VAF 변분법을 이용한 전구 해양자료 동화 연구 (A Study of Global Ocean Data Assimilation using VAF)

  • 본 연구에서는 전구 해양에서 관측되는 ARGO및 TAO해양 자료를 이용하여 해양의 3차원적인 구조를 분석.동화하고 궁극적으로 해양대순환모형을 위한 초기장을 생산하였다. 초기장의 생산을 위하여 전구 해양대순환 모형인 MOM3.1을 이용하였으며 생산한 배경장에, 계산시간과 계산공간을 절약할 수 있는 공간필터를 사용한 변분법(VAF, variational analysis using filter)을 이용하여 ARGO와 TAO 수온 자료를 동화하였다. 또한 본 연구에서는 자료 동화가 미치는 지속적인 영향을 살펴보고자 실험적분을 수행하였는데, 모형의 초기입력 자료를 자료동화 기법을 적용한 경우와 적용하지 않은 두 가지로 나누어 비교 실험을 수행하였다. 본 연구에서 자료 동화된 분석장은 OISST와의 비교를 통해 적절히 생산되었음을 보여주었다. 관측자료를 동화한 분석장을 초기자료로 한 10개월간의 적분결과를 살펴보면, 자료 동화를 통해 제거된 모형의 계통적 bias가 적분이 진행되는 과정에서 관성 중력파 등의 형태로 소멸되지 않고 지속적으로 관측과 유사하게 유지되었다. 이는 본 연구에서 실행한 자료동화가 모형의 역학적인 균형을 유지하면서 적절히 이루어졌음을 의미하며, 전구 대순환 모형을 이용한 중.장기 대기.해양 예측에 이러한 해양 자료동화가 대단히 유용하다는 것을 의미한다.

개인의 정보기술 수용격차 요인에 대한 탐색적 연구 (An Exploratory Study on the Factors of Assimilation Gap in Information Technology at the Individual Level)

  • This study aims to explore factors of Assimilation Gap(AG) which is proposed and illustrated by Fichman and Kemerer(1997). AG is defined as the time delay between adoption and deployment and mainly studied at the organizational level. This study derives the factor affecting AG through a review of technology acceptance models and agency theory. The research model consists of three groups of independent variables(IT knowledge burden, Individual characteristics, and organization characteristics) and a moderator, which is goal incongruence. Using multiple regression analyses, four groups of hypotheses are tested with data of 221 knowledge workers from various organizations through e-mail survey. The result shows that radicalness(a dimension of knowledge burden), personal innovativeness, self-efficacy, and organizational support are statistically significant factors while complexity, experience, and perceived critical mass are not supported. The moderator effects of goal incongruence are found in personal innovativeness and organizational support. The results of this study demonstrate that agency theory is a useful perspective to deal with AG, especially in radical innovation. In addition, IT practitioners should consider not only user training but also incentives and possible organizational controls in implementing a new information technology.

신선영(Sun Yung Shin) 문학 연구 (A Study on Sun Yung Shin's Literature)

  • Sung Yung Shin was adopted as a Korean infant to an American family. She is now one of the most important writers in Asian American literary field. This paper analyzes the characteristics of her literature, focusing on Skirt full of Black (poetry)and Cooper's Lesson(children's book). Sun Yung Shin uses collage in Skirt full of Black as an effective rhetorical device because it can express her experience as an adopted other in the multicultural American society. She rewrites the fairy tale of Swan Prince in the viewpoint of silence. For a yellow Asian adopted woman, speaking is suppressed. In the end, the attempt to escape from silence is the writer's resisting activity, and the rewriting of the tale is her questioning in place of the princess. I analyses Cooper's Lesson in the viewpoint of transcultural assimilation. Cooper's lesson is accomplished not by his white father but by a Korean settler, Mr. Lee. Cooper's family is a hybrid composed of white American father, Korean mother, and their half son. So this family has many complicated difficulties, though it's small. Mr. Lee who accepted a new language to establish a new identity teaches Cooper the importance of cultural assimilation, which is not a one-sided integration to dominant culture but an intercultural communion while sustaining each culture's singularity. Cooper learns that he should live in an harmonious and balanced life in a multi-cultural society while keeping his own subjective point of view.

