Spontaneous ignition tests of five different coals with non-iso-thermal and iso-thermal test method based on the standard test procedure of NF T20-036 were carried. These five coals included the 2 low rank coals and 3 bituminous coals. Test results showed that the ignition temperatures of all coals at the iso-thermal conditions were higher than that of non-isothermal condition, and those of low rank SM and BR coal in both nonisothermal and isothermal conditions were lower than bituminous AN and CN coals. The chemical species of coals such as oxygen and hematite also plays an important role in enhancing the ignition rate that the ignition temperature of SM coal was lowered. The heat accumulation tendency of five coals inside outdoor stack pile was monitored with emphasis on the change in the temperature of the coal depth in stack pile. In case of low rank BR coal, its temperature inside coal stack pile due to the rate of high heat accumulation and oxidation was $59^{\circ}C$ compared to $51^{\circ}C$ for other SW bituminous coal. And the heat accumulation rate inside coal stack piles was increased with increased the Cp value which it was defined as the specific heat of coal at constant pressure, whereas other factors such as thermal diffusivity and conductivity of coal relatively had less effect on heat accumulation.

A shock tube technique was developed in which a freely falling droplets column produced by an ultrasonic atomizer was ignited behind reflected shock. In the present study, the effects of turbulent mixing on the ignition delay of a cetane was decided, also, ignition process was investigated. For the purpose of disturbance of droplets column and mixing, authors installed turbulent lattice in shock tube. Usually, the ignition delay is so called Arrhenius plot which found break point in the Arrhenius plot on the high temperature side. The rate of misfiring increased rapidly below 1080K, but ignition took place from 838k and luminous flame was seen to spread over the whole section by turbulent lattice. Length, from end plate to turbulent lattice, was varied with 60,40,20mm. Also, ignition process was detected by Photo transistor. As a result, it was found that physical factors changed ignition delay greatly and turbulent mixing had a considerable effects in the ignition process.
Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine combines the combustion characteristics of a compression ignition engine and a spark ignition engine. HCCI engines take advantage of the high compression ratio and heat release rate and thus exhibit high efficiency found in compression ignition engines. In modern research, simulation has be come a powerful tool as it saves time and also economical when compared to experimental study. Engine simulation has been developed to predict the performance of a homogeneous charge compression ignition engine. The effects of compression ratio, cylinder pressure, rate of pressure rise, flame temperature, rate of heat release, and mass fraction burned were simulated. The simulation and analysis show several meaningful results. The objective of the present study is to develop a combustion characteristics model for a homogeneous charge compression ignition engine running with isooctane as a fuel and effect of compression ratio.
The present study has been performed to investigate the ignition characteristics of a n-dodecane fuel droplet on the hot surface. Simplified bench scale test setup was built to examine the effect of air flow on the ignition temperature of fuel droplet. IR pyrometric sensor was used to measure the surface temperature, the measured temperature using IR pyrometer was directly compared with k-type thermocouple. The ignition of n-dodecane fuel droplet was divided into two stage - cool flame and hot flame - with the air flow rate except the case of air flow rate 3.0 lpm. The ignition temperature and probability was greatly affected by the air flow rate and the MHSIT of the present study was about $300^{\circ}C$ for air flow rate of 0.5 lpm.

This study is focused on the ignition of ceiling insulation depending on working condition of Sprinkler head in underground parking lot fire. When temperature changes of same point were measured depending on sprinkler's working condition, in Scenario 1, inner temperature at border of spray applied material(SP-2) of ceiling part near the fire and ceiling insulation(blowing polystyrene) was 658.27℃ and its which inner maximum temperature is higher than 427℃ which is the ignition point of ceiling insulation(blowing polistyrene), so it was observed that flame is ignited on the ceiling insulation and spread fire. In scenario 2, Inner fire temperature at border of spray applied material(SP-2) and ceiling insulation(blowing polystyrene) near the fire was 53.10℃ and it was lower than ignition point so it was observed that flame was not ignated on the ceiling insulation. As a result, it was foreseen that possibility of ignition on the ceiling insulation depending on working condition of sprinkler.

