The probability distribution of ichthyoplankton is important for enhancing the precision of sampling while reducing unnecessary surveys. To estimate the ichthyoplankton detection proportion (IDP) and its margin of error (ME), the monitoring information of the chub mackerel's (Scomber japonicus) ichthyoplankton presence-absence sampling data has been were collected over approximately 30 years (from 1982 to 2011) in the Korean coastal seas. Based on the computed spatial distributions of the mackerel's IDP and ME, the confidence interval (CI) range, defined as 2 ME, decreases from approximately 80% to 40% as the sample size n increases from 4 to 24 and the ME is approximately 40% in the typical (seasonal survey) case n = 4 per year. The IDP and ME off Jeju Island are relatively high at the 0.5-degree smoothing level. After increasing the spatial smoothing level to 1.0-degree, the ME decreased, and the spatial distribution pattern also changed due to the over-smoothing effects. In this study, the 0.5-degree smoothing is more suitable for the distribution pattern than the 1.0-degree smoothing level. The area of the high IDP and the low ME on the mackerel's ichthyoplankton was similar to the estimated spawning ground in the Korean peninsula. This information could contribute to enhancing for the spawning ecology surveys.
To study the spatio-temperal distribution of the ichhyoplankton in the estuarine ecosystem, Ichthyoplankton were sampled with associated data on water temperature and salinity in Mankyong-Dongjin Estuary on October, 1989, and March, May and July, 1990. Water temperature varied seasonally, showing homogeneous spatial pattern. The spatial difference in splinty was determined by the amount of river runoff. Few Ichthyoplankton occurred in October and March. In May, Konosirus punctatus occupied most of the ichthyoplankton. In July, Sardinella zunasi, Engraulis japonica, Gobiidae, and Thrissa sp. were the dominant species. The eggs and larvae of Engraulis japonica were collected from the outer bay, while those of Konosirus punctatus predominated in the less saline inner bay. Konosirus punctatus. Sardinella zunasi, Gobiidae, and Thrissa sp. were the characteristic species of this estuary. They were considered to be spawned and grown during their early life stage in the less saline water.
A study on the ichthyoplankton assemblage was conducted around Dokdo in the East Sea in September 1999 and May 2000. Sixteen species of fish larvae including eggs were collected during the surveys. Anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) eggs and larvae were comprised of 2.0% and 94.5% of total samples in number, respectively. Muller's pearlside (Maurolicus muelleri) eggs and larvae were comprised of 95.0% and 3.2%, respectively. The other species mostly composed of warm water species were less than 2% of total samples in number. The number of species and abundance of the fish lawae and eggs were higher in September than in May. Although there were limited data on the ichthyoplankton around Dokdo in summer and winter, this study area seems to be used for the spawning or nursery ground of fishes.

Seasonal variation of abundance and species composition of ichthyoplankton were studied in the coastal water off Tongyoung, Korea. Monthly samples were collected using a ring net which were towed horizontally at 4 different stations from March, 1998 to February, 1999. A total of 74 species representing 35 families and 8 orders were found. Of these species 40 species (17 families) were Perciformes. Of the fish larvae couected Engraulis japonicus, Repomucenus sp., Parablennius yatabei, Synechogobius hasta, and Tridentiger sp. were the dominant species representing $80.6\%$ in total number of individuals. The number of species was highest in August and lowest in December; number of individuals was highest in May and lowest in November. The diversity index (Shannon and Wiener Index) was highest in march, and lowest in December.