분석자료의 분해능과 3DVAR 적용에 따른 WRF모의 민감도: 사례 연구 (Sensitivities of WRF Simulations to the Resolution of Analysis Data and to Application of 3DVAR: A Case Study)

  • This study aims at examining the sensitivity of numerical simulations to the resolution of initial and boundary data, and to an application of WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) 3DVAR (Three Dimension Variational data Assimilation). To do this, we ran the WRF model by using GDAS (Global Data Assimilation System) FNL (Final analyses) and the KLAPS (Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System) analyses as the WRF's initial and boundary data, and by using an initial field made by assimilating the radar data to the KLAPS analyses. For the sensitivity experiment, we selected a heavy rainfall case of 21 September 2010, where there was localized torrential rain, which was recorded as 259.5 mm precipitation in a day at Seoul. The result of the simulation using the FNL as initial and boundary data (FNL exp) showed that the localized heavy rainfall area was not accurately simulated and that the simulated amount of precipitation was about 4% of the observed accumulated precipitation. That of the simulation using KLAPS analyses as initial and boundary data (KLAPC exp) showed that the localized heavy rainfall area was simulated on the northern area of Seoul-Gyeonggi area, which renders rather difference in location, and that the simulated amount was underestimated as about 6.4% of the precipitation. Finally, that of the simulation using an initial field made by assimilating the radar data to the KLAPS using 3DVAR system (KLAP3D exp) showed that the localized heavy rainfall area was located properly on Seoul-Gyeonggi area, but still the amount itself was underestimated as about 29% of the precipitation. Even though KLAP3D exp still showed an underestimation in the precipitation, it showed the best result among them. Even if it is difficult to generalize the effect of data assimilation by one case, this study showed that the radar data assimilation can somewhat improve the accuracy of the simulated precipitation.

기상청 GloSea의 위성관측 기반 토양수분(SMAP) 동화: 예비 실험 분석 (Assimilation of Satellite-Based Soil Moisture (SMAP) in KMA GloSea6: The Results of the First Preliminary Experiment)

  • A new soil moisture initialization scheme is applied to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) Global Seasonal forecasting system version 6 (GloSea6). It is designed to ingest the microwave soil moisture retrievals from Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) radiometer using the Local Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter (LETKF). In this technical note, we describe the procedure of the newly-adopted initialization scheme, the change of soil moisture states by assimilation, and the forecast skill differences for the surface temperature and precipitation by GloSea6 simulation from two preliminary experiments. Based on a 4-year analysis experiment, the soil moisture from the land-surface model of current operational GloSea6 is found to be drier generally comparing to SMAP observation. LETKF data assimilation shows a tendency toward being wet globally, especially in arid area such as deserts and Tibetan Plateau. Also, it increases soil moisture analysis increments in most soil levels of wetness in land than current operation. The other experiment of GloSea6 forecast with application of the new initialization system for the heat wave case in 2020 summer shows that the memory of soil moisture anomalies obtained by the new initialization system is persistent throughout the entire forecast period of three months. However, averaged forecast improvements are not substantial and mixed over Eurasia during the period of forecast: forecast skill for the precipitation improved slightly but for the surface air temperature rather degraded. Our preliminary results suggest that additional elaborate developments in the soil moisture initialization are still required to improve overall forecast skills.

태풍 수치모의에서 GPS-RO 인공위성을 사용한 관측 자료동화 효과 (Impact of GPS-RO Data Assimilation in 3DVAR System on the Typhoon Event)

