As various metabolic alterations develope in uremic patients. their diets need to be restricted, Furthermore medical complications with accompanying anorexia result in further complications and decrease in body strength. To assess the nutritional status of hemodialyzed patients we performed evaluation for dietary intake and protein catabolic rate(PCR) For 24 clinically stable male patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis dietary intake was estimated by 3-day food record method and PCR was calculated with blood urea nitrogen at pre and post hemodialysis. The results were as follows : 1) Average daily energy and protein intake were 26.7$\pm$5.1kcal/kg of body weight. 0.95$\pm$0.19 g/kg of body weight respectively. 2) Protein catabolic rate calculated from interdialysis blood urea nitrogen levels was 1.00$\pm$0.20g/kg of body weight. Protein catabolic rate was correlated with the amount of Protein intake(r=0.44 p<0.05) 3) Relative body weight(RBW) of the subjects was smaller than that of healthy man without hemodialysis. Calorie and protein intake and protein catabolic rate were significantly different (p<0.05) between patients with lower RBW(<90% of ideal body weight) and those with normal RBW(90~110% of ideal body weight) and those with normal RBW(90~110% of iedal body weight) 4) The duration of hemodialysis did not have a significant effect on the nutritional status of the subjects.
The present paper gives a general overview on amino acid nutrition mainly focused on the concept of ideal protein and amino acid requirements in swine and poultry. Also, the nutritional, economic and environmental roles of synthetic amino acids are presented. A special emphasis has been given to the protein sparing effect by the supplementation of synthetic amino acids into diet and to the effect of this supplementation on growth performance and reduction of environmental pollutants in swine and poultry manure. It is concluded that the supplementation of limited amounts of synthetic amino acids (0.1 to 0.3%) to diets for swine and poultry could spare 2 to 3 percentage units of dietary protein and substantially reduce nutrient excretion, especially nitrogen. Immunocompetency as affected by amino acid nutrition is also introduced and the importance of threonine for the synthesis of immunoproteins in colostrum and milk to maintain piglets' health and intestinal integrity has been emphasized. Finally, some speculation on the future of global amino acids market is presented in conclusion.
We have studied unbound docking for 12 protein-protein complexes using conformational space annealing (CSA) combined along with statistical pair potentials. The CSA, a powerful global optimization tool, is used to search the conformational space represented by a translational vector and three Euler amgles between two proteins. The energy function consists of three statistical pair-wise energy terms; one from the distance-scaled finite ideal-gas reference state (DFIRE) approach by Zhou and the other two derived from residue-residue contacts. The residue-residue contact terms describe both attractive and repulsive interactions between two residues in contact. The performance of the CSA docking is compared with that of ZDOCK, a well-established protein-protein docking method. The results show that the application of CSA to the protein-protein docking is quite successful, indicating that the CSA combined with a good scoring function is a promising method for the study of protein-protein interaction.
Increase in daily protein consumption per capita from 1975(85.1 g) to 2001(88.4 g) was 3.3 g. This trend was relatively slower than the case of Japan where daily protein consumption was 84.7 g in 1975 and 90.3 g in 2001. Animal-related protein in 2003 was 45.7 g in which 61% was originated from meat, milk and egg whereas 39% was composed of fish and its relevance. The trend of protein consumption fairly come up with the ideal ratio of 5:5 between animal-originated protein and plant-originated protein, following the base case of Japan. The effect of animal protein on human health can vary depending on one's viewpoint and its controversy is still a subject of debate. For reason, two faces of positive and negative effects on human health coexists. However, there is no doubt that positive effect is far more than negative one. It is not important whether or not animal protein is more beneficial for human health. However, it is more important how human balance between two proteins.

All drugs have both favorable therapeutic and untoward adverse effects. Conventional opioid analgesics possess both analgesia and adverse reactions, such as nausea, vomiting, and respiratory depression. The opioid ligand binds to ${\mu}$ opioid receptor and non-selectively activates two intracellular signaling pathways: the G protein pathway induce analgesia, while the ${\beta}$-arrestin pathway is responsible for the opioid-related adverse reactions. An ideal opioid should activate the G protein pathway while deactivating the ${\beta}$-arrestin pathway. Oliceridine (TRV130) has a novel characteristic mechanism on the action of the ${\mu}$ receptor G protein pathway selective (${\mu}$-GPS) modulation. Even though adverse reactions (ADRs) are significantly attenuated, while the analgesic effect is augmented, the some residual ADRs persist. Consequently, a G protein biased ${\mu}$ opioid ligand, oliceridine, improves the therapeutic index owing to increased analgesia with decreased adverse events. This review article provides a brief history, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and ADRs of oliceridine.
