An Obstacle Avoidance System(OAS) of Underwater Vehicle(UV) in diving and steering plane is investigated. The concept of Imaginary Reference Line(IRL), which acts as the seabed in the diving plane, is introduced to apply the diving plane avoidance algorithm to the steering plane algorithm. Furthermore, the distance to the obstacle and the slope information of the obstacle are used for more efficient and safer avoidance. As for the control algorithm, the sliding mode controller is adopted to consider the nonlinearity of the equations of motion and to get the robustness of the designed system. To verify the obstacle avoidance ability of the designed system, numerical simulations are carried out on the cases of some presumed three-dimensional obstacles. The effects of the sonar and the clearance factor used in avoidance algorithm are also investigated. Through these, it is found that the designed avoidance system can successfully cope with various obstacles and the detection range of sonar is proven to bea significant parameter to the performance of the avoidance.
Purpose: After extraction, the alveolar bone tends to undergo atrophy in three-dimensions. The amount of alveolar bone loss in the horizontal dimension has been reported to be greater than the amount of bone loss in the vertical dimension, and is most pronounced in the buccal aspect. The aim of this study was to monitor the predictive alveolar bone level following the extraction of anterior teeth seriously involved with advanced chronic periodontitis. Methods: This study included 25 patients with advanced chronic periodontitis, whose maxillary anterior teeth had been extracted due to extensive attachment loss more than one year before the study. Periapical radiographs were analyzed to assess the vertical level of alveolar bone surrounding the edentulous area. An imaginary line connecting the mesial and the distal ends of the alveolar crest facing the adjacent tooth was arbitrarily created. Several representative coordinates were established in the horizontal direction, and the vertical distance from the imaginary line to the alveolar crest was measured at each coordinate for each patient using image analysis software. Regression functions predicting the vertical level of the alveolar bone in the maxillary anterior edentulous area were identified for each patient. Results: The regression functions demonstrated a tendency to converge to parabolic shapes. The predicted maximum distance between the imaginary line and the alveolar bone calculated using the regression function was $1.43{\pm}0.65mm$. No significant differences were found between the expected and actual maximum distances. Likewise, the predicted and actual maximum horizontal distances did not show any significant differences. The distance from the alveolar bone crest to the imaginary lines was not influenced by the mesio-distal spans of the edentulous area. Conclusions: After extraction, the vertical level of the alveolar ridge increased to become closer to the reference line connecting the mesial and distal alveolar crests.
This paper deals with the novel control algorithm of single-phase hybrid active power filter for the compensation of harmonic current components in nonlinear R-L load with passive active power filters. To construct two-axes coordinate, an imaginary second phase was made by giving time delay to line current. In this proposed method, the new signal, which was the delayed through the filtering by the phase-delay property of low-pass filter, is used as the secondary phase. Because two phases have different phase, instantaneous calculation of harmonic current is possible. In this paper, a reference voltage is created by multiplying gain of filter by compensation current using the rotating reference frames that synchronizes with source-frequency, not applying to instantaneous reactive power theory which has been used with the existing fixed reference frames. This paper shows the experimental results, which provide a high accuracy and extremely fast response of single-phase hybrid active Bower filter under the operation with the proposed control method.
In the previous studies about prescription of preadjusted appliance, occlusal plane was used as a reference plane for crwon angulation (tip) measurement. But this reference plane is not parallel to the line connecting the facial axis points at which the centers of brackets are positioned (Andrews' plane), due to the curve of Spee. Therefore, we developed a new reference plane unaffected by the curve of Sun and more parallel to the Andrews' plane. It is an imaginary line connecting mesial and distal marginal ridges of each posterior tooth, and we named it 'marginal ridge plane'. In this study, crown angulations of posterior teeth of 29 normal occlusion samples were measured and measurements from both reference planes were compared. Crown angulation measurements measured from occlusal plane were different from crown angulation measurements from marginal ridge plane in the upper and lower 2nd molars (p<0.01), md 1st premolars (p<0.05). These results were analyzed as the crown angulation measurements from occlusal plane were affected by the curve of Spee. Crown angulations should be varied according to the amount of curve of Spee to maintain the continuity of marginal ridges. To solve this problem, determining bracket angulation as the bracket slot is parallel to the marginal ridge plane of each posterior teeth is recommended.
This paper presents a miniaturization design technique of radio frequency identification (RFID) tag antenna operated in 910 MHz band. Miniaturization structure design for a tag antenna is performed by structure application of the folded dipole and meander line. In order to realize the maximum power transmission, imaginary part of a chip impedance and a tag antenna impedance is matched by complex conjugate number. The optimized tag antenna size is $50\;nm\;{\times}\;40\;nm\;{\times}\;1.6\;nm$ and its size is reduced about 62 % comparison with antenna size of reference [4]. The measured results of fabricated tag antenna are confirmed the reasonable agreement with prediction. The read range of the tag antenna with chip observed about 5 m.

Cursive characters are written on an economical principle to reduce the motion of a pen in the limit of distinction between characters. That is, the pen is not lifted up to move for writing a next stroke, the pen is not moved at all, or connected two strokes chance their shapes to a similar and simple shape which is easy to be written. For these reasons, strokes and korean alphabets are not only easy to be changed, but also difficult to be splitted. In this paper, we propose a curvature stroke modeling method for splitting and matching by using a structural primitive. A curvature stroke is defined as a substroke which does not change its curvanture. Input strokes handwritten in a cursive style are splitted into a sequence of curvature strokes by segmenting the points which change the direction of rotation, which occur a sudden change of direction, and which occur an excessive rotation Each reference of korean alphabets is handwritten in a printed style and is saved as a sequence of curvature strikes which is generated by splitting process. And merging process is used to generate various sequences of curvature strikes for matching. Here, it is also considered that imaginary strokes can be written or omitted. By using a curvature stroke as a unit of recognition, redundant splitting points in input characters are effectively reduced and exact matching is possible by generating a reference curvature stroke, which consists of the parts of adjacent two korean alphasbets, even when the connecting points between korean alphabets are not splitted. The results showed 83.6% as recognition rate of the first candidate and 0.99sec./character (CPU clock:66MHz) as processing time.