  • In order to simulate a typhoon precisely, the satellite observation data has been assimilated using WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting model) three-Dimensional Variational (3DVAR) data assimilation system. The observation data used in 3DVAR was GPS Radio Occultation (GPS-RO) data which is loaded on Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. The refractivity of Earth is deduced by temperature, pressure, and water vapor. GPS-RO data can be obtained with this refractivity when the satellite passes the limb position with respect to its original orbit. In this paper, two typhoon cases were simulated to examine the characteristics of data assimilation. One had been occurred in the Western Pacific from 16 to 25 October, 2015, and the other had affected Korean Peninsula from 22 to 29 August, 2012. In the simulation results, the typhoon track between background (BGR) and assimilation (3DV) run were significantly different when the track appeared to be rapidly change. The surface wind speed showed large difference for the long forecasting time because the GPS-RO data contained much information in the upper level, and it took a time to impact on the surface wind. Along with the modified typhoon track, the differences in the horizontal distribution of accumulated rain rate was remarkable with the range of -600~500 mm. During 7 days, we estimated the characteristics between daily assimilated simulation (3DV) and initial time assimilation (3DV_7). Because 3DV_7 demonstrated the accurate track of typhoon and its meteorological variables, the differences in two experiments have found to be insignificant. Using observed rain rate data at 79 surface observatories, the statistical analysis has been carried on for the evaluation of quantitative improvement. Although all experiments showed underestimated rain amount because of low model resolution (27 km), the reduced Mean Bias and Root-Mean-Square Error were found to be 2.92 mm and 4.53 mm, respectively.

입자 필터를 이용한 월 물 수지 모형의 시간변화 매개변수 추정: 하천유량 자료의 동화 (Estimating time-varying parameters for monthly water balance model using particle filter: assimilation of stream flow data)

  • 수문 모형 매개변수는 모형 모의에 필수적이며, 지형, 기후조건, 기후변화와 인간 활동으로 인해 시간에 따라 달라질 수 있다. 결과적으로 고정된 매개변수의 사용은 부정확한 하천유량 모의로 이어질 수 있다. 본 연구의 목표는 하천유량 관측자료를 이용하여 시간에 따라 변하는 매개변수를 추정하는 방법을 살펴보고, 하천유량 자료가 모형에 동화될 때 모의 효율성이 어떻게 변하는지 분석하는 것이다. 자료 동화 방법은 변화하는 다양한 환경에 적응하여 수문 모형의 매개변수를 자동으로 추정하기 위하여 사용될 수 있다. 입자 필터를 이용하여 하천유량 관측치를 2개 매개변수 월 물 수지 모형에 동화했다. 자료 동화 방법으로 시간변화 매개변수를 사용한 모의 결과는 SCEM 방법으로 고정 매개변수를 사용한 모의 결과와 비교되었다. 먼저 다양한 시나리오에 기반한 합성 실험을 수행하여 입자 필터 방법이 시간에 따라 변화하는 매개변수를 적절하게 추적할 수 있는지를 살펴보았다. 이후 실제 유역에 적용하여 시간에 따라 변화하는 매개변수와 고정된 매개변수를 사용하였을 때의 하천유량 예측성능과 비교하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. (1) 전체적인 월 하천유량 시계열의 예측성능은 입자 필터 방법과 SCEM 방법이 서로 비슷하였다. (2) 우기를 제외한 시기의 월 유출고 예측성능은 자료 동화 방법을 이용한 주기적으로 변화하는 매개변수에 의한 모의가 더 우수하였다. (3) 동화에 사용되는 하천유량 관측자료의 불확실성은 입자 필터의 하천유량 예측성능에 중요한 역할을 하였다.

정량적 강수 예측을 위한 레이더 비강수 정보의 자료동화 (Data Assimilation of Radar Non-precipitation Information for Quantitative Precipitation Forecasting)

