Advanced Sensor Communication Algorithm based on IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee for High Speed Train Environment (고속 철도 환경을 위한 IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee 기반 개선된 센서 통신 알고리즘)

  • Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is used in the railway field in terms of efficient management and maintenance. Sensor communication technology based on IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee is used in low speed train. However, it is difficult to apply in the high speed train that exposed to severe wireless channel environments. In this paper, we propose the sensor communication algorithm for high speed train environment. we improve error rate and throughput using Equalizer, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), Flexible Spreading Factor (SF) and Modulation. Also, we have analyzed the performance of the IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee based on the standard of physical layer of 2.4GHz band in each algorithms. Simulation results show that proposed algorithms can improve error rate and throughput of conventional system.

Improved MSI Based Scheduling and Admission Control Algorithm for IEEE 802.l1e Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.l1e 무선랜에서 MSI를 이용한 개선된 스케줄링 및 수락제어 알고리즘)

  • IEEE 802.lie is being proposed to improve QoS by IEEE 802.11 working group. HCCA (HCF Controlled Channel Access) a centralized polling based mechanism of IEEE 802.11e, needs a scheduling algorithm that decides on how the available radio resources are allocated to the polled STAs. In IEEE 802.l1e standard Reference Scheduler is presented. Reference Scheduler Polls all STAs in a polling list by the same interval that causes ineffectively frequent polling. It increases not only the overhead but it decreases the TXOP (Transmission Opportunity) utilization. In this paper, we propose the scheduling and admission control algorithm that poll stations depending on the MSI (Maximum Service Interval)o( stations to solve these shortcomings. In our proposed algorithm a station is polled by an interval close to its MSI, so polling overhead decrease and TXOP utilization increases than Reference Scheduler. Simulation results show that our algorithm outperforms Reference Scheduler. Our algorithm maintains higher aggregate throughput and services mere stations than Reference Scheduler.

Beamforming Training for Asymmetric Links in IEEE 802.11ay: Implementation and Performance Evaluation

  • In this paper, we present Beamforming (BF) Training (BFT) for asymmetric links in IEEE 802.11ay. IEEE 802.11ay introduced BFT for asymmetric links that aims to increase the BFT success probability for Station (STA) with insufficient link budget to communicate with an Access Point (AP). BFT for asymmetric links utilizes directional BFT allocation to avoid the usage of quasi-omni pattern at the AP side, and thus to increase STA's BFT success rate. However, there are no publicly available simulation tools supporting IEEE 802.11ay. For these reasons, we present in this paper an implementation of BFT for asymmetric links in ns-3 with its novel techniques such as Training RX (TRN-R) subfield and BFT allocation. We then evaluate by simulation the performance of BFT for asymmetric links.

Systematic Transmission Method of Industrial IEEE 802.15.4 for Real-time Mixed Traffic (실시간 혼합 트래픽 전송을 위한 산업용 IEEE 802.15.4 망의 체계적 전송 기법)

  • In this paper, dynamic GTS scheduling method based on IEEE 802.15.4 is proposed for wireless control system considering reliability and real-time property. The proposed methods can guarantee a transmission of real-time periodic and sporadic data within the limited time frame in factory environment. The superframe of IEEE 802.15.4 is used for the dynamic transmission method of real-time mixed traffic (periodic data, sporadic data, and non real-time message). By separating CFP and CAP properly, the periodic, sporadic, and non real-time messages are transmitted effectively and guarantee real-time transmission within a deadline. The simulation results show the improvement of real-time performance of periodic and sporadic data at the same time.

A Fast Handoff Algorithm for IEEE 802.11 WLANs using Dynamic Scanning Time (가변적인 탐색시간을 이용한 IEEE 802.11 무선랜의 고속 핸드오프 알고리듬)

  • As the Internet usage grows, people want to access the Internet while they are moving. To satisfy this requirement economically, IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs(WLANs) are rapidly deployed. In order to support mobility, WLANs must provide smooth handoff mechanism. Recent studies show, however, handoff delay of WLANs exceeds 300ms, most of which is due to slow scanning mechanism finding a new AP. With this handoff delay, current WLANs is not suitable to provide seamless realtime interactive services such as VoIP sevice. In this paper, we analyze the current handoff method of IEEE 802.11 and we propose a new handoff algorithm which can decrease time needed for searching a new AP and thus reduce overall handoff time. We show by simulation that the proposed algorithm has shorter handoff delay than current handoff method.

