This study is to calibrate the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) water quality of SS (Suspended Solid), T-P (Total Phosphorus), and T-N (Total Nitrogen) by focusing on 2014~2015 drought periods and identify the important parameters. For Gongdo watershed ($366.5km^2$), the SWAT was calibrated for 2 cases of 2002~2006 normal year focusing calibration and 2014~2015 drought focusing calibration respectively. The parameters of N_UPDIS (Nitrogen uptake distribution parameter) and CMN (Rate factor for humus mineralization of active organic nutrients) played important roles for T-N calibration during drought periods. The SWAT SS, T-N, and T-P average $R^2$ (Coefficient of determination) results by focusing on 2014~2015 drought periods calibration showed 0.71, 0.65 and 0.62 while 2002~2006 normal year focusing calibration showed 0.63, 0.58 and 0.50 respectively. Also SWAT SS, T-N, and T-P model efficiency NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency) results by focusing on drought period (2014~2015) calibrated showed 0.76, 0.77, 0.87 respectively. Even though the SS, T-P parameters were unchanged during the calibration, the SS and T-P results were improved by the hydrological parameters (SCS-CN, SOL_K, SLSOIL) during the drought periods. The SWAT water quality calibration needs to be considered for the movement of SS and nutrients transport especially focusing on the drought characteristics.
Land cover and land use change data are important in many studies including climate change and hydrological studies. Although the various theories and models have been developed, it is difficult to identify the driving factors of the land use change because land use change is related to policy options and natural and socio-economic conditions. This study is to attempt to simulate the land cover change using the CLUE model based on a statistical analysis of land-use change. CLUE model has dynamic modeling tools from the competition among land use change in between driving force and land use, so that this model depends on statistical relations between land use change and driving factors. In this study, Yongin, Icheon and Anseong were selected for the study areas, and binary logistic regression and factor analysis were performed verifying with ROC curve. Land cover probability map was also prepared to compare with the land cover data and higher probability areas are well matched with the present land cover demonstrating CLUE model applicability.
Improved methodology of Synthetic Unit Hydrograph (SUH) utilized generally in hydrologic design work was suggested. In this study, regression analysis between peak hydrological data and geospatial data was applied to estimate specific peak flow and peak time for determining shape of SUH. Regression formulas for specific peak flow with respect to shape factors show higher coefficient of determination (0.73~0.81) than the ones with geospatial components only (0.52~0.69). The areal limitation of unit hydrograph application is regarded as 500~700 $km^2$. The validation through rainfall-runoff simulation shows encouraging results that relative error is 1.7~29.0%(Avg. 11.6%) for the case of using SUH developed in this study and 35.0~ 64.9% (Avg. 46.7%) for the SUH in the previous study except for the extraordinary cases.

Despite the potentially major influence of rainstorm patterns on the prediction of shallow landslides, this relationship has not yet received significant attention. In this study, five typical temporal rainstorm patterns with the same cumulative amount and intensity components comprising Advanced (A1 and A2), Centralized (C), and Delayed (D1 and D2) were designed based on a historical rainstorm event occurred in 2006 in Mt. Jinbu area. The patterns were incorporated as the hydrological conditions into the Transient Rainfall Infiltration and Grid-based Regional Slope-stability Model (TRIGRS), in order to assess their influences on pore pressure variation and changes in the stability of the covering soil layer in the study area. The results revealed that not only the cumulative rainfall thresholds necessary to initiate landslides, but also the rate at which the factor of safety (FS) decreases and the time required to reach the critical state, are governed by rainstorm pattern. The sooner the peak rainfall intensity occurs, the smaller the cumulative rainfall threshold, and the shorter the time until landslide occurrence. Left-skewed rainfall patterns were found to have a greater effect on landslide initiation. More specifically, among the five different patterns, the Advanced storm pattern (A1) produced the most critical state, as it resulted in the highest pore pressure across the entire area for the shortest duration; the severity of response was then followed by patterns A2, C, D1, and D2. Thus, it can be concluded that rainfall patterns have a significant effect on the cumulative rainfall threshold, the build-up of pore pressure, and the occurrence of shallow landslides, both in space and time.

Land use is a critical factor that affects the hydrological characteristics of watersheds, thereby determining the biological condition of streams. This study analyzes the effects of land uses in the watersheds on biological indicators of streams across the Han River basin using a linear model (LM) and generalized additive model (GAM). LULC and biological monitoring data of streams were obtained from the Korean Ministry of Environment. The proportions of urban, agricultural, and forest areas in the watersheds were regressed to the three biological indicators, including diatom, benthic macroinvertebrate, and fish of streams. The estimated LM and GAM models for the biological indicators were then compared, using regression determination R2 and AIC values. The results revealed that GAM models performed better than the LM models in explaining the variances of biological indicators of streams, indicating the non-linear relationships between biological indicators and land uses in watersheds. Also, the results suggested that the indicator of macroinvertebrates was the most sensitive indicator to land uses in watersheds. Although non-linear relationships between watershed land uses and biological indicators of streams could vary among biological indicators, it was consistent that streams' biological integrity significantly deteriorated by a relatively low percentage of urban areas. Meanwhile, biological indicators of streams were negatively affected by the relatively high percentage of agricultural areas. The results of this study can be integrated into effective quantitative criteria for the watershed management and land use plans to enhance the biological integrity of streams. In specific, land uses management plans in watersheds may need more close attention to urban land use changes than agricultural land uses to sustain the biological integrity of streams.

