In order to eliminate demerits of conventional dosage forms, dipotassium glycyrrhizate was formulated as a slim mucoadhesive film type dosage form. The mucoadhesive drug layer gel containing dipotassium glycyrrhizate was prepared using $Noveon^{\circledR}$ AA-1, hydroxypropylcellulose-M, ethylcellulose N 100 and citric acid, and the protective layer gel by using ethylcellulose N 100, $Eudragit^{\circledR}$ RS and castor oil. The viscosity of drug layer gel of mucoadhesive film was enhanced as the increased amount of $Noveon^{\circledR}$ AA-1 or hydroxypropyl cellulose-M. The drug content was unifonnly $1160{\pm}14.6\;{\mu}g$, and was varied within 3.5%. The optimum film dosage form showed a good fluidity and malleability of drug layer, with 179 g of thickness, pH 5.7, 411 min of in vitro adhesion time and 172 g in gravity adhesive strength. The release time of drug from the mucoadhesive film was significantly shorter but was delayed when polymers such as ethylcellulose was added. From these results, the new mucoadhesive film may be effective for the treatment of aphthous stomatitis.
In this research, an effective method for reducing the fibrillation of lyocell fibers, which are spun from a solution of cellulose in N-methyl morpholine-N-oxide(NMMO), through consecutive chemical treatments. Undried solution-spun cellulosic fiber was firstly treated with 10 to 30 wt% of multifunctional crosslinking agents, such as ethylene glycol poly(3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl) ether, and then dipped into alkaline solution to introduce epoxy functions. Finally steam condition was applied to occur a chemical crosslinking in order to reduce the fibrillation on the surface of fibers. Fibrillation was also reduced significantly by adding extra $Na_2SO_4$ in NaOH solution. In addition, Antifibrilllated lyocell fibers show the slightly higher dyeability(4 %) to Cibacron Blue without serious reduction of mechanical properties.
We prepared solid dispersion formulations of quercetin to enhance its solubility and dissolution rate. Various quercetin-loaded solid dispersion were tested with quercetin, poloxamer 407, and carrier such as hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), polyethylene glycol 8000 (PEG 8000), and polyvinylpyrrolidone K40 (PVP K40) using solvent evaporation and freeze drying methods in terms of both the aqueous solubility and the dissolution rates of quercetin. The solubility of quercetin as its solid dispersion formulations was markedly improved compared with that of quercetin powder. Especially, highest solubility of quercetin was observed when HPMC was used as a carrier. The cumulative dissolution of quercetin within 360 min from solid dispersion composed of quercetin, poloxamer 407, and HPMC was 8.8-fold higher than the dissolution of pure quercetin. The results of powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) indicated that quercetin transformed from a crystalline to an amorphous form through the solid dispersion formulation process. These results suggest that the solid dispersion formulation of quercetin with poloxamer 407 and HPMC could be a promising option for enhancing the solubility and dissolution rate of quercetin.
A working electrode in dye-sensitized solar cells was fabricated using $TiO_2$ colloidal sol prepared from titanium isopropoxide used as a starting material by applying the sol-gel method. The effect of aging times and temperatures on physical and chemical properties of $TiO_2$ sol particles was systematically investigated. Results showed that the crystallinity and average particle size of $TiO_2$ colloidal sol can be successfully controlled by the adjustment of aging time and temperature. The conversion efficiency of the repetitive dry coating films fabricated using the dried $TiO_2$ colloidal sol particles and hydroxypropyl cellulose binder (15%) was 10.31% with a high transparency.
A simple and quick separation technique for selenite in natural water was developed using $TiO_2$@$SiO_2/Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles. For the synthesis of nanoparticles, a polymer-assisted sol-gel method using hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) was developed to control particle dispersion in the synthetic procedure. In addition, titanium butoxide (TBT) precursor, instead of the typical titanium tetra isopropoxide, was used for the formation of the $TiO_2$ shell. The synthesized nanoparticles were used to separate selenite ($Se^{4+}$) in the presence of $Se^{6+}$ or selenium anions for the photocatalytic reduction to $Se^0$ atom on the $TiO_2$ shell, followed by magnetic separation using $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles. The reduction efficiency of the photocatalytic reaction was 81.4% at a UV power of 6W for 3 h with a dark adsorption of 17.5% to the nanoparticles, as determined by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The developed separation method can be used for the speciation and preconcentration of selenium cations in environmental and biological analysis.
Rice dumpling shells were prepared with different levels of hydrocolloids, such as hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), and potato starch. After steaming, the physical, sensory, and cooking properties of the shells were measured. Increasing the amount of potato starch decreased the pasting temperature and increased the peak viscosity. With the addition of hydrocolloids, water absorption and cooking loss for the rice dumpling shells decreased significantly. For the textural properties, the rice dumpling shells with hydrocolloids showed lower hardness and higher springiness than the control, and especially, 10% potato starch and 3% HPMC addition (P10H3) improved the texture of the rice dumpling shells the most. The sensory results seemed to be affected more by the addition of potato starch than HPMC, and over 15% addition of potato starch significantly decreased the quality of the rice dumpling shells. By addition of adequate amount of hydrocolloids (3% HPMC and 10% potato starch), the sensory quality of rice dumpling shells can be effectively improved.