  • This paper presents the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) estimation based on A-Preamble of IEEE 802.16m IMT-Advanced WiMax system with simulation results. The downlink signal of IEEE 802.16m has two kinds of A-Preambles: the PA-Preamble and the SA-Preamble. This paper proposes the effective method of estimating SNR and SINR with A-Preambles, and also shows that this method can recognize the ICI(Inter-Carrier-Interference) occurrence due to doppler frequency. With the recognition of ICI, the mobile station can save the power by operating 1-tap equalizer in usual cases, and activating ICI mitigation module only when it perceives the ICI occurrence.

Partitioned Contention Access Mechanism to Enhance the Performance of IEEE 802.15.4 MAC Layer (IEEE 802.15.4 MAC 계층의 성능 향상을 위한 분할 경합 접근 방식)

  • In IEEE 802.15.4 beacon-enabled mode, performance decreases as the number of devices competing in the contention access period(CAP) increases. In this letter, we propose partitioned contention access mechanism(PCAM) to compensate performance degradation. In PCAM, the PAN coordinator divides CAP into two sub-periods and activity of devices is delimited in their assigned sub-periods. Since PCAM reduces the number of devices which compete at the same time by half, collision probability between transmitted frames can be reduced. In addition, devices can save their power consumption because PCAM shorten the duration that devices stay in active state into half. We perform simulations to compare the performance of PCAM with that of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. From the result, PCAM yields better performance than IEEE 802.15.4 standard.

Design of Time Synchronization Mechanism of Wireless USB over IEEE 802.15.6 (WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6 WBAN 프로토콜의 시각 동기 구조 설계)

  • Wearable computer systems can use the wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) that refers to USB technology that is merged with WiMedia PHY/MAC technical specifications. In this paper, we focus on an integrated system of the wireless USB over the IEEE 802.15.6 wireless body area networks (WBAN) for wireless wearable computer systems supporting U-health services. And a communication structure that performs the time-synchronization is proposed for WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6 hierarchical protocol. Proposed time-synchronization mechanisms adopt the WBAN Polling Access and combine it with a time-synchronization middleware using time stamps. In our performance evaluations, time-synchronization performances with only WBAN Polling Access scheme are analyzed first. After that, performances combined with the time-synchronization middleware are analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed time-synchronization structure in WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6.

Hibernation Structure Design of Wireless USB over IEEE 802.15.6 Hierarchical MAC Protocol (WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6 통합 MAC 프로토콜의 Hibernation 구조 설계)

  • Wearable computer systems can use the wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) that refers to USB technology that is merged with WiMedia PHY/MAC technical specifications. In this paper, we focus on an integrated system of the wireless USB over the IEEE 802.15.6 wireless body area networks (WBAN) for wireless wearable computer systems supporting U-health services. And a communication structure that performs the hibernation for low power consumption is proposed for WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6 hierarchical protocol. In the proposed hibernation mechanisms, WUSB communications are permitted at each m-periodic inactive periods of WBAN superframes by using the WBAN information of Wakeup Period and Wakeup Phase message fields. In our performance evaluations, performances according to amount of WUSB traffic and Wakeup Periods are analyzed respectively to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed hibernation structure in WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6.

A study on the Channel Estimation Scheme in IEEE 802.11 Based System (IEEE 802.11 기반 시스템에서 채널추정에 관한 연구)

  • Wireless LAN system is evolving toward high-speed data transmission and more accurate channel estimation is necessarily required to improve communication performance. The PLCP preamble field in IEEE 802.11 based wireless MODEM consists of ten short symbols and two long symbols and is used for synchronization and channel estimation. The existing least square (LS) channel estimation is based on only two long training symbols. After estimating channel response separately by using each long training symbol, the final channel estimation is obtained by the average of each estimation. In this paper, a new channel estimation algorithm is presented to improve the performance of the existing LS channel estimation algorithm. From the fact that the short training symbol consists of 12 non-zero subcarriers, it gives us a clue of being able to additionally estimate at least one fourth of channel coefficients. The new LS algorithm performs channel estimation based on both two long training symbols and a short training symbol. The proposed LS algorithm shows a little bit performance improvement over the existing LS estimation and it will be able to be applied to the IEEE 802.11p WAVE system.
