Reduction reactivity and carbon deposition characteristics of three oxygen carrier particles(OCN01, OCN02, OCN03) have been investigated by using hydrogen, methane, syngas, and natural gas as fuels. For all particles, the maximum conversion, the oxygen transfer capacity, and the degree of carbon deposition increased as the reactive carbon contents increased. The reduction rate and the oxygen transfer rate increased as the moles of required oxygen per input gas increased. The change of maximum conversion, reduction rate, oxygen transfer capacity, oxygen transfer rate and degree of carbon deposition for different fuels can be explained consistently by using parameters such as the reactive carbon contents and the moles of require oxygen per input gas.
The Sulfur-Iodine (SI) thermochemical hydrogen production process of a closed cycle consists of three sections, which are so called the Bunsen reaction section, the $H_2SO_4$ decomposition section and the HI decomposition section. To identify the role of oxygen that can be supplied to the Bunsen reaction section via the $H_2SO_4$ decomposition section, Bunsen reactions with a $SO_2,\;SO_2-O_2$ mixture and $SO_2-N_2$ mixture as feed gases were carried out using a stirred reactor in the presence of $I_2/H_2O$ mixture. As the results, the amounts of $I_2$ unreacted under the feed of mixture gases were higher than those under the feed of $SO_2$ gas only, and the amount of HI produced was relatively decreased. The results of Bunsen reaction using $SO_2-O_2$ mixture were similar to those using $SO_2-N_2$ mixture. It may be concluded that an oxygen in $SO_2-O_2$ mixture has a role as a carrier gas like a nitrogen in $SO_2-N_2$ mixture. The effects of oxygen were decreased with increasing temperature and decreasing oxygen content in $SO_2-O_2$ mixture.
Water-Electrolyzed gas is a mixed gas has the constant volume ratio 2 1 Hydrogen and Oxygen gained from electrolyzed water, and it has better characteristics in the field of economy, efficiency of energy, and environmental intimacy than acetylene gas and LPG used for existing gas welding equipment. So nowdays many studies of Water-Electrolyzed gas are progressed, and commercially used as a source of thermal energy for gas welding in the industry. For Water-Electrolyzed Source, it was used diode rectifier or SCR rectifier for get DC source. This method which is not looking to improve a source for impossible current control or voltage and limited control intervals. In this paper, it was relized and designed In source of pulse type for complementing existing - DC source type, also by experiment it was acquired producting characteristics of Hydrogen -Oxygen Gas through feature of source
The potential application of ultrafine cerium oxide (ceria, $CeO_2$) as an oxygen gas sensor has been investigated. Ceria was synthesized by a thermochemical process: first, a precursor powder was prepared by spray drying cerium-nitrate solution. Heat treatment in air was then performed to evaporate the volatile components in the precursor, thereby forming nanostructured $CeO_2$ having a size of approximately 20 nm and specific surface area of 100 $m^2/g$. After sintering with loosely compacted samples, hydrogen-reduction heat treatment was performed at 773K to increase the degree of non-stoichiometry, x, in $CeO_{2-x}$. In this manner, the electrical conductivity and oxygen-response ability could be enhanced by increasing the number of oxygen vacancies. After the hydrogen reduction at 773K, $CeO_{1.5}$ was obtained with nearly the same initial crystalline size and surface. The response time $t_{90}$ measured at room temperature was extremely short at 4 s as compared to 14 s for normally sintered $CeO_2$. We believe that this hydrogen-reduced ceria can perform capably as a high-performance oxygen sensor with good response abilities even at room temperature.
Natural gas combustion characteristics of mass produced oxygen carrier particles were investigated in a batch type bubbling fluidized bed reactor. Five particles, NiO/bentonite, OCN601-650, OCN702-1100, OCN703-950, OCN703-1100 were used as oxygen carrier particles. Natural gas and air were used as reactants for reduction and oxidation, respectively. During reduction reaction, high fuel conversion and high $CO_2$ selectivity were achieved for most of oxygen carriers. During oxidation, NO emission was very low. These results indicate that inherent $CO_2$ separation and low NOx combustion are feasible for the natural gas fueled chemical-looping combustion system. Among the five oxygen carriers, OCN703-1100 particle was selected as the best candidate for demonstration of long-term operation in large-scale chemical-looping combustor from the viewpoints of fuel conversion, $CO_2$ selectivity, $CH_4$ concentration, and CO concentration.
