Encapsulation of 2,4-Dihydroxybenzophenone into Dodecylbenzenesulfonate Modified Layered Double Hydroxide for UV Absorption Properties

  • New organic-inorganic composite of 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone (BP-1) encapsulation into dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBS) modified layered double hydroxide (LDH) was successfully prepared. The surface, structural, thermal and absorption properties of the BP-1/DBS-LDH nanohybrid was characterized by BET analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and diffuse reflectance UV-Vis absorbance spectra (DRUV-vis). The interlayer configuration of composite and the adsorption mechanism of BP-1 on MgAl-DBS-LDH were discussed. It was suspected that DBS anions located in the form of monolayer arrangement with a $75^{\circ}$ anti parallel angle between dodecylbenzenesulfonate chain axis. The diffuse reflectance UV-Vis absorbance results revealed that the UV absorbing wavelength of BP-1/DBS-LDH evidently extends to about 400 nm, which shows that the BP-1/DBS-LDH has the potential application as a UV absorber.

  • 수중 부유입자의 효과적인 제거 방안을 모색하고자 $CaCO_3$로 구성된 부유물의 계면화학적 특성을 고찰하였다. pH에 따른 전기영동도 측정에서는 수중 $OH^-$의 작용으로 pH가 상승함에 따라 electrokinetic potential은 음의 방향으로 변환하는 것으로 나타났다. 계면활성제는 부유물의 안정성에 영향을 끼치는 바, 계면활성제의 농도 및 전하에 따라 영향을 미치는 양상이 다르게 나타났다. 무기응집제의 경우에 있어서도 그 전하가 및 농도에 따라 부유물의 계면화학적 거동이 달라졌으며 이는 DLVO 이론에 의거하여 작성된 potential energy의 변화추이와 관련하여 이론적으로 해석될 수 있었다. Non-specific adsorption은 전기이중층의 압축을 초래하여 electrokinetic potential의 절대값 감소를 야기시켰으며 specific adsorption은 부유입자의 IEP 및 PZC가 상호 반대방향으로 이동하는 결과를 나타내었다.

Adsorption of Heavy Metal Ions onto Chemically Oxidized Ceiba pentandra (L.) Gaertn. (Kapok) Fibers

  • The physico-chemical properties of kapok fibers were altered via the combination processes of chlorite-periodate oxidation, in order to assess their efficacy as a heavy metal adsorbent. The chemically-oxidized kapok fibers were found to harbor a certain amount of polysaccharides, together with lowered lignin content. This alteration in lignin characteristics was clearly confirmed via FTIR and NBO yield. Moreover, chemically oxidized kapok fibers retained their hollow tube shape, although some changes were noted. The chemically oxidized kapok fibers evidenced elevated ability to adsorb heavy metal ions with the best fit for the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. Three cycles of adsorption-desorption were conducted with in-between regeneration steps. Our experimental results indicated that chemically oxidized kapok fibers possessed excellent adsorption characteristics, and the modified kapok fibers could be completely regenerated with almost equimolar diluted sodium hydroxide. Pb, Cu, Cd and Zn ions evidenced adsorption rates of 93.55%, 91.83%, 89.75%, and 92.85% on the chemically oxidized kapok fibers. The regeneration efficiency showed 73.58% of Pb, 71.55% of Cu, 66.87% of Cd, and 75.00% of Zn for 3rd cycle with 0.0125N NaOH.

아세트산을 조절인자로 제작한 크롬 기반 금속유기골격체의 diisopropyl methyl phosphonate 흡착 특성 연구 (A Study on the Adsorption Properties of Diisopropyl Methyl Phosphonate on Chromium-Based Metal-Organic Frameworks Using Acetic Acid as a Modulator)

  • 크롬 기반 금속유기골격체(MIL-101(Cr))를 제조하고 이들을 활용한 유사화학작용제 diisopropyl methyl phosphonate(DIMP) 흡착 실험을 통해 방독면 정화통이나 보호의 충진물질로서 활용 가능성을 평가하였다. MIL-101(Cr)은 조절인자로 아세트산(MIL-101(Cr)-A)과 수산화나트륨(MIL-101(Cr)-N)을 활용하여 각각 제작하였는데, 아세트산을 조절인자로 사용하였을 때 보다 넓은 비표면적과 높은 DIMP 흡착량을 보였다. MIL-101(Cr)-A는 상대습도 90% 환경에서 10일 동안 노출 시 흡착제 무게 대비 약 160%의 수분을 흡수하여 활성탄 등 다른 흡착제와 비교할 때 흡수율이 높았다. MIL-101(Cr)-A를 상대습도 90% 환경에서 일정기간 노출한 시료에 대한 DIMP 흡착량 실험 결과 24시간 이후에는 노출되지 않았을 때 흡착량의 약 40% 수준으로 감소하였으나, 이 흡착량은 상용 방독면 정화통 충진 활성탄과 비교하였을 때 여전히 높은 흡착량으로 추후 방독면 정화통이나 보호의 충진물질로서 활용가능성이 높은 것으로 판단된다.

