  • Wiener filtering method was applied to the dual energy imaging procedure in digital radiography(D.R.). A linear scanning photodiode arrays with 1024 elements(0.6mm H 1.3mm pixel size) were used to obtain chest images in 0.7 sec. For high energy image acquisition, X-ray tube was set at 140KVp, 100mA with a rare-earth phosphor screen. Low energy image was obtained with X-ray tube setting at 70KVp, 150mA. These measured dual energy images are represented in the vector matrix notation as a linear discrete model including the additive random noise. Then, the object images are restored in the minimum mean square error sense using Wiener filtering method in the transformed domain. These restored high and low energy images are used for computation of the basis image decomposition. Then the basis images are linearly combined to produce bone or tissue selective images. Using this process, we could improve the signal to noise ratio characteristics in the material selective images.

  • A method to reduce seam line artifact in spatial compounding of ultrasonic images is presented. Spatial compounding is a speckle reducing imaging technique in which a number of ultrasound images of a given target that have been obtained from multiple view angles are combined into a single compounded image by combining the data received from each data point in the compounded image. Since different view angle results in different view area, and the images of different view arms are combined into an image, the compounded image consists of regions with different signal to noise ratio, and the boundary lines between these regions are visible as seam lines in the compounded images. In this paper, we present an algorithm that reduces the visibility of this seam line in the spatially compounded images. Design procedure for a FIH filter is described and the results of applying the filter to in-vivo ultrasonic images are analyzed.

  • In this paper, we propose a tone mapping method using Non-linear Dynamic Range Normalization (NDRN) for High Dynamic Range (HDR) images. HDR images are not suitable for commercial display devices because dynamic range of HDR images do not match with one of Low Dynamic Range (LDR) display devices. To reproduce a tone of HDR images for LDR displays, tone mapping methods have been proposed such as local and global tone mapping. We introduce NDRN to locate mean of HDR images at the center of LDR. NDRN preserves the details for highlight and shadow. By suppressing the significant luminance change in tone mapping, naturalness of original image can be also preserved. The experimental results show that the proposed method preserves details and naturalness of original images.

  • General image processing is the production of images of added value with the use of the original and standard images. Generated data and auxiliary data are backed up and this retrieved data is periodically updated to provide images to outside users. To product general images, makes use of EOC Processing System Software. And then added value images is made from the standard images. Standard and added images are possible with internet for search and promptly provides for user. The process of the standard image derived from the original image(received from the satellite) is systematically arranged in this thesis, which also contains a concise explanation of the EOC processing system.

  • This paper presents a camera calibration method using several images for three dimensional measurement applications such as stereo systems, mobile robots, and visual inspection systems in factories. Conventional calibration methods that use single image suffer from errors related to reference point extraction in image, lens distortion, and numerical analysis of nonlinear optimization. The camera parameter values obtained from images of same camera is not same even though we use same calibration method. The camera parameters that are obtained from several images of different view for a calibration target is usaully not same with large error values and we can not assume a special probabilistic distribution when we estimate the parameter values. In this paper, the median value of camera parameters from several images is used to improve estimation of the camera values in an iterative step with nonlinear optimization. The proposed method is proved by experiments using real images.

  • This paper proposes a gender identification using shoeprint images. It is difficult for the proposed method to identify an individual if shoeprint images for identification leaked out. Because the proposed method identifies gender without the faces, the type of dress and the hair types images. Therefore we can use safely the proposed method in public place. In addition, a sensor mat which we developed is reasonable to use mechanical switches arranged in a matrix pattern without pressure switches. We had shoeprint images with the sensor mat. We measure feature parameters from shoeprint images. The feature parameters are length, width and area of shoeprint. Utilizing the feature parameters, we identified gender. In order to verify the gender identification rate of the proposed method, we set up the sensor mat at an entrance of buildings and took shoeprint images of 100 men and 100 women. As a result, we achieved about 86 percent of the gender identification rate.

  • In landscape simulatin, it is necessary to express very realistic image generated by computer graphics. One solution is to use texture mapping; however, it needs a lot of work and time to obtain images for texture mapping since there are huge variety of images for buildings, roads, stations and so on, and the landscape image is diverse due to the weather and time. Especially, weathered images such as stain on walls, crack on roads and so forth, are needed to make the landscape image very realistic. These weathered images do not have to be strict so that it saves a lot of work and time for obtaining the images for texture mapping if we can generate a variety of weathered images automatically. Therefore, this paper describes how to generate a variety of weathered images automatically by changing the weathered shape of the original image.

  • The importance of fax imagerestoration is constantly increasing with the widespreasd use of facsimile machines in almost every sector of modern society. Recently, Handley and Doutherty proposed a morphological method for restoration of fax images, Their method removed effectively the only salient noise in the fax images. However, it could not remove the white and pepper noise that can appear in fax images since they treated fax images as deterministic sequences rather than random fields. Furthermore, this approach suffers from computational burden since it does not use recursive restoration technique. To cope with those difficulties, in this paper, we propose a new restoration scheme for restoring fax images using Kalman fitering which provides and efficient recursive processor. The proposed restoration method is based on the wide-sense Markov random fields (WSM).In order to verify the performance of the proposed restoration method, several experiments with the CCITT Group 3 fax machine were conducted with the generated document .Experimental results revealed that our proposed restoration method was shown to be superior to Handley et.al's method for restoring fax images.

  • The purpose of this paper is to extract fast DEM (Digital Elevation Model) using satellite images. DEM extraction consists of three parts. First part is the modeling of satellite position and attitude, second part is the matching of two images to find corresponding poults of them and third part is to calculate the elevation of each point by using the result of the first and second part. The position and attitude modeling of satellite is processed by using GCPs. A area based matching method is used to find corresponding points between the stereo satellite images. In the DEM generation system, this procedure holds most of a processing time, therefore a new fast matching algorithm is proposed to reduce the time for matching. The elevation of each point is calculated using the exterior orientation obtained from modeling and disparity from matching. In this paper, the SPOT satellite images, level IA 6000 $\times$6000 panchromatic images are used to extract DEM. The experiment result shows the possibility of fast DEM. extraction with the satellite images.

  • This study was designed to investigate the image of show window displays. The specific objectives of the study are as follows; 1) Construct a semantic differential scale to evaluate the images of show window displays; 2) Identify the factor structure of the show window displays; 3) Cluster the brands according to the images of show window displays; 4) Examine how the images of show window displays differ according to the different brand clusters; and 5) Identify by brand clusters, how the different show window display images affect the purchasing desires. The following conclusions were made from this study; 1.25 pairs of adjectives for show window displays were found to include five factor dimensions (total variance 67.7%) such as evaluation, interest, hardness and softness, maturity, and modernity. 2. The brands were divided into six clusters according to the show window display images. 3. There were significant differences in the visual evaluation of the brand clusters in the show window display images. 4. There were significant differences in the show window display images that affect the Purchasing desires among the brand clusters.