Ichthyoplankton (fish eggs and larvae) were collected seasonally collected from 2017 to 2019 to clarify whether Dokdo serves as a fish spawning and/or nursery ground. Fish eggs were identified and classified into 16 species. The dominant fish egg species were Engraulis japonicus, Maurolicus japonicus, and Parajulis poecilepterus. Fish larvae were identified and classified into 15 species. The dominant fish larvae species were E. japonicus, M. japonicus, and Sebastes owstoni. A cluster analysis similarity percentages revealed two distinct groupings according to sample location (stations) with E. japonicus and M. japonicus as the main group influencers. E. japonicus was the dominant species off Dokdo. The species diversity and abundance peaked in summer. The diversity index, richness index, and evenness index fluctuated seasonally. There were no predominant species variations among the years. Sedentary species such as P. poecilepterus, Semicossyphus reticulatus, and Glyptocephalus stelleri occurred in the inshore stations. E. japonicus, M. japonicus, and Trachipterus trachypterus occurred in the offshore stations. Our results show these species use Dokdo as spawning and nursery grounds.
Ichthyoplankton were sampled with Bongo net at 13 stations from Chonsu Bay to Keum Estuary from July, 1985 to June, 1986. 19 taxa of pelagic eggs and 45 taxa of larvae were collected. The key to identify the pelagic eggs is based on the number of oil gloubles, the shape of the egg, the sculpture of the chorion, and the size of the egg and the oil globules. The key to the families of fish larvae is based on the morphometric characters such as the body shape, the position of the anus, the pigmentation pattern, and others.

This study was conducted to provide the basic information on environment effects on appearance of ichthyoplankton in the Yeongsan River Estuary in Spring and Summer from 2018 to 2020. Data were obtain from the database of 'Coastal Ecosystem' in "National Survey of Marine Ecosystem." Among the abundance ichthyoplankton species, the Gobiidae spp. dominated, accounting for 85% of the total abundances with the secondary dominant species being the Parablennius yatabei, representing 3% of the abundances. Cluster analysis results revealed a composition differentiated between spring and summer. The Yeongsan River Estuary is known to be significantly influenced by the opening and closing of estuarine gates. In this study, the fluctuation in the number of occurrence groups and abundance among the years and season is attributed to the phenomenon of high water temperature period and the freshwater discharge.
The ichthyoplankton were sampled during six different months (January, March, May, July, September and November 1998) to study seasonal variation and species composition of the ichthyoplankton in Sunchon Bay. During the study, fish eggs collected in May and July were identified as belonging to 4 species. The most of dominant species Engraulis japonicus accounted for 54.1% of the total fish eggs, followed by Leiognathus nuchalis (21.8%), Ilisha elongata (12.7%) and Konosirus punctatus (11.4%). The collected larvae and juveniles were identified into 12 taxa. 11 of which were identified to species level, and 1 taxa identif ied only to family level, respectively. The dominant species, Ilisha elongata, accounted for 48.9% of the total larvae and juveniles: it was followed by Pholis nebulosa at 31.8%. A species of Gobiidae and Thryssa hamiltoni accounted for 15.8% and 2.2% of the total, respectively. The 4 taxa constituted 98.7% of the total collected larvae and juveniles.
To study the distribution of ichthyoplankton in the adjacent waters of Yousu, ichthyoplankton were sampled 4 times (September 1996, November 1996, February 1997 and May 1997). Four species of fish eggs and twenty-four species of fish larvae were identified. Among fish eggs, Engraulis japonicus eggs were the dominant species comprising $80.6\%$ of the total fish eggs collected, followed by Callionymidae spp. $1.6\%$, Konosirus punctatus and Maurolicus muelleri occupied below $1.0\%$ respectively, while $17.8\%$ were unidentified. Most larval fish species were found in September (17 species). In fish larvae, Callionymidae spp. was the dominant species occupying $25.7\%$ of total fish larvae collected and than followed by Gobiidae spp. $23.5\%$, Sillago japonica $17.2\%$ Engraulis japonicus $12.2\%$, Omobranchus elegans $9.9\%$ and the unidentified species were less than $2.0\%$. The larvae fish species collected in this study area were comprising the coastal sedentary species (Gobiidae, Callionymidae, Hexagrammos otakii and io on), and the warm water species (Auxis spp. and Coryphaena hipurus and Pomacentridae spp.) which were appearing by warm water current flowing near the costal area of Cheju Island.
