환경경영시스템의 도입에 따른 중소기업의 환경경영 개선 (Improvement of Environmental Management in Small and Medium-Sized Firms through the Implementation of Environmental Management System)

  • As environmental issues have been become critical concerns of business, many domestic small and medium enterprises(SME's) are rapidly accepting environmental management systems(EMS) that confirm ISO 14001 guidelines. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of an empirical study carried out on a sample of certified SME's with the aim of identifying obstacles encountered in adopting ISO 14001 standards and the impact of environmental systems on corporate performance after implementation of the ISO 14001 registration process. Data from this study show that the vast majority of respondents reported environmental improvements related to the implementation of an ISO 14001 EMS, especially in the area of employees' participation of the environmental management and responsibilities for reducing negative impacts, energy and resource conservation, materials reuse, and raising top management commitment. The greatest obstacles for implementing the ISO 14001 standard are lack of cooperation and a scarcity of resources such as personnel, money, and time. Results of this study serve as a reference point understanding the problems in the implementation of ISO 14001 in other small and medium firms.

  • Organizations worldwide have implemented quality management system, ISO 9001:2000 and environmental management system, ISO 14001:2004. Researches have been conducted regarding occupational health and safety management system, integration of these management systems, and extension to corporate social responsibility and sustain ability management system, ISO 26000. This paper examines quality and environment management systems for machinery and metal companies using audit results. We perform statistical tests to see if there are any significant differences of minor nonconformities for requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 based on implementation motive, operating periods, and organization's size. We also present causes and reasons for statistical differences and minor nonconformities to use as references for implementing efficiently quality management system and environment management system.

  • Environmental pollution including air, land, and water has become one of the most critical issues in global interest. The damages due to environmental pollution lead to serious disasters. Nations have realized the importance of environment protection and have been starting to force organizations to implement environmental management system (EMS) as way of protecting environment. ISO 14001 requirements that are the most popular standard as EMS have been developed to support continuous improvement to environment management. It has been revised once since publication and ISO 14001 : 2004 version is currently available. Organizations globally started to acquire the certificate of EMS to observe environment related laws, accept customers' and stakeholders' request, increase market share, and fulfill implementation motives. This article examines the audit data that were collected for several years from manufacturing companies including shipbuilding, machinery, metal, automobiles, and chemical companies in southeastern Korea on the basis of ISO 14001 : 2004 requirements. The audit data were classified into minor nonconformities based on factors such as business size, business type, and EMS implementation period. We conduct hypotheses test using statistical methods in order to see if there are any significant differences based on the factors. We draw conclusions for the results of hypotheses test and address the necessities of energy, greenhouse gas, green management, and continuous improvement to enhance the efficiency of EMS implementation.

강원지역 중소기업의 환경경영 실태와 과제 (A Study on the Realities and the Subject of Environmental Management for Small and Medium-Sized Companies in Gangwon Area)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 ISO14001 인증 취득 현황조사를 통해 강원지역 중소기업의 환경경영 실태와 과제를 파악하고 환경경영의 활성화를 위한 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 2003년 4월 현재 우리나라의 ISO14001 인증획득 업체수는 1,215개 업체인데 비해 강원지역 중소기업의 ISO14001 인증획득 업체는 광역지방자치단체 중 최하위 수준인 26개 업체에 불과하였다. 둘째, 인증 미획득 기업들이 인증을 받지 않으려는 이유로 '인증 획득 및 유지에 소요되는 비용이 효익보다 크다'는 점을 제시하였다. 셋째, ISO14001 인증을 획득한 기업이나 ISO14001 인증 미획득 기업이나 인증을 획득한(하려는) 가장 큰 이유는 '기업의 이미지 향상'이었으며, 인증 획득기업이 환경경영시스템 도입 후 얻은 효과도 '기업의 이미지 향상'으로 나타났다. 넷째, ISO14001 인증을 획득한 기업들은 환경경영시스템을 도입할 때 문제점으로 '문서작성 및 비용에 관한 부담'과 '인력 부족'에 관한 응답이 많았다. 위와 같은 연구의 주요 결과를 바탕으로 강원지역 중소기업의 환경경영 활성화를 위한 과제와 방안을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, ISO14001 인증 미획득 기업 대부분이 ISO14001에 대한 인지도가 낮아 이에 대한 지속적이고 적극적인 홍보와 교육 및 연수제도가 필요하다는 점이다. 둘째, 환경경영 관련 인력이 부족함으로 전문 인력의 양성을 위한 교육프로그램의 실시, 보조금 지급의 확대, 전담부서 및 상담창구의 개설, 관련 정보의 데이터 베이스화나 소프트웨어의 개발이 필요하다. 셋째, 저렴한 비용과 간단한 절차를 통해 인증을 받을 수 있는 중소기업용 공적 인증제도의 신설, 혹은 단체인증제도, 공단 인증제도 등을 적극 고려할 필요가 있다.

