Methane can be converted directly to hydrogen by pyrolysis. The reaction is highly endothemic and heat must be supplied at high temperatures. Gibbs free energy minimization calculations have been carried out for the methane pyrolysis to determine equilibrium products. The calculation parameters are the temperature, the initial H/C ratio, the pressure and Gibbs energies of each substance. Methane, ethylene, acetylene, benzene, naphthalene, and hydrogen are the main products. Excluding hydrogen, it is observed that ethylene and aromatics(benzene+naphthalene) are predominant products below 1400K, whereas acetylene is significantly formed above 1400K. Hydrogen dilution increases the selectivities for ethylene and acetylene and decreases the selectivity for aromatics. Increasing the pressure also decreases the decomposition of methane.
Novel binol-based uryl and guanidinium receptors having higher ring conjugation at the periphery of the hydrogen bonding donor sites have been synthesized and utilized to study the enantioselective recognition of 1,2-aminoalcohols and chirality conversion of natural amino acids via imine bond formation. There is a remarkable decrease in the stereoselectivites as the conjugation increases at the periphery of hydrogen bonding donor sites. The guanidinium-based receptors show more selectivity towards the amino alcohol than that of the uryl based ones due to its charge reinforced hydrogen bonds. The conversion efficiency of L-amino acids to Damino acids by the uryl-based receptors is higher than that of the guanidinium-based ones.
In this study, a novel microwave-matrix reformer was proposed to convert CH4, which is a major component, to a high quality hydrogen energy. And to identify this performance, it was investigated for O2/C ratio, steam feed amount and reformed gas recirculation which are affected for methane conversion and product gas yield. Through the parametric screening studies, optimal operating conditions were that O2/C ratio, steam feed amount and recirculation rate were 1.1, 10 mL/min and 30 L/min. In this conditions, CH4 conversion was 68.1%, H2 selectivity 77.2 and H2/CO ratio 2.62 which are possible applying SOFC stack for RPG (residential power generator).
Hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) biosensor is one of the most developing sensors because this kind of sensors is highly selective and responds quickly to the specific substrate. Hemoglobin (Hb) has been used as ideal biomolecules to construct hydrogen peroxide biosensors because of their high selectivity to $H_2O_2$. The direct electron transfer of Hb has widely investigated for application in the determination of $H_2O_2$ because of its simplicity, high selectivity and intrinsic sensitivity. An electrochemical detection for hydrogen peroxide was investigated based on immobilization of hemoglobin on DNA/Fe(pyterpy)$^{2+}$ modified gold electrode. The pyterpy monolayers were firstly an electron deposition onto the gold electrode surface of the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). It is offered a template to attach negatively charged DNA. The fabrication process of the electrode was verified by quartz crystal analyzer (QCA). The experimental parameters such as pH, applied potential and amperometric response were evaluated and optimized. Under the optimized conditions, this sensor shows the linear response within the range between $3.0{\times}10^{-6}$ to $9.0{|times}10^{-4}$ M concentrations of $H_2O_2$. The detection limit was determined to be $9{\times}10^{-7}$ M (based on the S/N=3).

Material corrosion in nuclear power plant (NPP) is not controlled only by amine injection but also by ion exchange (IX) which is the best option to remove trace Na+. This study was conducted to understand the Na+ leakage characteristics of IX beds packed with ethanolamine-form (ETAH-form) and hydrogen-form (H-form) resins in the simulated water-steam cycle in terms of intrinsic behaviors of four kinds of cation-exchange resins through ASTM test and Vanselow mass action modeling. Na+ was inappreciably escaped throughout the channel created in resin layer. Na+ leakage from IX bed was non-linearly raised because of its decreasing selectivity with increasing Na+ capture and with increasing the fraction of ETAH-form resin. Na+ did not reach the breakthrough earlier than ETAH+ and NH4+ due to the increased selectivity of Na+ to the cation-exchange resin (H+ < ETAH+ < NH4+ ≪ Na+) at the feed composition. Na+ leakage from the resin bed filled with small particles was decreased due to the enhanced dynamic IX processes, regardless of its low selectivity. Thus, the particle size is a predominant factor among intrinsic properties of IX resin to reduce Na+ leakage from the condensate polishing plant (CPP) in NPPs.
Popular techniques for producing hydrogen by converting methane include steam reforming and catalyst reforming. However, these are high temperature and high pressure processes limited by equipment, cost and difficulty of operation. Low temperature plasma is projected to be a technique that can be used to produce high concentration hydrogen from methane. It is suitable for miniaturization and fur application in other technologies. In this research, the effect of changing each of the following variables was studied using an AC GlidArc system that was conceived by the research team: the gas components ratio, the gas flow rate, the catalyst reactor temperature and voltage. Results were obtained for methane and hydrogen yields and intermediate products. The system used in this research consisted of 3 electrodes and an AC power source. In this study, air was added fur the partial oxidation reaction of methane. The result showed that as the gas flow rate, the catalyst reactor temperature and the electric power increased, the methane conversion rate and the hydrogen concentration also increased. With $O_2/C$ ratio of 0.45, input flow rate of 4.9 l/min and power supply of 1 kW as the reference condition, the methane conversion rate, the high hydrogen selectivity and the reformer energy density were 69.2%, 32.6% and 35.2% respectively.
Porous ceramic membranes consisting of $Ce_{1-x}Y_xO_{2-{\delta}}$ were developed for hydrogen permeation tests. Various amounts (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2) of yttrium were doped to ceria to study the effect of yttrium doping on ceria membranes on various properties, including hydrogen permeability. $Ce_{1-x}Y_xO_{2-{\delta}}$ powder was synthesized by the sol-gel method. These membranes were fabricated by pressing and sintering at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 6 h. As the amount of yttrium increased, the grain size of the membrane decreased. Hydrogen permeability was improved as the yttrium content increased. Selective permeability of hydrogen compared to CO is explained by electric conductivity. As the temperature rose, both the hydrogen perm-selectivity and electric conductivity on $Ce_{0.8}Y_{0.2}O_{1.9}$ improved.
4'-Bromoacetophenone analogs, which are able to generate monophenyl radicals capable of hydrogen atom abstraction, were investigated as possible photoinducible DNA cleaving agents. The potential of 4'-Bromoacetophenone as a possible new DNA cleaver is explored. Pyrrolecarboxatmid conjugated 4'-Bromoacetophenone, in particular, DNA cleaving activity and sequence-selectivity on the contiguous AT base pair sites.
The vapor phase hydrogen trancefer reaction between acrolein and isopropyl alcohol has been investigated over $Ag_2O$-Cao catalyst. A high selectivity of allyl alcohol was obtained at 88.7% with conversion of 75.4%.
