  • Confocal Imaging System is an essential machine for a wide range of inspection wafer. For concurrent and fast acquiring the image data of four channels, the new image acquisition system used the protocol of camera-link standard with the full mode of configuration in interconnection with a frame grabber integrated in a computer, which is popularly used for many cameras, so the programming environment of image processing is optional such as Visual C++, Matlab. In addition, many conventional methods were coordinately used for contribution to build the high quality of images for precise processing analog signals of PhotoMutiplier Tubes(PMTs), accurate control of scanning device, sensitivity of PMTs, and laser source. The prototype of new image acquisition system, could meet the goal of development, it is used in LSCM for high content screening to investigation the processes of elements of living specimens at the same time by simultaneous grab image data on 4 PMTs channels.

  • The flame image processing and analysis system has been investigated for the optimal pulverized coal firing of thermal power plant, especially for lower nitrogen oxide generation and more safe operation. We aimed at gaining the relationship between burner flame image information and emissions of nitrogen oxide and unburned carbon in furnace utilizing the flame image processing methods, by which we quantitatively determine the condition of combustion on the individual humors. Its feasibility test was undertaken with a pilot furnace for coal firing, through which the system was observed to be effective for the monitoring of the combustion condition of pulverized coal firing boilers.

Corridor Navigation of the Mobile Robot Using Image Based Control

  • In this paper, the wall following navigation algorithm of the mobile robot using a mono vision system is described. The key points of the mobile robot navigation system are effective acquisition of the environmental information and fast recognition of the robot position. Also, from this information, the mobile robot should be appropriately controlled to follow a desired path. For the recognition of the relative position and orientation of the robot to the wall, the features of the corridor structure are extracted using the mono vision system, then the relative position, the offset distance and steering angle of the robot from the wall, is derived for a simple corridor geometry. For the alleviation of the computation burden of the image processing, the Kalman filter is used to reduce search region in the image space for line detection. Next, the robot is controlled by this information to follow the desired path. The wall following control scheme by the PD control scheme is composed of two control parts, the approaching control and the orientation control, and each control is performed by steering and forward-driving motion of the robot. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the real time navigation experiments are performed. Through the result of the experiments, the effectiveness and flexibility of the suggested algorithm are verified in comparison with a pure encoder-guided mobile robot navigation system.

  • The acquisition of many control points for SAR data processing is very difficult and time_consuming steps. For resolving the problem about control points, this paper describes satellite orbit refinement method using minimum control point. Accuracy of geocoding according to distribution and number of control points are analyzed and geocoded RADARSAT image was produced in the paper.

  • In this paper, we developed an outdoor augmented reality system which has remote real scenes acquisition ability. The real scenes acquisition system consists of Image acquisition system, tracking system, wireless data transceiver and power supply. The tracking system consists of Tans Vector and RT-20 which measures a position and attitude of the CCD camera that attached to the remote control helicopter. Wireless data transceiver system is utilized for data transmission of remote system that of attitude, position information, and real scenes data that acquired by the CCD camera. Maximum propelling power of remote control helicopter is 15Kg, so we used 7.2V li-ion cell as a power supply for system minimize. As the results of experiment, the developing system presented application possibility of remote information acquisition system such as construction simulation & estimation, broadcasting, tour guide.

  • The effectiveness of many greenhouse environment control methodologies depends on the growth information of crops. Acquisition of the growth information of crops requires a non-invasive and continuous monitoring method. Crop growth monitoring system using digital imaging technique was developed to conduct non-destructive and intact plant growth analyses. The monitoring system automatically measures crop growth information sends an appropriate control signal to the nutrient solution supplying system. To develop the monitoring system, a linear model that explains the relationship between the fresh weight and the top projected leaf area of a lettuce plant was developed from an experiment. The monitoring system was evaluated buy successive lettuce growing experiments. Results of the experiments showed that the developed system could estimate the fresh weight of lettuce from a lettuce image by using the linear model and generate an EC control signal according to the lettuce growth stage.

  • Korea Astronomy Observatory (KAO) recently developed a new model of CCD imaging system for astronomical purpose. This paper presents system structure and electrical circuit descriptions with the performance of the CCD imaging system. The developed system can handle astronomical image acquisition with additional functions of on-chip binning, sub-image acquisition using a SITe $1024\times1024$ CCD chip. Particularly the controller design of the system allows us great flexibility and versatility with the software system control and it is possible to cope with any format CCDs by any manufactures, in principle. The system performances are derived by mean variance test in our laboratory, which shows that the total system noise 10.5e-(R.M.S), Gain 1.9e-/ ADD, non-linearity $0.37\%$

  • A tape feeder of a SMD(Surface Mount Device) mounter is a device that sequentially feeds electronic components on a tape reel to the pick-up system of the mounter. As components are getting much smaller, feeding accuracy of a feeder becomes one of the most important factors for successful component pick-up. Therefore, it is critical to keep the feeding accuracy to a specified level in the assembly and production of tape feeders.   • X-ray cross-sectional image-based inspection technique is one of the most useful methods to inspect the brazing joints of heat exchanger. Through X-ray cross-sectional image acquisition, image processing, and defect inspection, the defects of brazing joints can be detected. This paper presents a method to judge the type of detected defects automatically, and to display them three-dimensionally. The defect type is classified as unconnected defect, void, and so on, based on location, size, and shape information of defect. Three-dimensional display which is realized using OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) will be helpful to understand the overall situation including location, size, shape of the defects in a test object.

A Study on an Image Restoration Algorithm in Universal Noise Environments

  • Images are often corrupted by noises during signal acquisition and transmission. Among those noises, additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and impulse noise are most representative. For different types of noise have different characters, how to remove them separately from degraded image is one of the most fundamental problems. Thus, a modified image restoration algorithm is proposed in this paper, which can not only remove impulse noise of random values, but also remove the AWGN selectively. The noise detection step is by calculating the intensity difference and the spatial distance between pixels in a mask. To divide two different noises, the method is based on three weighted parameters. And the weighted parameters in the filtering mask depend on spatial distances, positions of impulse noise and standard deviation of AWGN. We also use the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) to evaluate restoration performance, and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method performs better than conventional median-type filters, in preserving edge details.
