Estimation of Trifocal Tensor with Corresponding Mesh of Two Frontal Images

  • We are going to procedure various view from two frontal image using trifocal tensor. We found that warping is effective to produce synthesized poses of a face with the small number of mesh point of a given image in previous research[1]. For this research, fundamental matrix is important to calculate trifocal tensor. So, in this paper, we investigate two existing algorithms: Hartley's[2] and Kanatani's[3]. As an experimental result, Kenichi Kantani's algorithm has better performance of fundamental matrix than Harley's algorithm. Then we use the fundamental matrix of Kenichi Kantani's algorithm to calculate trifocal tensor. From trifocal tensor we calculate new trifocal tensor with rotation input and translation input and we use warping to produce new virtual views.

Prostate MR and Pathology Image Fusion through Image Correction and Multi-stage Registration (영상보정 및 다단계 정합을 통한 전립선 MR 영상과 병리 영상간 융합)

  • In this paper, we propose a method for combining MR image with histopathology image of the prostate using image correction and multi-stage registration. Our method consists of four steps. First, the intensity of prostate bleeding area on T2-weighted MR image is substituted for that on T1-weighted MR image. And two or four tissue sections of the prostate in histopathology image are combined to produce a single prostate image by manual stitching. Second, rigid registration is performed to find the affine transformations that to optimize mutual information between MR and histopathology images. Third, the result of affine registration is deformed by the TPS warping. Finally, aligned images are visualized by the intensity intermixing. Experimental results show that the prostate tumor lesion can be properly located and clearly visualized within MR images for tissue characterization comparison and that the registration error between T2-weighted MR and histopathology image was 0.0815mm.

Development of Digital Leaf Authoring Tool for Virtual Landscape Production (가상 조경 생성을위한 디지털 잎 저작도구 개발)

  • This study proposes a method of developing authoring tool that can easily and intuitively generate diverse digital leaves that compose virtual landscape. The main system of the proposed authoring tool consists of deformation method for the contour of leaf blade based on image warping, procedural modeling of leaf vein and visualization method based on mathematical model that expresses the color and brightness of leaves. First, the proposed authoring tool receives leaf input image and searches for contour information on the leaf blades. It then designs leaf blade deformation method that can generate diverse shapes of leaf blades in an intuitive structure using feature-based image warping. Based on the computed leaf blade contour, the system implements the generalized procedural modeling method suitable for the authoring tool that generates natural vein patterns appropriate for the leaf blade shape. Finally, the system applies visualization function that can express color and brightness of leaves and their changes over time using a mathematical model based on convolution sums of divisor functions. This paper provides texture support function so that the digital leaves that were generated using the proposed authoring tool can be used in a variety of three-dimensional digital contents field.

Distributed Coding Scheme for Multi-view Video through Efficient Side Information Generation

  • In this paper, a distributed image coding scheme for multi-view video through an efficient generation of side information is proposed. A distributed video coding technique corrects the errors in the side information, which is generated with the original image, by using the channel coding technique at the decoder. Therefore, the more correct the generated side information is, the better the performance of distributed video coding. The proposed technique is to apply the distributed video coding schemes to the image coding for multi-view video. It generates side information by selectively and efficiently using both 3-dimensional warping based on the depth map with spatially adjacent frames and motion-compensated temporal interpolation with temporally adjacent frames. In this scheme the difference between the adjacent frames, the sizes of the motion vectors for the adjacent blocks, and the edge information are used as the selection criteria. From the experiments, it was observed that the quality of the side information generated by the proposed technique was improved by the average peak signal-to-noise ratio of 0.97dB than the one by motion-compensated temporal interpolation or 3-dimensional warping. The result from analyzing the rate-distortion curves revealed that the proposed scheme could reduce the bit-rate by 8.01% on average at the same peak signal-to-noise ratio value, compared to previous work.

3D Face Modeling from a Frontal Face Image by Mesh-Warping (메쉬 워핑에 의한 정면 영상으로부터의 3D 얼굴 모델링)

  • Recently the 3D modeling techniques were developed rapidly due to rapid development of computer vision, computer graphics with the excellent performance of hardware. With the advent of a variety of 3D contents, 3D modeling technology becomes more in demand and it's quality is increased. 3D face models can be applied widely to such contents with high usability. In this paper, a 3D face modeling is attempted from a given single 2D frontal face image. To achieve the goal, we thereafter the feature points using AAM are extracted from the input frontal face image. With the extracted feature points we deform the 3D general model by 2-pass mesh warping, and also the depth extraction based on intensity values is attempted to. Throughout those processes, a universal 3D face modeling method with less expense and less restrictions to application environment was implemented and it's validity was shown through experiments.

