The decrease in the summer peak electric load in our country is very important. The government has arranged and implemented a lot of support policies and statutes to decrease the peak electric load. And the ice-thermal-energy-storage system is known as one of the alternatives. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance and the total efficiency of its storage tank, conducting the charging operation, the parallel operation and the single operation of a storage tank. The thermal energy density stored and discharging efficiency of a storage tank and the efficiency of total energy utilization of system are $18.4\;USRT-h/m^3$, 96.2% and 2028.7 kcal/kWh under the operation of design condition. When the storage tank is supplied more ice thermal energy than design condition, it is estimated that the efficiency of system are lower than the design condition by the supercooled effect.
The purpose of this study is to maintain high efficiency and reasonable use of cool thermal storage systems operated in the domestic building sector. As the result of efficiency test from the five types of operated cool storage systems on the condition that COP ranges are 2.6 to 3.4 during the day time and 2.1 to 3.0 during the night time and it decreased by more than 30% of rated COP given 3.8 to 3.0. The Analysis of cool storage rate shows that only 3 (21.4%) systems out of 15 buildings hold to over 40% capacity for its total capacity. To prevent the decrease in operating efficiency, it should correct the malfunction of 3-way valve and expansion valve and the mistake of control values for schedule program and increase cooling tower capacity. In order to improve piping line, it needs bypass brine line off refrigerator, separation of chilled water line with Ice Slurry system at day and night time and speed control of chilled and warm water pumps. This study does require the more studies on improving difficulty of increasing cooling load with Ice on Coil system, waterproofing with Ice Ball system, COP drop during the night time with Ice Lens, low operating temperature during the day time with Ice Slurry and increasing of Power loss due to hot gas de-icing with Ice Harvest in the future.
The purpose of this study was to show how tomaintain high efficiency and to use reasonably when being applied the cold-heat storage systems to the showcase. An experimental study was performed to manufacture the showcase system in a laboratory. Comparing the result at general operation condition with that of the new condition using ice storage system, this study showed the effects of the refrigerant sub-cooling, and with using inverter. Using ice storage system, the ice making process was operated during midnight being not needed the cooling of the showcase through the continuous running of the condenser unit. And then, the refrigerant was sub-cooled using the stored cold-heat after being discharged from the air cooling condenser during the day time. Through the experiments, the load transfer rate for the showcase using inverter and ice storage was estimated about 30.0%. And showed that the total power consumption of the showcase with inverter could be reduced about 37% than that of the showcase without inverter.

Peak cooling load of large buildings is generally greater than their peak heating load. Internal and solar heat gains are used fur selection of adquate equipment in large building in cold winter climate like Canada and even Korea. The cost of geothermal heat exchanger to meet the cooling loads can increase the initial cost of ground source heat pump system to the extend less costly conventional system often chosen. Thermal ice storage system has been used for many years in Korea to reduce chiller capacity and shift Peak electrical time and demand. A distribution system designed to take advantage of heat extracted from the ice, and use of geothermal loop (geothermal heat exchanger) to heat as an alternate heat source and sink is well known to provide many benifits. The use of thermal energy storage (TES) reduces the heat pump capacity and peak cooling load needed in large building by as much as 40 to $60\%$ with less mechanical equipment and less space for mechanical room. Additionally TES can reduce the size and cost of the geothermal loop by 1/3 to 1/4 compared to ground coupled heat pump system that is designed to meet the peak heating and cooling load and also can eliminate difficuties of geothermal loop installation such as space requirements and thermal conditions of soil and rock at the urban area.
The heat transfer characteristics of ice storage system of falling film type using sprial coil is investigated. The experimental facilities consisted of a water tank, spiral coils located above the tank, an upper water distributor, and a circulating water pump. Water is distributed uniformally over the spiral coils and it forms falling thin films. In the process of freezing, ice is formed on outside of the spiral coils through recirculation of tank water. In the process of melting, ice is melted with return water from the heat load, while the water is chilled again and drops into the tank. The results of falling film type of ice thermal storage system are as follows. The highly efficient shower flowrates for icing is near $3{\ell}/min$. Icing rates on spiral coils is rosed while brine flowrates is increased. Lower brine temperature is not only increased freezing rates but. also become higher total icing weight and overall heat transfer coefficient. Smaller shower flowrates is obtained lower water temperature on outlet for a long time. The amounts of quantity can be detected more accurately by measuring storage tank weight.

