Rainfall characteristics in Korea are concentrated during the summer flood season. In particular, when a large amount of turbid water flows into the dam due to the increasing trend of concentrated rainfall due to abnormal rainfall and abnormal weather conditions, prolonged turbid water phenomenon occurs due to the overturning phenomenon. Much research is being conducted on turbid water prediction to solve these problems. To predict turbid water, turbid water data from the upstream inflow is required, but spatial and temporal data resolution is currently insufficient. To improve temporal resolution, the development of the Turbidity-SS conversion equation is necessary, and to improve spatial resolution, multi-item water quality measurement instrument (YSI), Laser In-Situ Scattering and Transmissometry (LISST), and hyperspectral sensors are needed. Sensor-based measurement can improve the spatial resolution of turbid water by measuring line and surface unit data. In addition, in the case of LISST-200X, it is possible to collect data on particle size, etc., so it can be used in the Turbidity-SS conversion equation for fraction (Clay: Silt: Sand). In addition, among recent remote sensing methods, the spatial distribution of turbid water can be presented when using UAVs with higher spatial and temporal resolutions than other payloads and hyperspectral sensors with high spectral and radiometric resolutions. Therefore, in this study, the Turbidity-SS conversion equation was calculated according to the fraction through laboratory analysis using LISST-200X and YSI-EXO, and sensor-based field measurements including UAV (Matrice 600) and hyperspectral sensor (microHSI 410 SHARK) were used. Through this, the spatial distribution of turbidity and suspended sediment concentration, and the turbidity calculated using the Turbidity-SS conversion equation based on the measured suspended sediment concentration, was presented. Through this, we attempted to review the applicability of the Turbidity-SS conversion equation and understand the current status of turbid water occurrence.

Recently the water management department advised the water treatment industry to focus on deploy the chemical free and the environmentally responsible process to adopt on water treatment plants in every country. In this objective, water treatment process started using ultrasonic based phycocyanin extraction with fluorescence measurement techniques to detect the change in the yield of phycocyanin. This paper propose the design of optical filter model for fluorescence technique based immersive optical phycocyanin measurement sensor design. The proposed design uses the multi-wavelength sensor module for irradiating part, and this plays a role of removing a wavelength band other than 590 ~ 620 nm. The preliminary study on immersed phycocyanin sensor, the fluorescence value of picocyanin according to the ultrasonic intensity, treatment time and number of cells was measured using JM phycocyanin module to emulate the proposed design, and were compared performance of the proposed sensor emulation. In this design, the phycocyanin fluorescence value increased about 2.1 ~ 4.7 times as the ultrasonic treatment time increased as compared with JM phycocyanin module, and the phycocyanin fluorescence value within the analysis range was obtained by ultrasonic treatment within one minute.

Maritime accidents around the Korean Peninsula are increasing, and the ship detection research using remote sensing data is consequently becoming increasingly important. This study presented a new ship detection algorithm using hyperspectral images that provide the spectral information of several hundred channels in the ship detection field, which depends on high resolution optical imagery. We applied a spectral matching algorithm between the reflection spectrum of the ship deck obtained from two field observations and the ship and seawater spectrum of the hyperspectral sensor of an airborne visible/infrared imaging spectrometer. A total of five detection algorithms were used, namely spectral distance similarity (SDS), spectral correlation similarity (SCS), spectral similarity value (SSV), spectral angle mapper (SAM), and spectral information divergence (SID). SDS showed an error in the detection of seawater inside the ship, and SAM showed a clear classification result with a difference between ship and seawater of approximately 1.8 times. Additionally, the present study classified the vessels included in hyperspectral images by presenting the adaptive thresholds of each technique. As a result, SAM and SID showed superior ship detection abilities compared to those of other detection algorithms.

High-resolution images using remote sensing (RS) is importance to secure for spatial classification depending on the characteristics of the complex and various factors that make up the river environment. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of the classification results and to suggest the possibility of applying the high resolution hyperspectral images obtained by using the drone to perform spatial classification. Hyperspectral images obtained from study area were reduced the dimensionality with PCA and MNF transformation to remove effects of noise. Spatial classification was performed by supervised classifications such as MLC(Maximum Likelihood Classification), SVM(Support Vector Machine) and SAM(Spectral Angle Mapping). In overall, the highest classification accuracy was showed when the MLC supervised classification was used by MNF transformed image. However, it was confirmed that the misclassification was mainly found in the boundary of some classes including water body and the shadowing area. The results of this study can be used as basic data for remote sensing using drone and hyperspectral sensor, and it is expected that it can be applied to a wider range of river environments through the development of additional algorithms.

