  • The prediction of heat-up time of an LCD glass plate in LCD glass pre-treatment process has been implemented in the present study. Firstly, the analytical solution for one-dimensional radiation heat transfer from IR heaters to a LCD glass plate is obtained. When the surface temperature of the IR heaters is set at 473 K, the heat-up time of LCD glass to averaged temperature of 383K is 28 seconds. In addition, a three dimensional full CFD analysis using STAR-CD is implemented in an effort to consider the effect of 3-D heat loss through the furnace walls. From the results of the 3-D CFB analysis, the heat-up time increases up to 32.5 seconds under the same conditions. When the IR heater temperature in creases up to 573 K, the heat-up time decreases to 12 seconds for the one-dimensional analytical solution and to 13.5 seconds for the 3-D CFD analysis, respectively.

  • Chalcogenide glasses having IR (8~12${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) transmittance were prepared and their densities, thermal and mechanical properties, IR-transmittances and chemical durabilities were determined. Glass transition temperatures (Tg) of Ge-As-Se, Ge-As-Se-Te and Ge-SE-Te system glasses were in the range of 280~3$65^{\circ}C$, 210~236$^{\circ}C$ and 210~26$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Crystallization temperature (Tc) of Ge-Se-Te system glass was in the range of 305~40$0^{\circ}C$. Their thermal expansion coefficients($\alpha$) were in the range of 11.7~15.2$\times$10-6/K, 15.4~16.0$\times$10-6/K and 17.4~27.8$\times$10-6/K, respectively. Their MOR, hardness and fracture toughness were in the range of 15.2~18.6MPa, 36.1~58.2Kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, 1.0~1.3 MPa.mm1/2, 18.9~24.9 MPa, 40.9~65.1Kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, 1.3~1.5 MPa.mm1/2, and 24.1~30.8 MPa, 40.9~86.0Kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, 1.4~1.8 MPa.mm1/2, respectively. IR transmittance of Ge-Se-Te system glass was about 60%. Ge-O extrinsic absorption peaks at 8, 12 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were significantly eliminated by the addition of Mg. Chemical durabilities in deionizied water of Ge-Se-Te system glass were good and IR-transmittances decreased with leaching time and temperature.

  • The chalcogenide glass has superior optical properties in IR region transmittances. We have determined the composition of GeSbSe chalcogenide glass for the application of good IR lenses, resulting in the composite rate of $Ge_{19}Sb_{23}Se_{58}$. The optical, structural, thermal and physical properties were measured by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), X-ray computed tomography (X-ray CT) respectively. The fabrication of the chalcogenide glass lens for infrared optics applications was proposed using a diamond turning machining technology which is known as the suitable ways for the production cost reduction and the accurate fabrication process control.

  • The nucleation and the crystal growth rates of Ge-Se-Te chalcogenide glass by two step heat-treatment and its effect on the mechanical optical properties and water-resistance were determined. The maximum nuclea-tion and crystal growth rate were 2.1$\times$103/mm3 .min at 28$0^{\circ}C$ and 0.4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/min at 33$0^{\circ}C$ respectively. When the crystal volume fraction with crystal size $1.5mutextrm{m}$ was about 4% the (hardness and fracture toughness were about 117kg/mm2 and 6.0 MPa.mm1/2)respectively. The weight loss of crystallized glass in water was lower than parent glass($25^{\circ}C$ for 32 hrs : 0.03% 8$0^{\circ}C$ for 16 hrs : 0.1%) as 0.01% at $25^{\circ}C$, 0.03% at 8$0^{\circ}C$ for 16 hrs : 0.1%) at $25^{\circ}C$ 0.03% at 8$0^{\circ}C$ respectively. The IR-transmittance decreased with increasing crystal size and crystal volume fraction. The IR-transmittance of crystallized glass with the crystal size of $1.5mutextrm{m}$ (crystal volume fraction : 4%) presented 56% which was about 4% lower than that of parent glass.

  • Aspheric glass lens have recently been used in camera phone module because they are more effective than spherical ones. In this paper, the grinding condition of the tungsten carbide molding core has been found after applying DOE to the development of the aspheric glass lens for the 3 Megapixel and 2.5x camera-phone module. Also, the ultra precision grinding process was investigated under this condition by experiment. Re-Ir coating was applied on the ground surface of the tungsten carbide molding core. The influence of Re-Ir coating on the form accuracy and surface roughness of molding core was compared and evaluated. The form accuracy and surface roughness of the molding core were improved by application of Re-Ir coating on the surface of the tungsten carbide molding core.

  • Chalcogenide glass has superior property of optical transmittance in the infrared region. Glass made using Ge-Se how many important optical applications. We have determined the composite formular of $Ge_{0.25}Se_{0.75}$ to be the GeSe chalcogenide glass composition appropriate for IR lenses. Also, the optical, thermal and physical characteristics of chalcogenide glass depended on the composition ratio. GeSe bulk sample is produced using the traditional melt-quenching method. The optical, structural, thermal and physical properties of the compound were measured by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and Scanning electron microscope (SEM) respectively.

  • The IR edge absorption of the important pure components of ZrF4-based glasses, including two previously uncharacterized components(ZrF4 and AlF3), has been measured. Values of the glass IR edge absorption coefficients have been calculated from these results, assuming additivity, and are compared with experimental glass absorption coefficients. The calculated ${\alpha}$ values are about a factor of two lower than the experimental values for ZrF4-based glasses, and the ZrF4 makes the largest contribution to the calculated ${\alpha}$ value.