A fire phenomenon of a solid such as wood involves a phenomenon in which solid is heated from the outside and the gas generated through the thermal pyrolysis process of the material is burnt. The thermal pyrolysis phenomenon of the solid is a phenomenon in which the amount of energy incident from the outside, the amount of heat dissipation of the solid material, the heat transfer between the solid material and the surroundings including the amount of heat transfer to the air adjacent to the solid surface, and the fraction of oxygen in the air. In this paper, we calculate the required ignition temperature to simulate the fire phenomenon as simple as possible. By using cone calorimeter, the ignition time was measured by variously controlling the heat flux flowing into the wood specimen by using various wood specimens. The user friendly program is developed for calculation of the ignition temperature. Five different woods such as low density MDF, high density MDF, plywood, douglas fir and PB with various thickness are considered. The ignition temperatures suggested in this paper can be used for fire propagation analysis for woods.

The autoignition characteristics of biosyngas were investigated both numerically and experimentally. The effects of the temperature, gas composition, and pressure on the autoignition characteristics were evaluated. A shock tube was employed to measure the ignition delay times of the biosyngas. The numerical study on the ignition delay time was performed using the CHEMKIN-PRO software to validate the experimental results and predict the chemical species in the combustion process. The results revealed that the ignition delay time increased with an increase in the hydrogen fraction in the mixture. Under most temperature conditions, the ignition delay time decreased with a pressure increase. However, the ignition delay time increased with an increase in pressure under relatively low temperature conditions.
In this study, the fabrication of zeolite combined activated carbon spherical samples was carried out as follows. Briefly, ZSM-5 zeolite and activated carbon were composed as main absorbent materials; by controlling the weight percentage of zeolite and binder materials, a series of spherical samples (AZP 4, 6, 8) were prepared. These spherical samples were characterized by BET, XRD, SEM, EDX, and pressure drop; benzene and iodine adsorption tests, bactericidal effect test, and ignition temperature test were also performed. The adsorption capability was found to depend on the BET surface area; the spherical samples AZP6 with high BET surface area of $1011m^2/g$ not only exhibited excellent removal effects for benzene (24.9%) and iodine (920mg/g) but also a good bactericidal effect. The enhanced ignition temperature may be attributed to the homogeneous dispersion conditions and the proper weight percentage ratio between zeolite and activated carbon.

The water-in-fuel droplets were applied to investigate the effect of mixing ratio between water and decane, ambient temperature, droplet size and spacing between droplets on ignition and micro-explosion in a heated chamber with high temperature. The ignition temperature of droplet was found lower as the droplet size was increased and the contents of water was decreased. The life time of droplet, however, decreases as the contents of water increases due to the micro-explosion. The occurrence of micro-explosion also increases as the size of droplets and the ambient temperature increase. The flame spread speed gets faster as the contents of water and the number of suspender decreases.
In this study, it was attempted to obtain the fundamental data for the formation and oxidation of soot from a diesel engine. Combustion of spray injected into a cylinder is complex phenomenon having physical and chemical processes, and these processes affect each other. There are many factors in the mechanism of the formation and oxidization of soot and it is necessary to observe spray combustion microscopically. In order to observe with that view, free fuel droplet array was used as an experimental object and the droplet array was injected into an atmospheric combustion chamber with high temperature. Ambient temperature of the combustion chamber, interdroplet spacing, and droplet diameter were selected as parameters, which affect the formation and oxidation of soot. In this study, it was found that the parameters also affect ignition delay of droplet. The ambient temperature especially affected the ignition delay of droplet as well as the flame temperature after self-ignition. As the interdroplet spacing that means the local equivalence ratio in a combustion chamber was narrow, formation of soot was increased. As diameter of droplet was large, surface area of the droplet was also broad, and hence evaporation of the droplet was more active than that of a droplet with relative small diameter.
