Experimental study of additives on the ignition performance of a compression ignition natural gas engine is introduced, followed by results of a simulation of its working mechanism. From the experimental results, it is understood that engine ignition performance can be improved when a certain amount of Di-tertiary-butyl peroxide additive is added. If the mass fraction of Di-tertiary-butyl peroxide additive reaches as high as 14.2%, engine ignition can be realized at ambient temperatures with a glow plug temperature of about $750^{\circ}C$. From the simulation results, we verify that the Di-tertiary-butyl peroxide additive, by cracking its radicals at lower temperature, can accelerate reaction rate. Therefore, the additive is able to improve the ignition performance of natural gas significantly.

Aero gas turbine engines must demonstrate their ability to be ignited on ground conditions or relighted in flight. The electric spark ignition is usually used in current aero gas turbine engines. Experiments on ignition characteristics relating to spark igniter penetration depth under atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions were conducted on the model combustor which is scaled in 1/18. Exciter was operated during 2 seconds, and successful ignition phenomena were confirmed by the pressure rising sharply in combustor. In addition, instantaneous ignition images were captured by a high-speed camera. It showed kernel propagation and successful ignition events in the sector model combustor. Ignition test results showed that ignition limit with increase in penetration depth of the igniter plug was wider. When the penetration depth of the igniter plug increased under the same fuel injection pressure condition, successful ignition events were obtained in higher differential pressure conditions between inlet and outlet of the combustor. The results demonstrate that the ratio of the combustible mixture, which is exposed to the high temperature environment around the igniter plug tip, increases. Thereby affect the combustor ignition performance.
This study was undertaken to investigate fire risk characteristics of the plastics foam that is used an insulating materials in workplaces. The ignition characteristics and combustion gas of the plastics foam were carried out using the ISO self-Ignition tester, the Cone Calorimeter, and NES combustion analyzer. The experimental materials used were commercial samples and their composition is not disclosed by the manufacturer. As the experimental results, the self-ignition temperature of the plastics foam ranges from $410^{\circ}C$ to $510^{\circ}C$, and the flash-ignition temperature of plastics foam ranges from $370^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$. The difference of ignition temperature on density with plastics foam type was smaller since the amount of combustible gas to ignite is not caused enough. The time to ignition of the polyethylene foam in samples of the plastics foam was shorter, and its of polyethylene foam was longer. The concentration of carbon dioxide of the polyethylene foam shows higher in samples of the plastics foam. It is found that the concentration values of carbon monoxide of the plastics foam show very fatality on people during exposure of 30 minutes in fire.
The HCCI engines have been known with high efficiency and low pollution and can be actualized as the new internal combustion engines. However, As for(??) the ignition and combustion depend strongly on the oxidation reaction of the fuel, so it is difficult to control auto-ignition timing and combustion duration. Purpose of this paper is creating the database for development of multi-dimensional simulation and investigating the influence of different molecular structure. In this research, the effect of n-heptane mole ratio in fuel (XnH) on the ignition delay from homogeneous charge compression ignition(HCCI) has been investigated experimentally. By varying the XnH, it was possible to ascertain whether or not XnH is the main resource of ignition delay. Additionally, the information on equivalence ratio for varying XnH was obtained. The tests were performed on a RCM (Rapid Compression Machine) fueled with n-heptane and iso-octane. The results showed that decreasing XnH (100, 30, 20, 10,0), the ignition delays of low temperature reaction (tL) and high temperature reaction (tH) is longer. And the temperature of reaction increases by about 30K. n-heptane partial equivalence ratio (fnH) affect on tL.and TL. When ${\phi}$nH was increased as a certain value, tL was decreased and TL was increased.

