Previous studies have estimated crash prediction models with the fixed effect model which assumes the fixed value of coefficients without considering characteristics of each intersections. However the fixed effect model would estimate under estimation of the standard error resulted in over estimation of t-value. In order to overcome these shortcomings, the random effect model can be used with considering heterogeneity of AADT, geometric information and unobserved factors. In this study, data collections from 89 intersections in Daejeon and estimates of crash prediction models were conducted using the random and fixed effect negative binomial regression model for comparison and analysis of two models. As a result of model estimates, AADT, speed limits, number of lanes, exclusive right turn pockets and front traffic signal were found to be significant. For comparing statistical significance of two models, the random effect model could be better statistical significance with -1537.802 of log-likelihood at convergence comparing with -1691.327 for the fixed effect model. Also likelihood ration value was computed as 0.279 for the random effect model and 0.207 for the fixed effect model. This mean that the random effect model can be improved for statistical significance of models comparing with the fixed effect model.

On January 16 to May 31, 2012, Korea Expressway Corporation was carried out an pilot overweight enforcement using high-speed weigh-in-motion at Gyeongbu expressway 195.0k (Gimcheon) and Jungbunaeryuk expressway 119.5k (Seonsan). In this study, it is attempted to analyze the practical effect of high-speed weigh-in-motion by comparing the average total weight and traffic volume of eight weeks before and after the these overweight enforcement, respectively. The main results are as follows: First, the result of analysis of the change in average total weight and traffic volume, it was found that it did not differ after as in previous traffic volume, and the total weight is reduced. This means that the total weight is not reduced by decreasing freight traffic, but by decreasing the total weight. Therefore, it can be seen that there is an effect of pilot overweight enforcement using high-speed weigh-in-motion. Second, the average total weight and total weekly traffic volume decreased rapidly starting from the start of the overweight enforcement, but there was showing a tendency to increase gradually again.

A subway system is one of the major transportation modes at a metropolitan area. When it meets the other lines, the metro station, so-called transferring station, is usually threatened by severe pedestrian congestion and safety issue of transit users including the transportation vulnerable. Although transportation planners forecast travel demand at the beginning, it is not easy to predict pedestrian flows precisely for a long term if land use plans have dramatically changed. Due to expensive costs, structural extension of metro stations is limited. Therefore, it requires efficient and technical improvements as meeting the demand of pedestrian and physical characteristics. In this study, the core mechanism of pedestrian movement-based simulation model was introduced and evacuation scenarios were analyzed with the developed model. As a result, the multiple optimal routes for unexpected events at the solid space of the multiple stories are easily searched through the simulator and in the case of Sadang Station, travel time can be reduced by 60% when the evacuation information and intuitive design are provided.

Many traffic centers are highly hesitant in employing existing Automatic Incident Detection Algorithms due to high false alarm rate, low detection rate, and enormous effort taken in maintaining algorithm parameters, together with complex algorithm structure and filtering/smoothing process. Concerns grow over the situation particularly in Freeway Incident Management Area This study proposes a new algorithm and introduces a novel concept, the Displaced Flow Index (DiFI) which is similar to a product of relative speed and relative occupancy for every execution period. The algorithm structure is very simple, also easy to understand with minimum parameters, and could use raw data without any additional pre-processing. To evaluate the performance of the DiFI algorithm, validation test on the algorithm has been conducted using detector data taken from Naebu Expressway in Seoul and following transferability tests with Gyeongbu Expressway detector data. Performance test has utilized many indices such as DR, FAR, MTTD (Mean Time To Detect), CR (Classification Rate), CI (Composite Index) and PI (Performance Index). It was found that the DR is up to 100%, the MTTD is a little over 1.0 minutes, and the FAR is as low as 2.99%. This newly designed algorithm seems promising and outperformed SAO and most popular AIDAs such as APID and DELOS, and showed the best performance in every category.

The bikes are conflicted with the cars and the pedestrian at the intersection and the road with the bike crossing. To establish the bike signal at this section is one method to solve this conflict. According to the survey for the bike road status and the biker's characters which are crossing the road at the intersection, the bike crossing are established with beside the pedestrian crossing and most of the bikers are crossing the street by the pedestrian signal. Also, the bike queue which is waiting the signal change at the stop line was cleared before the closing the pedestrian signal. Considering the result of this survey, TOUCAN crossing signal type in England for bike signal at the place where the bike crossing are established with beside the pedestrian crossing, in which bike rider and pedestrian can cross by the pedestrian signal operation, is suggested. However, at the place where the bike crossing is apart from the pedestrian crossing, the bike signal which is connected to the vehicle signal is suggested. All these types of bike signals can be accepted for the present bike crossing equipments and the biker's characters and be adapted to the police standard traffic signal controller by adjusting the signal time only without any function change.