A New Watermarking Algorithm for 3D Stereoscopic Image based on Depth and texture images (깊이 및 텍스쳐 영상 기반의 3D 입체 영상을 위한 워터마킹 알고리즘)

  • Since the depth and texture images have been widely used for generating 3-dimensional stereoscopic image, the security of them have been focused. In this paper, we propose a new watermarking technique for copyright of stereo and multiview images which is generated in an arbitrary viewpoint by depth and texture image. After the mark space is selected for preserving watermark through DIBR (depth-image-based rendering) process which uses 3D warping, the texture image is transformed to the frequency coefficient using 2D DCT (discrete cosine transform). Some parts of them are quantized, which is the corresponding process to watermarking. The embedded watermark is not conformed by eyes, so we identified the invisibility of the proposed method. In case of appling attacks of general image process, we also identified the robustness of it.

RBFNNs-based Recognition System of Vehicle License Plate Using Distortion Correction and Local Binarization (왜곡 보정과 지역 이진화를 이용한 RBFNNs 기반 차량 번호판 인식 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose vehicle license plate recognition system based on Radial Basis Function Neural Networks (RBFNNs) with the use of local binarization functions and canny edge algorithm. In order to detect the area of license plate and also recognize license plate numbers, binary images are generated by using local binarization methods, which consider local brightness, and canny edge detection. The generated binary images provide information related to the size and the position of license plate. Additionally, image warping is used to compensate the distortion of images obtained from the side. After extracting license plate numbers, the dimensionality of number images is reduced through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and is used as input variables to RBFNNs. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is used to optimize a number of essential parameters needed to improve the accuracy of RBFNNs. Those optimized parameters include the number of clusters and the fuzzification coefficient used in the FCM algorithm, and the orders of polynomial of networks. Image data sets are obtained by changing the distance between stationary vehicle and camera and then used to evaluate the performance of the proposed system.

A design of window configuration for stereo matching (스테레오 매칭을 위한 Window 형상 설계)

  • The purpose of this paper is to improve the matching accuracy in identifying corresponding points in the area-based matching for the processing of stereo vision. For the selection of window size, a new method is proposed based on frequency domain analysis. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed through a series of experiments. To overcome disproportionate distortion in stereo image pair, a new matching method using the warped window is also proposed. In the algorithm, the window is warped according to imaging geometry. Experiments on a synthetic image show that the matching accuracy is improved by 14.1% and 4.2% over the rectangular window method and image warping method each.

  • Face morphing, one of the most powerful image processing techniques that are often used in image processing and computer graphic fields, as it is a technique to change the image progressively and naturally from the original image to the target image. In this paper, we propose a method to generate Delaunay triangles using the facial landmark vertices generated by the Dlib face landmark detector and to implement morphing through warping and cross dissolving of Delaunay triangles between the original image and the target image. In this paper, we generate vertex points for face not manually but automatically, which is the major feature of the face such as eye, eyebrow, nose, and mouth, and is used to generate Delaunay triangles automatically which is the main characteristic of our face morphing method. Simulations show that we can add vertices manually and get more natural morphing results.

  • Shadows are important elements in producing a realistic image. Generation of exact shapes and positions of shadows is essential in rendering since it provides users with visual cues on the scene. It is also very important to be able to create soft shadows resulted from area light sources since they increase the visual realism drastically. In spite of their importance. the existing shadow generation algorithms still have some problems in producing realistic shadows in real-time. While image-based rendering techniques can often be effective1y applied to real-time shadow generation, such techniques usually demand so large memory space for storing preprocessed shadow maps. An effective compression method can help in reducing memory requirement, only at the additional decoding costs. In this paper, we propose a new image-barred shadow generation method based on image warping. With this method, it is possible to generate realistic shadows using only small sizes of pre-generated shadow maps, and is easy to extend to soft shadow generation. Our method will be efficiently used for generating realistic scenes in many real-time applications such as 3D games and virtual reality systems.