The increased transport of marine hazardous and noxious substances (HNS) has resulted in frequent HNS spill accidents domestically and internationally. There are about 6,000 species of HNS internationally, and most of them have toxic properties. When an accidental HNS spill occurs, it can destroys the marine ecosystem and can damage life and property due to explosion and fire. Constructing a spectral library of HNS according to wavelength and developing a detection algorithm would help prepare for accidents. In this study, a ground HNS spill experiment was conducted in France. The toluene spectrum was determined through hyperspectral sensor measurements. HNS present in the hyperspectral images were detected by applying the spectral mixture algorithm. Preprocessing principal component analysis (PCA) removed noise and performed dimensional compression. The endmember spectra of toluene and seawater were extracted through the N-FINDR technique. By calculating the abundance fraction of toluene and seawater based on the spectrum, the detection accuracy of HNS in all pixels was presented as a probability. The probability was compared with radiance images at a wavelength of 418.15 nm to select abundance fractions with maximum detection accuracy. The accuracy exceeded 99% at a ratio of approximately 42%. Response to marine spills of HNS are presently impeded by the restricted access to the site because of high risk of exposure to toxic compounds. The present experimental and detection results could help estimate the area of contamination with HNS based on hyperspectral remote sensing.

This study calculated vegetation indexes such as SR, NDVI, SAVI, and LAI to figure out correlations regarding vegetation by using high resolution KOMPSAT-2 images and LANDSAT images based on the forest biomass distribution map that utilized field survey data, satellite images and LiDAR data and then analyzed correlations between their values and forest biomass. The analysis results reveal that the vegetation indexes of high resolution KOMPSAT-2 images had higher correlations than those of LANDSAT images and that NDVI recorded high correlations among the vegetation indexes. In addition, the study analyzed the characteristics of hyperspectral images by using the COMIS of STSAT-3 and Hyperion images of a similar sensor, EO-1, and further the usability of biomass estimation in hyperspectral images by comparing vegetation index, which had relatively high correlations with biomass, with the vegetation indexes of LANDSAT with the same GSD conditions.

Spectroradiometers have recently been drawing great attention in earth observing communities for its capability for obtaining target's quantitative properties. In particular, light-weighted multispectral cameras are gaining popularity in many field domains, as being utilized on UAV's. Despite the importance of the radiometric accuracy, studies are scarce on the performance of the inexpensive multispectral camera sensors that have various applications in agricultural, vegetation, and water quality analysis. This study conducted assessment of radiometric accuracy for MicaSense RedEdge-MX multispectral camera, by comparing the radiometric data with an independent hyperspectral sensor having NIST-traceable calibration quality. The comaprison showed that radiance from RedEdge-MX is lower than that of TriOS RAMSES by 5 to 16% depending on the bands, and the irradiance from RedEdge-MX is also lower than RAMSES by 1~20%. The correction coefficients for RedEdge-MX alculated through the 1-st and the 3-rd order regression analysis were presented as a result of the study.

Remote sensing and measurement are of paramount importance of providing information on the state of water quality in water bodies. The formation and growth of cyanobacteria is of serious concern to in land aquatic life forms and human life. The main cause of water quality deterioration stems from anthropogenic induced eutrophication. The goal of this research to quantify and determine the spatial distribution of cyanobacteria concentration in the water using remote sensing technique. The standard approach to measure water quality based on the direct measurement of the fluorescence of the chlorophyll a in the living algal cells and the same approach used to detect the phycobilin pigments found in blue-green algae (a.k.a. cyanobacteria), phycocyanin and phycoerythrin. This paper propose the emerging sensor design to measure the water quality based on the optical analysis by fluorescence of the phycocyanin pigment. In this research, we developed an method to sense and quantify to derive phycocyanin intensity index for estimating cyanobacteria concentrations. The development of the index was based on the reflectance difference between visible light band 620nm and 665nm. As a result of research this paper presents, an optical biological sensor design information to measure the Phycocyanin parameters in water content.

The rapid growth of algae occurs can induce the algae bloom when nutrients are supplied from anthropogenic sources such as fertilizer, animal waste or sewage in runoff the water currents or upwelling naturally. The algae blooms creates the human health problem in the environment as well as in the water resource managers including hypoxic dead zones and harmful toxins and pose challenges to water treatment systems. The algal blooms in the source water in water treatment systems affects the drinking water taste & odor while clogging or damaging filtration systems and putting a strain on the systems designed to remove algal toxins from the source water. This paper propose the emerging In-Situ self-diagnosable smart algae sensing device with wireless connectivity for smart remote monitoring and control. In this research, we developed the In-Site Algae diagnosable sensing device with wireless sensor network (WSN) connectivity with Optical Biological Sensor and environmental sensor to monitor the water treatment systems. The proposed system emulated in real-time on the water treatment plant and functional evaluation parameters are presented as part of the conceptual proof to the proposed research.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the reflectance of bed materials according to changes in the water level using a drone-based hyperspectral sensor. For this purpose, we took hyperspectral images of bed materials such as soil, gravel, cobble, reed, and vegetation to compare and analyze the spectral data of each material. To adjust the water level, we constructed an experimental channel to control the discharge and installed the bed materials within the channel. In this study, we configured 3 cases according to the water level (0.0 m, 0.3 m, 0.6 m). After the imaging process, we used the mean value of 10 points for each bed material as analytical data. According to the analysis, each material showed a similar reflectance by wavelength and the intrinsic reflectance characteristics of each material were shown in the visible and near-infrared region. Also, the deeper the water level, the lower the peak reflectance in the visible and near-infrared region, and the rate of decrease differed depending on the bed material. We expect the intrinsic properties of these bed materials to be used as basic research data to evaluate river environments in the future.