  • Recently, many universities over the world are struggling to have the competitive edge. Some of them are implementing ISO management system for efficient administration processes and the safe and clean environment. For many years, ISO 9000 quality management systems have been adopted in the universities, while only a few universities are implementing ISO 14000 environmental management system in their educational systems. In this study, we proposed how to implement ISO 14001 1996(I) environmental management system in university and showed the case study of D College's ISO 14001 environmental management system.

  • Until now, our country environment management system are operated by past control system, but which system have many restrict to be familiar environment. Nowadays, many company try proactive control environment management system, specially by ISO 14001 system. In this paper we propose new Excellence Environmental Management Strategic which are compounded with Malcom Baldridge National Quality Award and ISO 14001.

  • In Japan, where ISO14001 certifications have passed the 10,000 mark, the need for environmental management has taken firm root among companies. However, in the small-and medium-enterprise sector, and among tiny businesses, there are firms not obtaining ISO certification due to their concern about human resources and increased work load. On the other hand, among businesses that have already succeeded in gaining ISO certification. one does not sense any growth with regard to the continual improvement. Voices from certain quarters indicate there is a lack of incentive to keep on improving. With this background, we herewith present a new system to evaluate the level of environmental management in a company by means of a 5-step system.

  • 2000년에 2차 개정된 품질경영시스템(ISO 9001:2000)과 2004년에 개정된 환경경영시스템(ISO 14001:2004)은 국제표준화기구(ISO)에서 요구사항들이 제정되었으나 안전보건경영시스템은 현재 ISO에서 국제표준이 제정되지 않아 각각 자국에 맞도록 개발되고 있다. 대기업에서는 최근 여러 경영시스템을 통합하여 도입, 운용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 세계 제 1의 조선 수주국으로 성장한 한국 조선업계 내의 조선 기자재업체들이 현재 운용중인 여러 가지 경영시스템과 통합경영시스템에 대한 현황 및 실태를 파악하고자 한다. 조선기자재 산업은 선박에 탑재되는 주 기관을 포함한 $450{\sim}500$여종의 다양한 선박용 제품을 공급하는 산업으로서 대형 조선소의 수주를 받아 제품생산이 이루어진다. 부산 경남 일원에 위치한 조선기자재 업체들을 대상으로 우편과 웹 기반 설문조사를 실시하여 수집된 자료를 근거로 하여 조선기자재 업체들과 여러 경영시스템들에 대한 인식도, 실행정도와의 관련성을 살펴보고, 업체들과 통합경영시스템의 필요성에 대한 인식, 통합경영시스템 추진단계, 통합경영시스템의 장점에 대한 통계적 분석을 실행하고 그 결과를 정리한다.

  • Many companies consider environment management system as the main back-bone system. Also, risk management is considered as hot issue in world wide leading companies. In view of efficiency , it is necessary to combine or integrate the environment management system and the risk management system. In this paper, we aim to propose an approach to integrate the environment management system(ISO 14001) and the risk management system (JIS Q 2001).

  • This study presented a model of enterprise that operates an integrated system, and studied about an integrated element of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 standard. In addition to this, it grasped what the obstacle elements are in use of an integrated system, and analyzed the effect in use of an integrated system through the survey on 58 enterprises that operate an integrated system, From the result of this study, we have known that the obstacle elements in operation of an integrated system are in lack of understanding of process, in lack of execution ability of system, in unfamiliarity of system and lack of willingness of the executives.
