  • In geo-spatial information system building and operation, metadata is one of the crucial factors. Therefore, international and domestic organizations or associations for standardization have developed and distributed geo-based standard metadata to meet public demands. However, because metadata is composed of complicated elements and needs XML storage and management, individual organization which implement and operate practical application system is inclined to define and use its own metadata specifications. In this study, metadata extraction program, that metadata elements are directly extracted from geo-based file formats was developed to easily utilize standard metadata such as ISO/TC 19115, TTAS.KO-10.0139 and TTAS.IS-19115, and those elements are processed into XML. Furthermore, geo-based images sets are applied to another metadata of ISO/TC 19115-2. As well, metadata transformation is needed due to inconsistent or non-corresponding definition among standard metadata; in this program, transformation modules are also implemented to interoperable uses between standard metadata specifications. Widely used data formats are dealt with in this program, but extension for other formats and other metadata specifications is possible, and it is expected that availability of standard metadata is increased, through this kind of development.

  • Inundation Maps are used to predict potential areas of flooding through the signs of past flooding and flood inundation analysis for flooding expected in the future, and this has led to the development of various forms of disaster-related services by governments. However, each institution has its own individual scenarios for making maps for spatial expression. Therefore, the type of spatial information is not standardized and has many forms and structures. In this study, we attempted to design the metadata that would allow Inundation Map information to be shared and used in various fields. The international standard, ISO 19115, and the domestic standards, KS X ISO 19115, TTAS.IS - 19115 and TTAS.KO - 10.0139/R1 of TTA, were used in the design to derive an appropriate standard for comparative analysis by dividing into maintenance, constraints, metadata, spatial reference system, identification, and distribution. It is expected that inundation maps will be easier to utilize and distribute among institutions and private companies by systematically collecting and managing them through the metadata design based vector space information standard developed in this study.

  • Spatial information has recently been recognized as one of the major subjects of interest in information technology. With increasing variety and quantity of spatial data on the web, searching and maintaining these data are becoming a much focussed area of research. Interoperability is the key technology in solving the complexities of spatial data in web services. The problem of maintenance and searching of spatial data in an interoperable web service environment can be solved by establishing standardized metadata of spatial information. Then using the standardized metadata, catalog web services can be deployed for autonomous searching and binding of spatial data. This study investigates the international standard for spatial data metadata(ISO/TC211 19115) and deployed catalog web service based on this metadata. Various heterogeneous spatial data of Seoul Metropolitan region were then used for experimental implementation of catalog web service.

  • This study aims at designing standard metadata that can be incorporated for advanced utilization of damage prediction maps, and thereby constructing the standard meta-information management prototype system on the basis of the proposed design. Based on the ISO/TC 211 19115 international standard, which is considered as the most widely used standard (as per the results of a domestic and foreign metadata standard survey), the designing process for the standard metadata was established and the metadata was categorized into nine classes. Additionally, based on the output of the standard metadata design process, a standard meta-information management prototype system, capable of checking and downloading meta-property information, was constructed using the JAVASCRIPT language. By incorporating the obtained results, it is possible to maintain the quality of the constructed damage prediction map by establishing a standardized damage prediction map database. Furthermore, disaster response can be actuated through the provision and management of data for effective operation of the proposed damage prediction system.
