$(Ni_{60}-Nb_{40})_{95}-Pd_5$ 비정질 금속막의 수소투과 특성 (Hydrogen Permeation Properties of $(Ni_{60}-Nb_{40})_{95}-Pd_5$ Amorphous Metallic Membrane)

  • Hydrogen as a high-quality and clean energy carrier has attracted renewed and ever-increasing attention around the world in recent years, mainly due to developments in fuel cells and environmental pressures including climate change issues. In this processes for hydrogen production from fossil fuels, separation and purification is a critical technology. $(Ni_{60}-Nb_{40})_{95}-Pd_5$ alloy ingots were prepared by arc-melting the mixture of pure metals in an Ar atmosphere. Melt-spun ribbons were produced by the single-roller melt-spinning technique in an Ar atmosphere. Amorphous structure and thermal behavior were characterized by XRD and DSC. The permeability of the $(Ni_{60}-Nb_{40})_{95}-Pd_5$ amorphous alloy membrane was characterized by hydrogen permeation experiments in the temperature range 623 to 773 K and pressure of 2 bars. The maximum hydrogen permeability was $3.54{\times}10^{-9}[mol{\cdot}m^{-1}s^{-1}{\cdot}pa^{-1/2}]$ at 773 K for the $(Ni_{60}-Nb_{40})_{95}-Pd_5$ amorphous alloy.

수소 발생을 위한 암모니아 보레인의 열분해 (Thermal Decomposition of Ammonia Borane for $H_2$ Release)

  • Thermal decomposition of Ammonia Borane have been investigated with various analytical methods including TGA, TP-MS, DSC. By-products such as aminoborane and borazine were identified during hydrogen release by TGA, TP-MS analysis. $H_2$ release amount was measured at each temperature isothermally, which resulted in 7 wt% $H_2$ release at 130$^{\circ}C$. Moreover, higher temperature enhanced hydrogen release kinetics leading to shortened induction period from 20 min at 95$^{\circ}C$ to 0 min at 130$^{\circ}C$. Melting and decomposition at close temperature (4$^{\circ}C$ difference) caused the formation of thin foam during hydrogen release. Suppression of by-products and thin foam formation during hydrogen release is suggested as critical issues to realize chemical hydrogen storage system with ammonia borane.

  • Hydrogen-sensing behaviors of Pd- and Pt-SiC Schottky diodes, fabricated on the same SiC substrate, have been systematically compared and analyzed as a function of hydrogen concentration and temperature by I-V and$\DeltaI-t$ methods under steady-state and transient conditions. The effects of hydrogen adsorption on the device parameters such as the barrier height are investigated. The significant differences in their hydrogen sensing characteristics have been examined in terms of sensitivity limit, linearity of response, response rate, and response time. For the investigated temperature range, Pd-SiC Schottky diode shows better performance for H2 detection than Pt-SiC Schottky diode under the same testing conditions. The physical and chemical mechanisms responsible for hydrogen detection are discussed. Analysis of the steady-state reaction kinetics using I-V method confirmed that the atomistic hydrogen process is responsible for the barrier height change in the diodes.

미소경도 측정에 의한 590DP강 Subsurface Zone 내 수소취성 평가 (Hydrogen Embrittlement Evaluation of Subsurface Zone in 590DP Steel by Micro-Vickers Hardness Measurement)

  • This study describes a hydrogen embrittlement evaluation of the subsurface zone in 590DP steel by micro-Vickers hardness measurement. The 590DP steel was designed to use in high-strength thin steel sheets as automotive materials. The test specimens were fabricated to 5 series varying the chemical composition through the process of casting and rolling. Electrochemical hydrogen charging was conducted on each specimen with varying current densities and charging times. The relationship between the embrittlement and hydrogen charging conditions was established by investigating the metallography. The micro-Vickers hardness was measured to evaluate the hydrogen embrittlement of the subsurface zone in addition to the microscopic investigation. The micro-Vickers hardness increased with the charging time at the surface. However, the changing ratio and maximum variation of hardness with depth were nearly the same value for each test specimen under the current density of 150 mA/$cm^2$ and charging time of 50 hours. Consequently, it appears that hydrogen embrittlement in 590DP steel can be evaluated by micro-Vickers hardness measurement.

