  • This study was carried out to analyze characteristics of water quality and correlation among water quality parameters in Idong reservoir used for agricultural water. The pH and concentrations of DO, SS, BOD, COD, TP, Chl-a in Idong reservoir almost met the water quality standards for agricultural water, but TN concentration exceeded the water quality standards for agricultural water. All of water quality items had no significant difference between horizontal points at 95% confidence level and the Idong reservoir was possible to be treated as the single water body. As NIP ratio of the Idong reservoir is 52, TP is a limiting nutrient salt. As TN exceeds the water quality standards, it is required to preserve TP below current state to prevent water bloom by eutrophication. Therefore, reduction of phosphorus from the watershed is necessary for controlling the eutrophication of Idong reservoir.

  • This study is to analyse the hydrological behavior of agricultural reservoir using CAT (Catchment hydrologic cycle Assessment Tool). The CAT is a water cycle analysis model in order to quantitatively assess the characteristics of the short/long-term changes in watershed. It supports the effective design of water cycle improvement facilities by supplementing the strengths and weaknesses of existing conceptual parameter-based lumped hydrologic models and physical parameter-based distributed hydrologic models. The CAT especially supports the analysis of runoff processes in paddy fields and reservoirs. To evaluate the impact of agricultural reservoir operation and irrigation water supply on long-term rainfall-runoff process, the CAT was applied to Idong experimental catchment, operated for research on the rural catchment characteristics and accumulated long term data by hydrological observation equipments since 2000. From the results of the main control points, Idong, Yongdeok and Misan reservoirs, the daily water levels of those points are consistent well with observed water levels, and the Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiencies were 0.32~0.89 (2001~2007) and correlation coefficients were 0.73~0.98.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate quality characteristics of citron from Namhae. The physicochemical properties, organic acid, free sugar and aroma components were analyzed and compared with citron harvested in different areas of Namhae (Seolcheon, Changseon and Idong-meyon). Total weight of citron was range of 120.51~176.56 g, total and peel weight of citron cultivated from Changseon were significantly higher than the other citron. The color of peel was not significant in cultivated area. Soluble solids was higher in citron from Changseon and Idong than Seolcheon. Total phenol and flavonoids contents in citron from Idong were higher than the others. Organic acids such as citric acid and malic acid were higher in citron from Changseon. The contents of fructose and glucose in peel and sucrose in pulp were detected higher amount. Major component of aroma profiles in citron from different region of was dl-limonene. It was amount to 57.60% in citron from Idong, 71.02% and 73.04% in citron from Seolcheon and Changseon of all aromatic components. These results were suggested that physicochemical properties and aroma components of citron have some difference by cultivation habit, period, different cultivar and producing areas.

  • Stream Pilot Project, which began in May 2003 and finished in December 2003, was selected to develop effective methods applicable to nature-like streams. Stream restoration projects aim to maintain or increase ecosystem goods and services while protecting downstream and coastal ecosystems. Fields environmental monitoring such as flow discharge and precipitation were conducted along the Idong stream for amount of channel zone change in 2007. This study selected three monitoring positions to measure the water level and discharge of flowing water. A stage-discharge relation is obtained from direct discharge measurements for three stations by fitting an empirical relationship to the data set. Since discharge measures are made only for low flow conditions, a curve of discharge against stage can then be built by fitting these data with a power curve. And this study used data obtained from floodmark checkup as well as HEC-RAS model to analyze the hydrodynamic characteristics of monitoring sites. Reach-averaged hydraulic parameters for the supply reach were calculated from the small area's HEC-RAS model for Idong stream, and a HEC-RAS model used to analyze hydraulics for a period in 2007, after the stream was considered bank stabilization.

  • Drought monitoring over paddy field area is an important role as the frequency and intensity of drought due to climate change increases. This study analyzed the applicability of drought monitoring on paddy crops using MODIS-based field surveys. As a satellite-based drought index using evapotranspiration for quantitative drought determination, ESI (Evaporative Stress Index), was applied and calculated through the ratio of MODIS- based actual and potential evapotranspiration. For the irrigated areas of Idong, Gosam, Geumgwang, and Madun reservoirs the availability of irrigation water supply, ponding depth, precipitation, paddy growth were investigated for the paddy field within one grid of MODIS. In addition, the percentile-based ESI drought severity was calculated to compare the growth process of paddy and changes in the drought category of ESI. The Idong area was irrigated about a week later than other reservoirs for the period of water supply, transplanting, and water drainage and the ESI drought category tended to be different. The Gosam, Geumgwang, and Madun area expressed moderate drought prior to the farming season, and indicated normal as the water was supplied. During the water drainage, the drought category intensified, indicating that the water available on land was decreasing. These results demonstrated that the MODIS-based ESI could be an effective tool for agricultural drought monitoring over paddy field area.

  • Stage-discharge relationship is applied to convert water level into discharge at the auto-measuring station in many irrigation canals. The stage-discharge curve is very important for reliable application for the agricultural water management system. We made results of discharge measurement at 18 stations in the irrigation canal nearby the Idong reservoir from 2010 to 2011. Stage-discharge relationships for each 18 stations were drawn considering of different hydraulic and geometrical characteristics at each stations. R-squared over 0.91 at each stations show high reliability for application of these relationships.

  • From six reservoirs in Gyeonggi-do, we have collected the distribution and standing crop of phytoplankton since Nov. 2005 through Sep. 2006. As a result, the phytoplankton appeared totally 340 taxa belong to 7 classes, 15 orders, 5 suborders, 32 families, 4 subfamilies, 84 genera, 283 species, 43 varieties, 9 forms and 5 unidentified species. The standing crop was shown as minimum was 0.3 × 106 cells and maximum was 5,950 × 106. The relation of standing crop with TN, TP and Chl-a showed as positive. Total 12 taxa including 2 taxa of blue-green algae occurred to every seasons at six lakes, and it was thought that they distributed in mesotrophic state. Also, Achnanthes minutissima, Aulacoseira granulata, Eudorina elegans, Gloeocystis ampla, Pandorina morum, Pediastrum simplex var. duodenarium, Scenedesmus ecornis were regarded as the indicators of eutrophic state. From the estimation of LTSI and TSI, it was shown that the rest of lakes except for Idong reservoir of winter were eutrophic states.
