The effect of the bow shape on the ship motion response among longitudinal regular waves, is investigated employing the strip theory. The two dimensional hydrodynamic forces such as added mass and damping are calculated by the integral equation method for arbitrary sections. Nine ship models are selected for investigation. They are U, UV and V bow ship forms of different block coefficient of 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8 with constant after body. The heave amplitude of the V bow ship is smaller than that of the U bow ship in the whole range of wave length except extremely short wave as were stated by the earlier investigators. This results holds also in the case of bow vertical motions such as vertical relative displacement, velocity and acceralation. As to the pitch amplitudes, the V bow ship gives smaller value in long waves but larger value in short waves. However, heave and pitch phase angles are practically not influenced by the form of the fore body sections. In the bow motions, a little difference in phase angle is appeared in the vicinity of the wave which has same ship length. With respect to the wave exiting force and moment unfovourable effects could be expected in V bow ships. And these tendency hold also in the wave bending moment.
We have performed the high resolution computer simulation with 1D spherical hydrodynamic code in order to study the dynamical evolution of supernova ejecta interacting with a pre-existing fast wind structure. The fast wind structure has been calculated with $M_{in}=3{\times}10^{-6}M_{\odot}yr^{-1}$ and ${\upsilon}_{in}=1000km/sec$, which velocity is higher than the critical velocity relating to the initial radiative cooling. The fast wind becomes initially adiabatic. After a shell formation time of ${\sim}4000yrs$, the wind becomes radiative cooling at the shell zone, forming a thin dense radiative shell and an adiabatic wind bubble afterward. When supernova explodes in the wind center at 20,000yrs after the wind evolves, the supernova ejecta, which has a dense distribution of ${\rho}{\propto}r^{-n}$(here we have n = 9), interacts initially with, the understood wind zone, producing forward and reverse shocks. The reverse shock heats the supernova ejecta and its temperature increases. In this study, as the mass of the supernova ejecta is larger than that of the wind shell ($M_{ej}=5M_{\odot}$, $M_{sw}=2M_{\odot}$), we can conform two shell structures: an outer shell by the supernova ejecta and a secondarily shocked wind shell by it. The secondarily shocked wind shell should accelerates in this case to be R-T unstable, consequently producing the knots.
We use hydrodynamic simulations to study the physical properties of gaseous structures in barred galaxies and their relationships with the bar strength. We vary the bar mass fbar relative to the spheroidal component as well as its aspect ratio. We derive expressions for the bar strength Qb and the radius where the maximum bar torque occurs. When applied to observations, these expressions suggest that bars in real galaxies are most likely to have fbar = 0.25-0.5. Dust lanes approximately follow one of x1-orbits and tend to be more straight under a stronger and more elongated bar. A nuclear ring of a conventional x2 type forms only when the bar is not so massive or elongated. The radius of an x2-type ring is generally smaller than the inner Lindblad resonance, decreases systematically with increasing Qb, evidencing that the ring position is not determined by the resonance but by the bar strength. Nuclear spirals exist only when the ring is of the x2-type and sufficiently large in size. Unlike the other features, nuclear spirals are transient in that they start out as being tightly-wound and weak, and then due to the nonlinear effect unwind and become stronger until turning into shocks, with an unwinding rate higher for larger Qb.
Underwater architecture in providing a comfortable living space underwater is mandated to survive prevailing environmental loads, especially hydrostatic ambient water pressure exerted on the structure of individual habitat hulls at depth and hydrodynamic fluctuation of external forces that perturb the postural equilibrium and mooring stability of the underwater housing system, for which the design including the hull shape and mooring system constraint the responses. In this study, the postural stability of a proposed underwater floating housing system with three vertically connected ellipsoidal-shape habitat hulls of different sizes are theorized and calculated for hydrostatic stability, using MATLAB in the volumetric integration of a hull and the weight of operational loads under assumed scenarios. The assumptions made in the numerical method to estimate the stability of the habitat system include the fixed weight of the hulls, and their adjustable loads within operational limits for the set meteorological oceanic conditions. The purpose of this study was to numerically manipulate a) The buoyancy and b) The adjusted center of mass of the system within the range of designed external and internal load changes, by which the effective mooring system capability and postural equilibrium requirements were argued with the quantitative analysis.
