temporal characteristics, this study will become the fundamental analytic data that will help understand the future changes of water quality in the Imjin River basin.
This April 5th dam and Hwanggang dam, which are located in Imjin river, North Korea, become the main causes of water shortages and damages in Imjin river downstream. April 5th dam is assumed a small or medium-sized dam, its total storage volume reaches about 88 million $m^3$. And Hwanggang dam, multi-purposed dam of total storage volume approximately 0.3 billion $m^3$ to 0.4 billion $m^3$ is used as source of residental or industrial water in Gaeseong Industrial Complex. North Korea, which has April 5th dam and Hwanggang dam in Imjin river, manages water of approximately 0.39 billion $m^3$ to 0.49 billion $m^3$ directly. As water is storaged or discharged through dam, it causes a severe damage to areas in Yeoncheon-gun and Paju city, South Korea. Therefore, this study intends to analyze and estimate runoff through dam construction by using hydrological observation data and artificial data such as service water supply and agricultural water in Imjin river, water shortage and damage correctly.
Estimation of the mean-field bias of radar rainfall is to determine the difference between the areal means of radar and rain gauge rainfall, where the rain gauge rainfall is assumed to be the truth. To exactly determine this bias, the variance of the difference between two observations must be small enough, thus, enough number of observations is indispensible. So, the problem becomes to determine the number of rain gauges to satisfy the level of variance of the difference between two observations. Especially, this study focuses on the case when the rain gauges are disproportionate spatially. This is the problem for the Ganghwa rain radar for the observation of rainfall within the Imjin river basin and the same problem also occurs when a radar is located in between land and ocean. This study considered the Imjin river basin, and compared two cases when rain gauges are available only within the downstream part, about one third of the whole basin, and over the whole basin. Based on the results derived, the rain gauge density within the downstream part of the Imjin river basin was proposed to secure the same accuracy obtained when the rain gauges are available over the whole Imjin river basin.

Recently, frequent occurrence of flash floods caused by climactic change has necessitated prompt and quantitative prediction of precipitation. In particular, the usability of rainfall radar that can carry out real-time observation and prediction of precipitation behavior has increased. Moreover, the use of distributed hydrological model that enables grid level analysis has increased for an efficient use of rainfall radar that provides grid data at 1km resolution. The use of distributed hydrologic model necessitates grid-type spatial data about target basins; to enhance reliability of flood runoff simulation, the use of visible and precise data is necessary. In this paper, physically based $Vflo^{TM}$ model and ModClark, a quasi-distributed hydrological model, were used to carry out flood runoff simulation and comparison of simulation results with data from Imjin River Basin, two-third of which is ungauged. The spatial scope of this study was divided into the whole Imjin River basin area, which includes ungauged area, and Imjin River basin area in South Korea for which relatively accurate and visible data are available. Peak flow and lag time outputs from the two simulations of each region were compared to analyze the impact of uncertainty in topographical parameters and soil parameters on flood runoff simulation and to propose effective methods for flood runoff simulation in ungauged regions.