This review was written to introduce updated data on the structure and function of the major milk proteins identified as allergens, the characterization of their epitopes in each allergenic milk proteins, and the reduction of milk protein allergenicity. Most mammalian milk protein, even protein present at low concentration, are potential allergens. Epitopes identified in milk proteins are both conformational(structured epitope) and sequential epitopes(linear epitope), throughout the protein molecules. Epitopes on casein and whey proteins are reported to be sequential epitope and conformational epitopes, respectively. Conformational epitopes on whey protein are changed into sequential epitope by heat denaturation during heat treatment. Several methods have been proposed to reduce allergenicity of milk proteins. Most ideal and acceptable method to make hypoallergenic milk or formula, so far, is the hydrolysis of allergenic milk proteins by enzymes that has substrate specificity, such as pepsin, trypsin, or chymotrypsin. Commercial formulas based on milk protein hydrolysate are available for therapeutic purpose, hypoantigenic formula for infants from families with a history of milk allergy and hypoallergenic formula for infants with existing allergic symptoms.
Seeds are an ideal repository for recombinant proteins in molecular farming applications. However, in order to use plant seeds efficiently for the production of such proteins, it is necessary to understand a number of fundamental biological properties of seeds. This includes a full understanding of promoters which function in a seed-specific manner, the subcellular targeting of the desired polypeptide and the final form in which a protein is stored. Once a biologically active protein has been deposited in a seed, it is also critical that the protein can be extracted and purified efficiently. In this review, these issues are examined critically to provide a number of approaches which may be adopted for production of recombinant proteins in plants. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between subcellular localization and protein extraction and purification. The robustness and flexibility of seed-based production is illustrated by examples close to or already in commercial production.
It is well known that dietary protein affects the growth performance and carcass composition of poultry. Over the last several decades, numerous studies have been carried out to investigate to optimize the level of dietary protein since the protein is an important and expensive constituent in poultry feed. It is generally accepted that dietary protein should represent a balance of amino acids supporting the requirements for growth and maintenance of birds. A protein with balanced essential amino acids that matches a bird's requirement and sufficient non-essential amino acid nitrogen to enable the synthesis of all of the non-essential amino acids, is referred to as an 'ideal protein'. Feeding of excess protein or amino acids may result in an amount of nitrogen emission. Most common method to reduce nitrogen emission is using diet formulation which has lower dietary crude protein level and higher concentration of amino acid supplements. However, there are conflicting reports whether low protein diets supplemented with synthetic amino acids can obtain the growth performance equal to high protein diets. Excessive nitrogen excretion caused by amino acid imbalance also may influence the environment of poultry house due to ammonia production from uric acid. These environmental conditions may increase the incidence of skin problem or respiratory diseases of chickens. Various strategies based on comprehensive understanding should be tested to optimize nitrogen utilization and reduce nitrogen emission while maintaining the performance in poultry production.
Plasma protein concentration, plasma albumin concentration, hematocrit, and arterial blood gas tension were measured in 15 mongrel dogs undergoing heart transplantation with cardiopulmonary bypass. The hemodilution due to priming solution resulted in a 49% decrease in plasma protein concentration, a 57% decrease in plasma albumin concentration, a 46%a decrease in hematocrit. The measurements had returned to preperfusion values 1 hour after the end of cardiopulmonary bypass. The intraoperative changes in plasma protein and albumin concentration did not correlate with changes in alveolar-arterial oxygen tension gradients[D[A\ulcorner PO2]]. It is concluded that, in the absence of an increase in left atrial pressure, marked decrease in plasma protein concentration can be tolerated without the occurrence of pulmonary edema. And further study should be done to determine how to prepare an ideal priming solution.
Many studies have provided evidences that hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) including preS region could be an ideal candidate for a new hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccine with higher efficacy. We established CHO cell lines, IY-CHO-2 and IY-CHO-11 expressing high levels of HBsAg containing preS2 and S protein by stable transfection method. These cell lines expressed the correct size (about 1 kb in length) of HBsAg mRNA as expected. The purified protein from the culture supernatants of the clones showed the same sizes as those expressed in native hepatitis B virus (24 kDa, 27 kDa, 34 kDa and 36 kDa). Antibody productivity of CHO-derived HBsAg protein at lower dose challenge was higher than the protein containing S region alone expressed in yeast system. These results indicate that CHO-derived HBsAg protein containing preS2 and S region can be effectively used for a better immune response as a HBV vaccine.