  • During last years, hydrogen refueling infrastructure test and devices research for hydrogen station presented a significant growth consisting of the commercialization of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). However, we still have many challenges for making commercial hydrogen stations such as increased safety and cost reduction. This study demonstrates the low cost hydrogen storage tank (type 2) and effective winding method for high pressure hydrogen storage. We use numerical analysis to verify stress changes inside the wire according to the winding condition. Also liner size, winding wire size and wire tension were studied for the safety and cost down. Results show that the stress of winding wire decreased with increased winding angle and increased the liner diameter. On the other hand, the stress of winding wire increased according to the increased wire thickness and tension.

Low Temperature Adsorption of Hydrogen on Nanoporous Materials

  • Hydrogen adsorption on various porous materials have been studied with a volumetric method at low temperature in the pressure of 0-760 torr. Their hydrogen uptakes depend at least partly on microporosity rather than total porosity. However, it is also necessary to consider other parameters such as pore size and pore architecture to explain the adsorption capacity. The heat of adsorption and adsorption-desorption-readsorption experiments show that the hydrogen adsorption over the porous materials are composed of physisorption with negligible contribution of chemisorption. Among the porous materials studied in this work, SAPO-34 has the highest adsorption capacity of 160 mL/g at 77 K and 1 atm probably due to high micropore surface area, micropore volume and narrow pore diameter.

  • In this work, a static volumetric method was experimentally implemented to measure the adsorption isotherm of hydrogen and methane by the activated carbon. The equilibrium data of stationary phase and mobile phase were correlated into the Langmuir, Freundlich, Langmuir-Freundlich, and Toth isotherms, respectively. In addition, the comparison between prediction and experimental data was made. By a nonlinear regression analysis, the experimental parameters in the equilibrium isotherms were estimated and compared. Then, the linear and quadratic equations for pressure and temperature to adsorption amounts were expressed. The adsorption amounts were increased with the pressure increase and the temperature decrease.

Correlation between Velocity Fluctuation and Fluctuation of Hydrogen Concentration in 2-D Air-Hydrogen Supersonic Mixing Layer

  • An experiment was carried out to confirm the validity of time series evaluation of supersonic mixing condition by using catalytic reaction on a platinum wire. Geseous hydrogen was injected parallel to supersonic freestream (M$\infty$ $\approx$ 1.81) from a slit injector, which was located at backward facing step. Time series condition of supersonic mixing was evaluated by using W-type probe which has a platinum wire and reference wire (nickel wire). The evaluation was by simultaneously measuring each electric circuit which kept the temperature of wire constant. Investigations were also conducted for helium, air and no secondary injectant cases to compare with the hydrogen injectant case. The results indicated that it was possible to measure the time series behavior of air and hydrogen supersonic mixing layer or coherent motion of turbulence by using this evaluation.

  • In this study, in order to propose a integrity evaluation for type IV high aspect ratio hydrogen storage vessel, a numerical analysis of the hoop tensile test and pressure test was performed using FEM software, and the results of the actual physical property test were reviewed. The property test and numerical analysis were compared, and very similar results were obtained with deviations of maximum tensile strength of 4.75% and fiber direction stress of 5.39%.

창원시 수소 산업 2040 중장기 육성계획 수립 연구 (A Study on Fostering Plan for the Hydrogen Industry in Changwon City)

  • This study aims to propose a mid- to long-term fostering plan for the hydrogen industry customized to Changwon City by reviewing the government's policy and the status of the domestic and foreign hydrogen industry. The adopted methodologies were policy analysis, literature review, field investigation, and committee operation that could consider institutions, knowledge (technology), and networking between activity subjects. The short-term projects and long-term projects for the fostering plan are established using these methodologies. The short-term projects were structured so that the ongoing hydrogen industry fostering plan leads to a successful result, and the hydrogen mobility field is expanded to not only land vehicles but also marine and air vehicles. The long-term projects consist of a high proportion of the hydrogen utilization field to take advantage of the industrial strength of Changwon City, and a support system for new and turning companies for localization of parts was added to provide industrial competitiveness.