  • 본 연구에서는 레이더 관측 영역 내에 강수 에코(echo)가 없는 지역을 비강수 정보라고 정의하고 자료 동화에 활용하였다. 비강수 정보는 레이더로 관측할 수 있는 최대 영역 내에서 강수에 의한 에코가 나타나지 않고 레이더에서 관측할 수 없을 정도로 약한 강수나 구름 입자가 있거나, 강수 자체가 없다는 것을 의미한다. 기존의 레이더 자료를 동화한 연구가 강수에 의한 반사도와 시선속도를 동화하여 모델 내의 강수를 만들어내는 것에 초점을 두었다면, 본 연구에서는 에코가 없다는 것도 하나의 정보로 고려하고 이를 동화함으로써 모델 내에서 잘못 예측한 강수를 억제하였다. 비강수 정보를 자료동화에 적용시키기 위해 레이더 비강수 정보를 수상체와 상대습도로 변환하는 관측 연산자를 제시하고 이를 Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) 모델의 자료동화 시스템인 WRF Data Assimilation system (WRFDA)에 적용하였다. 또한 비강수 정보를 효과적으로 활용하기 위한 레이더 자료의 처리 방법을 제시하였다. 비강수 정보가 모델 내에서 잘못 예측한 강수를 억제할 수 있는지 확인하기 위해 단일 관측실험을 수행하였으며 비강수 정보가 수상체와 습도 그리고 기온을 낮춤으로써 대류가 억제될 수 있는 환경을 만들었다. 비강수 정보의 동화 효과를 실제 사례에 적용한 2013년 7월 23일 대류 사례 실험을 통해 9시간 예측을 수행하여 결과를 분석하였다. 레이더 비강수 정보를 추가로 동화한 실험이 비강수 정보를 제외한 실험보다 Fractional Skill Score (FSS)가 증가하고 False Alarm Ratio (FAR)는 감소하여 모델의 강수 예측성을 향상시켰다.

Effects of Ozone on $CO_2$ Assimilation and PSII Function in Two Tobacco Cultivars with Different Sensitivities

  • Two tobacco cultivars (Nicotiana tabacum L.), Bel-B and Bel-W3, tolerant and sensitive to ozone, respectively, were grown in a greenhouse supplied with charcoal filtered air and exposed to 200 ppb ozone for 4 hr. Effects on chlorophyll fluorescence, net photosynthesis, and stomatal conductance are described. Quantum yield was calculated from chlorophyll fluorescence and the initial slope of the assimilation-light curve measured by the gas exchange method. Only the sensitive cultivar, Bel-W3, developed visual injury symptoms on up to 50% of the $5^{th}$ leaf. The maximum net photosynthetic rate of ozone-treated plants was reduced 40% compared to control plants immediately after ozone fumigation in the tolerant cultivar; however, photosynthesis recovered by 24 hr post fumigation and remained at the same level as control plants. On the other hand, ozone exposure reduced maximum net photosynthesis up to 50%, with no recovery, in the sensitive cultivar apparently causing permanent damage to the photosystem. Reductions in apparent quantum efficiency, calculated from the assimilation-light curve, differed between cultivars. Bel-B showed an immediate depression of 14% compared to controls, whereas, Bel-W3 showed a 27% decline. Electron transport rate (ETR), at saturating light intensity, decreased 58% and 80% immediately after ozone treatment in Bel-B and Bel-W3, respectively. Quantum yield decreased 28% and 36% in Bel-B and Bel-W3, respectively. It can be concluded that ozone caused a greater relative decrease in linear electron transport than maximum net photosynthesis, suggesting greater damage to PSII than the carbon reduction cycle.

Cactus의 광합성과 질소동화작용에 관한 연구 - 한국산 쇠비름(Portulaca oleracea L.) - (A Study on Photosynthesis and Nitrogen Assimilation in Cactus -Portulaca oleracea L.-)

  • Crassulacean acid metaholism (CAM) was investigated in leaves and stems of the succulent $C_4$dicot Portulaca oleracea L. Under 14-hour days, stem tissues showed much greater fluctuation of acidity than leaf tissues. But leaf and stem tissues showed almost same CAM-like pattern of acid fluctuation under 8-hour days. Stem tissues of R oleracea grown under the naturai environment showed high CAM activity, but no CAM activity was seen in leaves of those plants. In the naturally growing plants, the rapid acidification was seen in intact stems at dawn, but defoliated stems showed only a gradual increase. RuBP carlboxylase activity was very high at 2:00 P.M. in both leaves and stems. However, its activity at 1:00 A.M. and 5:30 AM. was hardly detected. particularly, activity of PEP carboxylase in leaves was very high in the early morning, though that in stem tissues was little. These results indicate that $CO_2$ passed through open stomata at dawn may be assimilated by PEP carboxylase in leaves, and then $C_4$ products move to stems. The levels of nitrate concentration and of nitrate reductase were higher in stems than in leaves. The levels were also higher in the light than in the dark. It would be suggested that considerable amount of nitrate absorbed from roots ho assimilated in stems, and nitrate transferred to leaves via stem tissues be reduced there.
