A digital image processing technique which is able to be used for getting the velocity vector distribution of a surface of the spilt oil in the ocean without contacting the flow itself. This technique is based upon the PIV(Particle Imaging Velocimetry) technique and its system mainly consists of a high sensitive camera, a CCD camera, an image grabber, and a host computer in which an image processing algorithm is adopted for velocity vector acquisition. For the acquisition of the advective velocity vector of floating matters on the ocean, a new multi-frame tracking algorithm is proposed, and for the acquisition of the diffusion velocity vector distribution of the spilt oil onto the water surface, a high sensitive gray-level cross-correlation algorithm is proposed.

In this paper, a real-time vehicle detection and tracking algorithms is proposed. The vehicle detection could be processed using GMM (Gaussian Mixture Model) algorithm and mathematical morphological processing with HD CCTV camera images. The vehicle tracking based on separated vehicle object was performed using Euclidean distance between detected object. In more detail, background could be estimated using GMM from CCTV input image signal and then object could be separated from difference image of the input image and background image. At the next stage, candidated objects were reformed by using mathematical morphological processing. Finally, vehicle object could be detected using vehicle size informations dependent on distance and vehicle type in tunnel. The vehicle tracking performed using Euclidean distance between the objects in the video frames. Through computer simulation using recoded real video signal in tunnel, it is shown that the proposed system works well.

This paper describes a visual control scheme, fuzzy logic system for visual servoing of an autonomous mobile robot. An existing communication autonomous mobile robot always needs to keep the object in image to detect the moving object. This is a problem in an autonomous mobile robot for spontaneous activity. To solve it, some features for an object are taken from an image and then use in the design of fuzzy logic system for decision of moving location and direction of visual servoing contrivance(apparatus). So continuous tracking is possible by moving the visual servoing contrivance. We present some simulation results and further studies in the Section of Simulation and Concluding Remarks.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm that can efficiently detect and monitor multiple ships in real-time. The proposed algorithm uses morphological operations and edge information for detecting and tracking ships. We used smoothing filter with a $3{\times}3$ Gaussian window and luminance component instead of RGB components in the captured image. Additionally, we applied Sobel operator for edge detection and a threshold for binary images. Finally, object labeling with connectivity and morphological operation with open and erosion were used for ship detection. Compared with conventional methods, the proposed method is meant to be used mainly in coastal surveillance systems and monitoring systems of harbors. A system based on this method was tested for both stationary and non-stationary backgrounds, and the results of the detection and tracking rates were more than 97% on average. Thousands of image frames and 20 different video sequences in both online and offline modes were tested, and an overall detection rate of 97.6% was achieved.
The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in eye-tracking, which is one of the emotional reactions of the autonomic nervous system, against various experimental stimuli that vary in terms of the movement attributes of graphic image. This experiment conducted an analysis of variance of the movement factors(n) in each movement attribute(speed, horizontality movement, verticality movement, diagonal movement). Dependent variables were the fixation starting time, the fixation dwell time, the whole fixation time from stimulus appearance, and the eye-tracking length. The result of eye-tracking against movement speed showed nonsignificant differences for each movement attribute. In the horizontality movement, the → movement was higher than the ← movement. In the verticality movement, the ↑ movement was higher than the ↓ movement. In the diagonal movement, there was not significant differences for each movement attributes.
In this paper, a new intelligent moving target tracking and surveillance system basing on the pan/tilt-embedded stereo camera system is suggested and implemented. In the proposed system, once the face area of a target is detected from the input stereo image by using a YCbCr color model and then, using this data as well as the geometric information of the tracking system, the distance and 3D information of the target are effectively extracted in real-time.

A non-contact 6D motion tracking system is proposed. The system consists of two color cameras, a color image grabber and a host computer, Motions of a floating vessel was measured by the constructed system. The instantaneous forces of the floating vessel are analyzed. The floating vessel was put on the water in a small water container in free conditions. The measured forces are reconstructed by the measurement results. The system can be used to non-contact measurements for 6D dynamic analysis of floating vessels.

In this paper we propose a new adaptive stereo object tracking system that can extract the object from the complex background and foreground noises by using the image-based SAD algorithm and control the convergence angle and pan/tilt of cameras by using optical BPEJTC. From the experimental results the proposed stereo tracking system is found to track the object adpatively under the circumstance of complex and changing background noises and the possibility of real-time implementation of the proposed system by using the optical system is also suggested.

The performance of a tracking system is greatly increased if multiple types of sensors are combined to achieve the objective of the tracking instead of relying on single type of sensor. To conduct the multi-modal tracking, we have previously developed a multi-modal sensor-based tracking model where acoustic sensors mainly track the objects and visual sensors compensate the tracking errors [1]. In this paper, we find a network synchronization problem appearing in the developed tracking system. The problem is caused by the different location and traffic characteristics of multi-modal sensors and non-synchronized arrival of the captured sensor data at a processing server. To effectively deliver the sensor data, we propose a time-based packet aggregation algorithm where the acoustic sensor data are aggregated based on the sampling time and sent to the server. The delivered acoustic sensor data is then compensated by visual images to correct the tracking errors and such a compensation process improves the tracking accuracy in ideal case. However, in real situations, the tracking improvement from visual compensation can be severely degraded due to the aforementioned network synchronization problem, the impact of which is analyzed by simulations in this paper. To resolve the network synchronization problem, we differentiate the service level of sensor traffic based on Weight Round Robin (WRR) scheduling at the routers. The weighting factor allocated to each queue is calculated by a proposed Delay-based Weight Allocation (DWA) algorithm. From the simulations, we show the traffic differentiation model can mitigate the non-synchronization of sensor data. Finally, we analyze expected traffic behaviors of the tracking system in terms of acoustic sampling interval and visual image size.

In this paper, a simple optical method that uses an infrared(IR) cut filter is proposed to minimize variation of eye image by external infrared(IR) sources in a video based head mounted eye tracking system that is used in the field of sports. For this, the IR cut filter is attached to a head mount of the eye tracking system, and the camera with an IR LED is located between the IR cut filter and eye. In this structure, external IR is blocked by the IR cut filter, and the IR intensity on the eye can be controlled by the IR LED. Therefore, the illumination condition of the camera to capture the eye can be stable without being affected by external IR illuminations. To verify the proposed idea, variation of the eye image and intensity of the IR with/without the IR cut filter is measured under various illumination conditions. The measured data show that the IR cut filter method can block external IR effectively, and complex pupil detection algorithms can be replaced by a simple binarized method.