A dense mixed ionic and electronic conducting ceramic membrane is one of the most promising materials because it can be used for separation of oxygen from the mixture gas. The $ABO_3$ perovskite structure shows high chemical stability at high temperatures under reduction and oxidation atmospheres. $BaCo_{1-x-y}Fe_xZr_yO_{3-{\delta}}$ (BCFZ) was well-known material as high mechanical strength, low thermal conductivity and stability in the high valence state. Glycine Nitrate Process (GNP) is rapid and effective method for powder synthesis using glycine as a fuel and show higher product crystallinity compared to solid state reaction and citrate-EDTA method. BCFZ was fabricated by modified glycine nitrate process. In order to control the burn-up reaction, $NH_4NO_3$ was used as extra nitrate. According to X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) results, BCFZ was single phase regardless of Zr dopants from y=0.1 to 0.3 on B sites. The green compacts were sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. Oxygen permeability, methane partial oxidation rate and hydrogen production ability of the membranes were characterized by using Micro Gas Chromatography (Micro GC) under various condition. The high oxygen permeation flux of BCFZ 1-451 was about $1ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$. Using the humidified Argon gas, BCFZ 1-433 produced hydrogen about $1ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$.
Effects of reactant gas flow rates and starvation on phosphoric acid fuel cell performance were studied. As the reactant gas flow rates increased, the cell performance increased and then the cell maintained constant performance. The optimum flow rates of hydrogen, oxygen and air under galvanostatic condition of 150 mA/cm$_{2}$ are found to be 5cc/min cm$_{2}$ 5cc/min cm$_{2}$ and 15cc/min cm$_{2}$ at room temperature and 1 atm, respectively. Also the open circuit voltage of single cell decreased with increasing oxygen flow rate due probably to the decreased probably to the decreased oxygen pressure in the cathode side. Hydrogen and oxygen starvation resulted in voltage loss of about 5mV and 0-2mV, respectively. The voltage loss was independent of starvation time. These results were discussed from point of view of electrochemical reaction of the cell. (author). 9 refs., 8 figs.
Increasing environmental concerns regarding the use of fossil fuels and global wanning have prompted researcher to investigate alternative fuels. The purpose of this study is to investigate the syngas production by biogas reforming using a compression spark ignition engine. The parametric screening studies were carried out according to the variations of oxygen enrichment rate, biogas $CO_2$ ratio, intake gas temperature, and engine revolution. When the oxygen enrichment rate and input gas temperature increased, hydrogen and carbon monoxide were increased. But the biogas $CO_2$ ratio and engine revolution increased, the syngas were reduced. For the reforming of methane 100% only, generation of hydrogen and carbon monoxide was 58% and 17%, respectively. However when the biogas $CO_2$ ratio was 40%, hydrogen and carbon monoxide concentration were about 20% each.
The feasibility and efficiency of the hydrogen peroxide produced by an electrolysis cell reactor was investigated, From regulating voltages for the given reaction time, the concentration of the hydrogen peroxide was gradually increased with increasing voltages. Optimal voltage range was found to be 10~15 V. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide was much higher with oxygen gas than without oxygen gas in the cathodic chamber. But there was a little difference in the generating rate of hydrogen peroxide regardless of the presence of nitrogen gas. Under given conditions, the maximum value of ICE(Instantaneous Current Efficiency) was about 38%, and then current density was 74 $mA/\textrm{cm}^2.$ The specific energy consumption was $0.694[kWh/kg-H_2O_2].$ Since Esp (Specific Energy Consumption)was very little value, It did not demand high energy in this system. Using the hydrogen peroxide gained in the experiment, Fenton's reaction was conducted and the removal of nitrobenzene, 3-chlorophenol and dye wastewater was studied. This results were very similar to the Fenton's reaction by using commercial hydrogen peroxide.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the reforming characteristics and maximum operating condition for the hydrogen production by methane reforming using the compression ignition engine induced partial oxidation. An dedicated compression engine used for methane reforming was decided operating range. The partial oxidation reforming was investigated with oxygen enrichment which can improve hydrogen production, compared to general reforming. Parametric screening studies were achieved as $O_2/CH_4$ ratio, total flow rate, and intake temperature. When the variations of $O_2/CH_4$ ratio, total flow rate, and intake temperature were 1.24, 208.4 L/min, and $400^{\circ}C$, respectively, the maximum operating conditions were produced hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Under the condition mentioned above, synthetic gas were $H_2\;22.77{\sim}29.22%,\;CO\;21.11{\sim}23.59%$.
