Novel ZCS-PFM Series Resonant High Frequency Inverter for Electromagnetic Induction Eddy Current-Heated Roller

  • This paper presents a novel prototype of zero current switching pulse frequency modulation (ZCS-PFM )high frequency series resonant inverter using IGBT power module for electromagnetic induction eddy current heated roller in copy and printing machines. The operating principle and unique features of this voltage-fed half bridge inverter with two additional soft commutation inductor snubber are presented including the transformer modeling of induction heated rolling drum. This soft switching inverter can achieve stable zero current soft commutation under a discontinuous and continuous resonant load current for a widely specified power regulation processing. The experimental results and computer-aided analysis of this inverter are discussed from a practical point of view.

  • This paper proposes a new auxiliary resonant commutated pole (ARCP) inverter which has a modified auxiliary circuit. The proposed auxiliary circuit includes two auxiliary IGBT switches, an LC resonant circuit, and two clamping diodes. In order to analyze the performance of proposed ARCP inverter, computer simulations with PSCAD, and hardware experiments were carried out. Through analyzing the experimental results, it is known that the proposed ARCP inverter offers efficiency improvement of 1.5% compared with the hard-switching inverter.

Thermal Performance of a Heat Sink According to Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor Array and Installation Location (IGBT 배열과 설치 위치에 따른 히트 싱크 방열 성능)

  • Thermal performance of a heat sink for an inverter power stack was analyzed in terms of array and installation location of an Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT). Thermal flow around the heat sink was calculated with a numerical model that could simulate forced convection. Thermal performance was calculated depending on the array and location of high- and low-power IGBTs considering the maximum temperature of IGBT. The optimum array and installation location were found and causes were analyzed based on results of numerical analysis. For the numerical analysis, experiment design considered the installation location of IGBT, ratio of heat generation rates of high- and low-power IGBTs, and velocity of the inlet air as design variables. Based on numerical results, a correlation that could calculate thermal performance of the heat sink was suggested and the maximum temperature of the IGBT could be predicted depending on the installation method.

  • This Paper is about the study that design performance and reliability measurement circuits of the IPM which is an intelligent switching switch module included at an inverter circuits for driving of A.C. Servo motors in home appliance. IPM is a core device of motor driver and it's switching characteristics should be retained uniformly during the driving of a servo system. All of it's specification, the collector emitter switch on voltage Vce(on) spec. is very important. As the IPM are core part of inverters and producing from several brands and versions, for optimal performances of application systems a method and measurement & evaluation system to measure Vce(on) value, collector emitter switch on voltage, of the IPM IGBT switches with various brands are required. Especially, the proposed method can measure and evaluate Vce(on) values of IPM with load at mounting state on the motor driving circuits and proposed measurement & evaluation system can be important instrument systems for IPM user companies.

  • This paper presents a cost effective quasi-resonant soft-switching PWM high frequency inverter with minimum circuit components. This inverter can achieve wider soft commutation, simpler power circuit configuration, smaller volumetric size, lower cost and wider power regulation range, higher-efficiency as compared with single ended quasi-resonant ZVS-PFM inverter and active voltage clamped quasi-resonant ZVS-PWM inverter. The operation principle of the proposed inverter is described on the basis of the simulation and experimental results, together with its operating performances in steady state. The operating performances of this unique proposed high frequency inverter based on ZVS and ZCS arms-related soft commutation principle is evaluated and discussed as compared with the active voltage-clamped ZVS-PWM inverter and a conventional single-ended ZVS-PFM inverter. The practical effectiveness of a novel type quasi-resonant soft-switching PWM high frequency inverter using IGBT is actually proved for consumer induction heated appliances as rice cooker, hot water producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The extended bidirectional circuit topology of quasi-resonant PWM high frequency inverter with minimum circuit components is demonstrated, which operate as the direct frequency changer.

  • The ESS(Energy Storage System) connected with distributed generation is drawing attention due to improving the quality load leveling, peak shaving for enhancing reliability of the power grid. The grid-connected inverter makes frequency adjustment to the active power's charge discharge according to the load variation. In addition, the inverter is possible to act as a reactive power compensation device to eliminate harmonic operates as power factor change inhibiting, anti-transient voltage fluctuation, active filter. In this paper, we propose a design method of igbt stack considering the reactive power supply capacity to improve the quality and reliability of the inverter. Moreover, the grid-connected inverter considering the four-quadrant rated operation designed stack and verified the feasibility of the design through a thermal analysis.

  • Induction-heated system is innovative system which applied IH(Induction Heating) magnetic induction heating generated from induction-heated metallic package and high-frequency power circuit technique for thermal converse technique. In this occurs not burning, so that the working environment and deterioration of products can be improved. This technique is used high frequency inverter. By using high frequency inverter high frequency in the range of kHz can be made with conventional alternative current. In this contribution IGBT module is used for high frequency inverter. In this paper are discussed analysis of characteristics according to the each frequency and produced Flat plate induction heating system using 1.5kW-class half-bridge resonant inverter. In addition, operating characteristics of the system to changes in the distance between the coil and the heater, applications of system are also discussed.

  • In this paper, the inverter switch losses of BLDC motor for three types of PWM method and power devices was analyzed. When BLDC motor is driven at low currents, inverter switch losses for MOSFET is low because MOSFET operates like resistance. But, inverter switch losses for IGBT is higher than MOSFET due to its large turn-off losses. For low power inverter with MOSFET, the power losses of unified PWM is lower than that of unipolar and bipolar PWM.

  • The photovoltaic inverter is a system which transforms the solar energy to the electrical energy. Because the output of photovoltaic inverter depends on solar radiation, it is necessary to save generated power or to interface with utility line. This paper describes a 2KVA photovoltaic inverter utilizing IGBT, designed to have a very high efficiency in stand alone mode and to have the function synchronizing the phase between inverter and utility voltage as a fundamental study for utility interactive mode.