In this paper, a water-based green polymer mud is synthesized by simple compounding method. Effects of different kinds of tackifiers, their molecular weight on the viscosity of polymer mud and the effects of different fluid loss additives on mud fluid loss are studied. The results show that when polystyrene and anionic polyacrylamide with molecular weight of 8 ~ 10 million are used as the main thickening ingredient, polymer mud with high viscosity and high stability can be obtained. When the prepared polymer mud is formulated as NPAM: PEO: Hydroxypropyl cellulose(HPC) : Water = 42:10:10:100000 (unit: kg), the viscosity can reach 20.6 s, the filtration loss in 7.5 min is 24 mL, and the sand content is only 0.1 %. Compared with traditional bentonite mud, the green environment-friendly polymer mud has the advantages of small amount of waste, low environmental pollution, and low pulping cost, and can meet the construction needs for most topography and geomorphology drilling engineering.
Although lovastatin (LS) is widely used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, its bioavailability is known to be around 5%. This study was aimed to increase the solubility and dissolution-permeation rates of LS using solid dispersions (SDs) with bile salts. The solubilities of LS in water, aqueous bile salt solutions and non-aqueous vehicles were determined, and effects of bile salts on the cellulose or duodenal permeation of LS from SDs were evaluated using a horizontal permeation system. SDs were prepared at various ratios of LS to carriers, such as sodium deoxycholate (SDC), sodium glycocholate (SGC) and/or 2-hydroxypropyl-$\beta$-cyclodextrin (HPCD). The addition of bile salts (25 mM) in water increased markedly the solubility of LS by the micellar solubilization. Some non-aqueous vehicles were effective in solubilizing LS. From differential scanning calorimetric studies, it was found that the crystallinity of LS in SDs disappeared, indicating a formation of amorphous state. The SDs showed markedly enhanced dissolution compared with those of their physical mixtures (PMs) and drug alone. In the dissolution-permeation studies using a cellulose membrane, the donor and receptor solutions were maintained as a sink condition using pH 7.0 phosphate buffer containing 0.05% sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). The flux of LS alone was nearly same as that of LS-SDC-HPCD (1:3:6) PM. However, the flux of LS-SDC-HPCD (1:3:6) SD slightly increased compared with drug alone and PM, suggesting that entrapment of LS in micelles does not significantly hinder the permeation across cellulose membrane. In the dissolution-duodenal permeation studies using a LS-HPCD-SDC (1:3:6) SD, the addition of various bile salts in donor solutions (25 mM) enhanced the permeation of LS markedly, and the fluxes were found to be $0.69{\pm}0.41$, $0.87{\pm}0.51$, $0.84{\pm}0.46$, $0.47{\pm}0.17$ and $0.68{\pm}0.32{\mu}g/cm^2/hr$ for sodium cholate (SC), SDC, SGC, sodium taurodeoxycholate (STDC) and sodium taurocholate (STC), respectively. The stepwise increase of donor SGC concentration increased the flux dose-dependently. From the relationship of donor SGC concentration and flux, the concentration of SGC initiating the permeation across the duodenal mucosa was calculated to be 11.1 mM, which is nearly same as the critical micelle concentration (CMC, 11.6 mM) of SGC. However, with no addition of bile salts and below CMC, the permeation was very limited and irratic, indicating that LS itself is very poor permeable. Higher protions of bile salt in SD such as LS-SDC or LS-SGC (1 : 49 and 1 : 69) showed highly promoted fluxes. In conclusion, SD systems with bile salts, which may form their micelles in intestinal fluids, might be a promising means for providing enhanced dissolution and intestinal permeation of practically insoluble and non-absorbable LS.
A spherical $BaMgAl_{10}$$O_{17}$ :Eu phosphor has been synthesized by a multi-step precipitation route. In order to successfully synthesize the phosphor with spherical shape, the hydrated-alumina particles should be controlled for spherical shape. In this process, the hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) was used as a dispersing reagent. This reagent plays an important role in that the particles were controlled to have the uniform size of sub-micron. The final product prepared by the multi-step precipitation method maintained spherical shape with uniform size of 0.4$\mu\textrm{m}$. It can be seen in X-ray diffraction patterns, formation of the single phase of $BaMgAl_{10}$$O_{17}$ :Eu phosphor prepared by the multi-step precipitation method at $1350^{\circ}C$. Also, the emission spectra of spherical $BaMgAl_{O}$$10_{17}$ :Eu phosphor in the present case was compared with those of commercially-available blue phosphor under VUV (Vacuum Ultra Violet) excitation. The luminescence process of the $BaMgAl_{10}$$O_{17}$ :Eu phosphor is characterized by the $4f^{6}$$5d^1$longrightarrow4f$^{7}$ transition (blue) of the $Eu^{2+}$ ion acting as an activating center and the maximum luminescence intensity was obtained by reduction treatment at 145$0^{\circ}C$.