Spark-ignition engine knock is affected by engine operating conditions such as engine speed, spark timing and intake air temperature. In this study the effect of intake air temperature on knock characteristics was studied experimentally using a 4-cylinder carburetor spark-ignition engine. The cylinder pressure data at 2000rpm were taken for intake air temperature range of $30^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$ with $10^{\circ}C$ interval. And 80 consecutive cycles were taken at each experimental condition. As the same spark timing, as the intake air temperature increased by $50^{\circ}C$, the mean knock intensity increased about 20kPa. This effect corresponds to that of spark timing advance of 3 crank angle degrees.
Hydrogen is considered a cleaner energy source than fossil fuels. As a result, the use of hydrogen in daily life and economic industries is expected to increase. However, the use of hydrogen energy is currently limited because of safety issues. The rate of combustion of the hydrogen mixture is about seven times higher than that of hydrocarbon fuels. The hydrogen mixture is highly flammable and has a low minimum ignition energy. Therefore, it presents considerable risks for fire and explosions in all areas of hydrogen manufacturing, transportation, storage, and use. In this study, the auto-ignition characteristics of hydrogen were investigated numerically for diluted hydrogen mixtures. Auto-ignition temperature, a critical property predicting the fire and explosion risk in hydrogen combustion, was determined in well-stirred reactors. When N2 and CO2 were used to dilute the hydrogen/air mixture, the ignition delay time increased with increasing dilution ratios in both cases. The CO2-diluted mixtures exhibited a longer ignition delay than the N2-diluted mixtures. We also confirmed that lower initial ignition temperatures increased the ignition delay times at 950 K and above. Overall, the auto-ignition characteristics, such as the concentrations of participating species and ignition delay times, were primarily affected by the initial temperature of the mixture.
The study was conducted experimentally on characteristic of thermal decomposition and minimum ignition temperature of magnesium dusts. For this purpose, three different Mg dusts of mean diameter (38, 142, $567{\mu}m$) were used. Experimental investigations were conducted by using TGA(Thermo gravimetric analysis) and MIT(Minimum Ignition Temperature) apparatus made in accordance with IEC 61241-2-1 standard. As the results, temperature of weight gain in Mg dust layers increased with increasing of heating rates in air and, under the same heating rate condition, minimum ignition temperature increased with particle size. Also the MIT of suspended Mg dust clouds tended to increase with increasing of mean diameter.
Ignition of a reactive solid in a shape of square corner by a hot surface is studied theoretically. Ignition time and the location of ignition point are determined as a function of dimensionless parameters, with the use of the homogeneous model of ignition. The effect of geometry on the ignition of solid fuel results in the local characteristics: the reaction is initiated in a hot point in depth of the substance. It is shown that ignition time is proportional to the dimensionless initial temperature, whereas for the ignition of the semiinfinite body this dependence was quadratic.

Combustion of diesel engine depends on the mixing of air and evaporating fuel during ignition delay greatly. Variation of air-fuel mixing rate and ignition delay for engine operating condition causes difference of combustion, performance and exhaust emissions. This study is investigated in a turbocharged diesel engine of IDI swirl chamber type. In the results, As injection timing is advanced until $12.6^{\circ}$ BTC, ignition delay decreases. NOx concentration and smoke level in exhaust gas increases for advanced injection timing Ignition delay, combustion period, pressure rise rate and exhaust gas temperature are increased with increasing engine speed. And ignition delay at high load is more decreased than that at low load. Ignition delay and combustion period are decreased with increasing intake pressure. Power increases, temperature and CO, NOx concentration in exhaust gas decreases as intake pressure increases. With increasing load, ignition delay is decreased and combustion period, motoring pressure are increased.
The ignition of propane was investigated behind reflected shock waves in the temperature range of 1350-1800 K and the pressure range of 0.75-1.57 bar. The ignition delay time was measured from the increase of pressure and OH emission in the C3H8-O2-Ar system. The relationship between the ignition delay time and the concentrations of propane and oxygen was determined in the form of mass-action expression with an Arrhenius temperature dependence. The numerical calculations were also performed to elucidate the important steps in the reaction scheme of propane ignition using various reaction mechanisms. The ignition delay times calculated from the mechanism of Sung et al.1 were in good agreement with the observed ones.