This paper designed the antenna for collecting and servicing the traffic information that apply to freeway Traffic Management System, as using DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication). Active DSRC is the technology that is using 5.8GHz Radio Frequency to a mean Sequency and there are a lot of the case occurring a physical electric wave shadowing because of the traveling straight of a electric wave. In such inferior communication environment, it constructed the stabilized communication link that can do collecting and servicing the correct traffic information and designed the beam pattern considering the establishment position of the antenna that can apply to various road environments and a communication area. By considering the communication link environment, this paper designed and manufacture the mean frequency of 5.8GHz, the input loss of -17dB in 75MHz bandwidth, the Axial ratio of 1.5:1, and $2{\times}4$ array microstrip antenna which beam pattern have the characteristic of $55^{\circ}$ horizontal half power beam width and $26^{\circ}$elevation half power beam width and the minimum establishment height of the antenna was designed as 14m for avoiding electric wave shadowing on a physical condition between vehicles

In this paper, we propose a method that can construct efficiently a P2P overlay multicast network composed of many heterogeneous peers in communication bandwidth, processing power and a storage size by selecting a peer in a distributed fashion using an ant-colony theory that is one of the computational intelligence methods. The proposed method considers not only the capacity of a peer but also the number of children peers supported by the peer and the hop distance between a multicast source and the peer when selecting a parent peer of a newly joining node. Thus, an P2P multicast overlay network is constructed efficiently in that the distances between a multicast source and peers are maintained small. In addition, the proposed method works in a distributed fashion in that peers use their local information to find a parent node. Thus, compared to a centralized method where a centralized server maintains and controls the overlay construction process, the proposed method scales well. Through simulations, we show that, by making a few high capacity peers support a lot of low capacity peers, the proposed method can maintain the size of overlay network small even there are a few thousands of peers in the network.

Recently, various alternatives for safety and efficiency of commercial vehicles have been considered, and one of the new alternatives is the application of a digital tachograph. In Korea, the installation of a digital tachograph to commercial vehicles was regulated from 2011 and Korea Transportation Safety Authority developed e-TAS to analyze the monitoring data from digital tachographs installed in the order of 100 commercial vehicles. This study performs the potential impact analysis of the DTG installation, which includes a trend of dangerous driving, a trend of traffic accidents and cost-effective analysis, a trend of fuel consumption and cost-effective analysis, a cost-effective analysis of social benefits using e-TAS data. Depending on the frequency of dangerous driving, the participants are divided into three groups; high-dangerous group, average-dangerous group and low-dangerous group. The high-dangerous driving group shows lower km/liter than the low-dangerous driving group by 15% for buses and taxis and by 30% for trucks. About $CO_2$ emission, the difference becomes bigger; 25%, 25% and 42% for buses, taxis and trucks, respectively. Although this study is a short-term period analysis, the methodology will be applicable for the long-term period analysis with larger data.

According to the Lighthill and Whitham's shock wave model, a shock wave exists even in a homogeneous speed condition. They referred this wave as unobservable- analogous to a radio wave that cannot be seen. Recent research has attempted to identify how such a counterintuitive conclusion results from the Lighthill and Whitham's shock wave model, and derive a new asymptotical shock wave model. The asymptotical model showed that the shock wave in a homogenous speed traffic stream is identical to the ambient vehicle speed. Thus, no radio wave-like shock wave exists. However, performance tests of the asymptotical model using numerical values have not yet been performed. We investigated the new asymptotical model by examining the implications of the new model, and tested it using numerical values based on a test scenario. Our investigation showed that the only difference between both models is in the third term of the equations, and that this difference has a crucial role in the model output. Incorporation of model parameter${\alpha}$ is another distinctive feature of the asymptotical model. This parameter makes the asymptotical model more flexible. In addition, due to various choices of ${\alpha}$ values, model calibration to accommodate various traffic flow situations is achievable. In Lighthill and Whitham's model, this is not possible. Our numerical test results showed that the new model yields significantly different outputs: the predicted shock wave speeds of the asymptotical model tend to lean toward the downstream direction in most cases compared to the shock wave speeds of Lighthill and Whitham's model for the same test environment. Statistical tests of significance also indicate that the outputs of the new model are significantly different than the corresponding outputs of Lighthill and Whitham's model.