Freezing rain is a phenomenon when precipitation falls as a liquid rain drop, but freezes when it comes into contact with surfaces or objects. In this study, we investigated the predictability of freezing rain and its characteristics, which are strongly related with the occurrence of black ice using synoptic scale meteorological observation data. Two different cases occurred at 2012 were analyzed and in the presented cases, freezing rain often occurs in the low-level low pressure with the warm front. The warm front due to the lower cyclone make suitable environment in which snow falling from the upper layer can change into supercooled water. The $0^{\circ}C$ temperature line to generate supercooling water is located at an altitude of 850 hPa in the vertical temperature distribution. And the ground temperature remained below zero, as is commonly known as a condition for black ice formation. It is confirmed that the formation rate of freezing rain is higher when the thickness after 1000-850 hPa is 1290-1310 m and the thickness of 850-700 hPa layer is larger than 1540 m in both cases. It can also be used to predict and estimate the generation of freezing rain by detecting and analyzing bright bands in radar observation.
Since a liquid-phase LPG injection system allows accurate control of fuel injection and increase in volumetric efficiency, it has advantages in achieving higher engine power and lower emissions compared to the mixer type LPG supplying system. However, this system also leads to an unexpected event called icing phenomenon which occurs when moisture in the air near the injector freezes and becomes frost around the nozzle hole due to extraction of heat from surrounding caused by instant fuel vaporization. As a result, it becomes difficult to control air/fuel ratio in engine operation, inducing exacerbation of engine performance and HC emission. One effort to mitigate icing phenomenon is to attach anti-icing injection tip in the end of nozzle. Therefore, in this study, the effect of engine operation parameters as well as surrounding conditions on icing phenomenon was investigated in a bench test rig with commercially-used anti-icing injection tips. The test results show that considerable ice was deposited on the surface near the nozzle hole of the anti-icing tip in low rpm and low load operating conditions in ambient air condition. This is because acceleration of detachment of deposited ice from the tip surface was induced in high load, high rpm conditions, resulting in decrease in frost accumulation. The results of the bench testing also demonstrate that little or no ice was formed at surrounding temperature below a freezing point since the absolute amount of moisture contained in the intake air is too small in such a low temperature.

Since the power transmission line(PTL) passes through the high mountain and heavy snowfall region, it is necessary to keep the stability of the PTL. In this study, PTL is modeled as a mass-spring-damper system by using RecurDyn. The lumped mass model is verified by calculated from the simulation comparing the deflection analysis according to the sag and tension. In order to analyze the dynamic behavior of PTL, a damping coefficient for a multi-body model is derived by using the free vibration test and Rayleigh damping theory. Sleet jump simulation according to the region is performed. The maximum jump height, icing sag and amount of jump are confirmed. Also, the amount of jump and the reaction force at the supporting point according to the tension and load of ice are analyzed, respectively. As a result, it is noted that the amount of jump and reaction force are influenced more by the load of ice than by the tension of PTL.

This study suggests a practical but rational approach for the development of reliability-based LRFD criteria for transmission towers under wind and ice loadings in Korea. Based on available statistical data on wind speed and icing on transmission lines in Korea, the design wind and ice loads are obtained by Monte Carlo Simulations. In the study, the AFOSM reliability method and an Importance Sampling Technique are used for the element and system reliability evaluation of actual transmission towers. Based on the selected target reliabilities, a set of load and resistance factors for the LRFD criteria are calibrated using the AFOSM and the code optimization technique.
Experimental study was performed to understand the operations of a showcase working in a discount store. Temperatures of evaporation, condenser were measured and also electric power consumption of compressor were measured. The purpose of this study is to application use of cold-heat storage systems operated the showcase. At the condition using ice storage system, the ice making process was operated during midnight being not needed the cooling of the showcase through the continuous running of the condenser unit. And then, the refrigerant was sub-cooled using stored cold-heat after being discharged from the air cooling condenser during the day time. The cooling performance was increased owing to the sub-cooling of refrigerant during day time, hence the running time of the compressor was effectively decreased. In other words, this study showed that power consumption during daytime can be transferred to the midnight for making use of the refrigerant sub-cooling. So the operating characteristics of the showcase system under various working conditions were analyzed and discussed.
