  • The reference impedances which is about 95% supply impedance value of residential consumers' supply impedances was published by IEC in 1980. The reference impedances are the standard values for use in determining the voltage disturbance characteristics of electrical equipment like the flicker. In IEC 60725, the reference impedances for premises having service current capacities less than 100A per phase and for service current capacities more than 100A per phase are recommended. And these reference impedances are targeted for the countries using 50Hz power frequency. Because of the frequency difference, the reactance values of the reference impedances will be increased in 60Hz power system like Korea, And also the reference impedances are different significantly each other according to declared voltage variation, power consumption and service wire length etc. Therefore It is needed to calculate the reference impedances suitable for domestic low-voltage power system. In this paper, the reference impedances for service current capacities less than 100A in 220/380V, 60Hz single-phase two wire and three-phase four wire low-voltage system are calculated, And the equations for service current capacities more than 100A to calculate the modulus value of maximum supply impedances are suggested base on IEC 60725 and the reference impedances for those are calculated on service current of 100A per phase.

  • Home appliances, like air-conditionals, washers, refrigerators, etc., can cause voltage fluctuations and light flicker. A standardized flicker test has been established in Europe(IEC 61000-3-3, IEC 61000-3-11). The supply impedance of power supply system varies from plate to place, and for the flicker test in KOREA, the appliance manufacturers do need standardized impedance like the one indicated in IEC 61000-3-3 for 230[V]/50[Hz]. Without it, the same appliance will have different flicker level at different places. For appliance manufacturers, the flicker limit should be related to the reference impedance. However, the European flicker test is designed for 230[V]/50[Hz] power and needs to be modified for a 1P2W(220[V]/60[Hz]) supply system in KOREA. In this paper, the reference impedance for KOREA(220[V]/60[Hz]) systems is proposed. The measured result provided in this paper was served as a proposal for establishing KOREA reference impedance for 220[V]/60[Hz] and has been published in IEC 60725.

  • The maximum allowable value of loop impedance($Z_s$) to secure the operation of overcurrent protective devices and the safety for indirect contact is a very important in TN-C-S system. The loop impedance is divided into inner loop impedance which consumer can adjust and external loop impedance($Z_e$) which only electric operator can adjust. Thus, an external loop impedance which limits to less than a certain value is a very important factor for human body protection against electric shock in TN-C-S system. The concept of loop impedance($Z_s$) is recently introduced to the domestic, the study about external loop impedance is yet insufficient. However, the study about the reference impedance as specified by the IEC 60725 standard to improve the quality and reliability of the power supply is being made. In this paper, reference value of external loop impedance($Z_e$) to meet domestic environment will be proposed by the nationwide measurement and statistical analysis.