Low impact development (LID) is a widely used technology that aims to reduce the peak flow volume and amount of pollutants in stormwater runoff while introducing physicochemical, biological or a combination of both mechanisms in order to improve water quality. This research aimed to determine the effect of hydrologic factors in removing the pollutants on stormwater runoff by an LID facility. Monitored storm events from 2010-2018 were analysed to evaluate the hydraulic and hydrological performance of a small constructed wetland (SCW). Standard methods for the examination water and wastewater were employed to assess the water quality of the collected samples (APHA et al, 1992). Primary hydrologic data were obtained from the Korea Meteorological Administration. The recorded average rainfall intensity and antecedent dry days (ADD) of SCW were 5.26 mm/hr and 7 days respectively. During the highest rainfall event (27 mm/hr), the removal efficiency of SCW for all the pollutants was ranging from 67% to 91%. While on the lowest rainfall event (0.7 mm/hr), the removal efficiency was ranging from -36% to 62%. Rainfall intensity has a significant effect to the removal efficiencies of each facility due to its dilution factor. In addition to that, there was no significant correlation of ADD to the mean concentrations of pollutants. Generally, stormwater runoff contains significant amount of pollutants that can cause harmful effects to the environment if not treated. Also, the component of this LID facility such as pre-treatment zone, media filters and vegetation contributed to the effectivity of the LID facilities in reducing the amounts of pollutants present in stormwater runof.

Remarkable development of sand bars is an important characteristic of fluviatile landform of Korea. Their development owes, in one part, to the supply of abundant sandy materials to river valley floor, originated from the weathering of essentially granitic rocks, distributed almost all over the country. It owes, in other part, to river valley disposition presenting many angular sinuosity guided by fracture grid, impeding regular migration of sandy materials along valley floor. Besides, high amplitude of river discharge fluctuation of the country plays is proved to be favorable hydrological factor for the development of the sand bars. The sand bars play important roles in favor of river hydro-ecological environment. They mitigate the amplitude of discharge fluctuation regime. In flood spell, sand grains in the main channel migrate so as to broden wet section. At the spell of low water level, they newly accumulate as to impede rapid stream discharge. Especially high quantity of reserved water in porous space of sand bar is preciously available both for human livelihood and for ecological environment.

The object of this research is to elicit the ecological wetland's creating and maintaining conditions through GIS and AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) on common characteristics of wetland, by exploring the function of the long-standing and naturally created wetlands in South Han-river basin. Geomorphological, geologic, hydraulic & hydrological, pedological, environmental & ecological approaches of five categorizations were made based on the documents and precedent studies in order to perform the research object. Elicitation of the common creating and maintaining conditions on the objected wetlands through analysis of satisfactory conditions was conducted by performing an overlay analysis from the gathered information in each category and linking its result to each wetland. Also, elicitation of highly believable qualified analysis result was made by calculating the each factor's weight through application of AHP analysis method on each factor. The research result is expected to be applied effectively in suitability selection for creation of an artificial wetland and restoration and maintenance for naturally created wetlands when introducing the No Net Loss of Wetlands. In addition, with a new understanding on wetland and beyond the value of its conservativeness, this research result can be considered as a solution for Eco-Wetland's maintainable development.

This study tries to cluster the 795 standard watersheds of Korea Water Resources Unit Map using multivariate statistical analysis technique. The 30 factors of watershed characteristics related to topography, stream, meteorology, soil, land cover and hydrology were selected for comprehensive analysis. From the factor analysis, 16 representative factors were selected. The significant factors in order were the pedological feature, scale and geological location and meteorological and hydrological features of the watershed. As a next step, the 73 gauged watersheds were selected for cluster analysis. They are scattered properly to the whole country and the discharge data were within a confidential level. Based on the 73 watersheds, the other ungaged watersheds were clustered by applying the 16 factors and calculating Euclidian distances. The clustering results showed that the similarity between standard watersheds within the same river basin were 87%, 69%, 41%, 52%, and 27% for Han, Nakdong, Geum, Seomjin, and Yeongsan river basins respectively.
In order to investigate water quality factors controlling chlorophyll-$a$ concentrations, the by-daily monitoring was conducted from February to November 2010 in 4 stations of Masan Bay. Seasonal variability in physico-chemical factors was mainly controlled by freshwater loading as a result of precipitation: chemical oxygen demand, suspended solids and nutrient concentrations rapidly increase during the heavy rainy season, whereas they decrease in the dry season. From late winter to mid spring, phosphorus and silica sources relative to Redfield ratio were probably functioned as limiting factor for phytoplankton flourishing in surface waters, but nitrogen concentration during mid-spring to autumn might be responsible for the increase of phytoplankton biomass. The multiple regression analysis revealed that variations in chlorophyll-$a$ concentration may be strongly correlated with changes of water temperature, chemical oxygen demand, dissolved inorganic phosphorus in spring, and salinity, chemical oxygen demand and precipitation in summer. Consequently, in the Masan Bay, a heavy rainfall event is an important factor to determine changes of biotic and abiotic factors, and in addition the dynamics of chlorophyll-$a$ concentration are strongly affected by changes of hydrological factors, especially water temperature, precipitation and nutrients.