  • The removal and readsorption effects of pine and oak bark grown in Korea on water pollution caused by heavy metal ions have been investigated. Bark saturated with heavy metal ions is refleshed with 0.1 N ammonium acetate and then its readsorption has been done. The results obtained are as follows: 1. Adsorption effect of pine bark is similiar to that of oak bark, and 20-40 meshed bark gives the best results. 2. 0.1 N amonium acetate of pH 7 shows more elutriative than the others such as pH 3 hydrochloric acid, pH 10 ammonium hydroxide and pH 7 water. 3 Pine bark refleshed with 0.1 N ammonium acetate gets two times as effective in adsorption as raw bark, and shows more effective than oak bark.

  • Quaternary aminized cellulosic adsorbents (C $A_{QA}$ ) which exhibit adsorption capacities for anionic dyestuffs for the treatment of colored waste water and re-use of the treated water were studied. The isotherms and thermodynamic parameters of C.I. Acid Orange 7, solution considered as a model of negatively charged coloring matters for C $A_{QA}$ , were determined. Batch method and flow method were employed to determine decoloring capacity of cellulosic adsorbents for Orange 7. The cellulosic adsorbents exhibited much better adsorption capacity than activated carbon. Furthermore the exhausted cellulosic adsorbents could be readily regenerated by washing with dilute sodium hydroxide.

Synthesis of arsenic adsorbent using graft polymerization

  • Fibrous arsenic (As) adsorbent was synthesized by loading zirconium (Zr) on fibrous phosphoric adsorbent that was directly synthesized by radiation-induced graft polymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate phosphoric acid on polyethylene-coated polypropylene nonwoven fabric. Zirconium reacted with phosphoric acid grafted in the polyethylene layer. Zirconium density of the resulting adsorbent was 4.1 mmol/g. The breakthrough curve of As(V) adsorption was independent of the flow rate up to $1300\;h^{-1}$ in space velocity. The total capacity of As(V) was 2.0 mmol/g-adsorbent at pH of 2. The adsorbed Zr(IV) could be evaluated by 0.4 M sodium hydroxide solution because negligible Zr(IV) could be found in the eluted solution.

Hydrogen storage capacity of highly porous carbons synthesized from biomass-derived aerogels

  • In this work, highly porous carbons were prepared by chemical activation of carbonized biomass-derived aerogels. These aerogels were synthesized from watermelon flesh using a hydrothermal reaction. After carbonization, chemical activation was conducted using potassium hydroxide to enhance the specific surface area and microporosity. The micro-structural properties and morphologies were measured by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The specific surface area and microporosity were investigated by $N_2$/77 K adsorption-desorption isotherms using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda equation, respectively. Hydrogen storage capacity was dependent on the activation temperature. The highest capacity of 2.7 wt% at 77 K and 1 bar was obtained with an activation temperature of $900^{\circ}C$.

질산염 이온의 전해 환원을 위한 Sn-modified Pt 전극 표면에서의 Sn 안정성 거동 특성 (Stability Characteristics of Sn Species Behavior on Surface of a Sn-modified Pt Electrode for Electrolytic Reduction of Nitrate Ion)

  • 본 논문에서는 질산염 이온의 환원을 위한 Sn의 흡착 또는 전착을 가지는 Sn-modified Pt 전극의 안정성이 평가되었다. 전극의 불안정성의 원인을 찾기 위하여 전극이 접하는 용액과 전극에 가해지는 전압에 따른 Pt 표면에서 Sn의 전기화학적 및 재료적 변화가 조사되었다. 제작된 Sn-modified Pt 전극 표면의 Sn은 hydroxide 형태로 존재하여 물, 특히 산 용액에서 방치하는 것에 의해서도 용해되어 쉽게 전극의 활성이 감소되었으며, 질산염 이온의 환원 시 전극에 $Sn(OH)_2$와 Sn의 산화-환원 평형 전압 보다 음의 전압이 가해질 때 전극 표면의 Sn hydroxide는 Sn으로 환원되어 Pt 전극 내부로 고체 확산되었고, 이는 Sn-modified Pt 전극의 활성을 감소시켰다. Sn의 고체 확산은 전극에 가해주는 전압에 비례하였다. Sn을 Pt에 코팅시키기 위하여 UPD 조건에서 흡착하는 것 보다 많은 Sn을 Pt 표면에 붙일 수 있는 Sn을 Pt에 전해 전착시키는 것이 질산염 이온의 환원하는 동안 전극의 건전성을 유지하는데 유리하였다.

알루미나 정제공정의 분체공학적 연구 (A Study on the Purification Process of Alumina by Powder Technics)

  • As a part of study to establish the industrial process for manufacturing high purity alumina powder which is largely used as fine ceramics, an adsorption method using a silica-containing material which can absorb to eliminate a major impurity, Na in aluminum hydroxide as a raw material has been studied. It is confirmed that the primary property of powder such as the particle size of raw material and that of silica-containing material plays a great important role in the purification process.