Vortex-induced vibration of three circular cylinders (each of diameter D) in an equilateral triangular arrangement is investigated using the immersed boundary method. The cylinders, with one placed upstream and the other two side-by-side downstream, are free to vibrate in the cross-flow direction. The cylinder center-to-center spacing L is adopted as L/D = 2.0. Other parameters include the Reynolds number Re = 100, mass ratio $m^*=2.0$, reduced velocity $U_r=2{\sim}15$ and damping ratio ${\zeta}=0$. Cylinder vibration responses are dependent on $U_r$ and classified into five regimes, i.e. Regime I ($U_r{\leq}3.2$), Regime II ($3.2<U_r{\leq}5.0$), Regime III ($5.0<U_r{\leq}6.4$), Regime IV ($6.4<U_r{\leq}9.2$) and Regime V ($U_r>9.2$). Different facets of vibration amplitude, hydrodynamic forces, wake patterns and displacement spectra are extracted and presented in detail for each regime.
A circulating fluidized bed (CFB) has been used in various chemical industries because of good heat and mass transfer. In addition, the methanol to olefins (MTO) process requiring the CFB reactor has attracted a great deal of interest due to steep increase of oil price. To design a CFB reactor for MTO pilot process, therefore, we has examined the hydrodynamic properties of spherical catalysts with different particle size and developed a correlation equation to predict catalyst holdup in a riser of CFB reactor. The hydrodynamics of micro-spherical catalysts with average particle size of 53, 90 and 140 mm was evaluated in a $0.025m-ID{\times}4m-high$ CFB riser. We also developed a model described by a decay coefficient to predict solid hold-up distribution in the riser. The decay coefficient developed in this study could be expressed as a function of Froude number and dimensionless velocity ratio. This model could predict well the experimental data obtained from this work.
A theoretical method is developed to analyze the free vibration of an elastic annular plate in contact with an ideal liquid. The displacement potential functions of the contained liquid are expressed as a combination of the Bessel functions that satisfy the Laplace equation and the liquid boundary conditions. The compatibility condition along the interface between the annular plate and the contained liquid is taken into account to consider the fluid-structure coupling. The dynamic displacement of the wet annular plate is assumed to be a combination of dry eigenfunctions, allowing for prediction of the natural frequencies using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The study investigates the effect of radial liquid boundary conditions on the natural frequencies of the wet annular plate, considering four types of liquid bounding: outer container bounded, outer and inner bounded, inner bounded, and radially unbounded. The proposed theoretical method is validated by comparing the predicted wet natural frequencies with those obtained from finite element analysis, showing excellent accuracy. The results indicate that the radial liquid bounding effect on the natural frequencies is negligible for the axisymmetric vibrational mode, but relatively significant for the mode with one nodal diameter (n =1) and no nodal circle (m' = 0). Furthermore, the study reveals that the wet natural frequencies are the largest for the plate with an inner bounded cylinder among the radial liquid boundary cases, regardless of the vibration mode.
This study presents a numerical simulation investigating hydrodynamic characteristics of high-temperature hydrocarbon aviation fuel injected through a plain orifice injector. The analysis encompassed the temperature range up to the critical point, and the obtained results were compared with prior experimental observations. The analysis unveiled that the injector's exit pressure remains equivalent to the ambient pressure when the fuel injection temperature is below the boiling point. However, when the fuel temperature surpasses the boiling point, the exit pressure of the injector transitions to the saturated vapor pressure corresponding to the fuel injection temperature. Consequently, the exit pressure of the injector increases in tandem with the rapid increase of the saturation vapor pressure due to escalating fuel temperatures. This rise in the exit pressure necessitates a proportional increase in fuel injection pressure to ensure a fixed fuel mass flow rate. Furthermore, the investigation revealed that the discharge coefficient obtained by applying the exit pressure instead of the ambient pressure did exhibit no decrease, but rather was maintained at a nearly constant value, comparable to its level below the boiling point.

We trace the cosmological origin of satellites around isolated dwarf galaxies using a very high resolution (12 pc/h) cosmological hydrodynamic zoom simulation. To realistically describe the formation and evolution of small-mass stellar satellites, our model includes a full baryonic physics treatment. We find that the mini-halos form objects resembling dwarf galaxies. The majority of their star forming gas is accreted after reionization, thus the survival of a mini-halo's gas to reionization is not an important factor. Instead, the key factor seems to be the ability for a mini-halo to cool its recently accreted gas, which is more efficient in more massive halos. Although the host galaxy is only a dwarf galaxy itself, we find that ram pressure is an efficient means by which accreted mini-halos lose their gas content, both by interacting with hot halo gas but also in direct collisions with the gas disk of the host. The satellites are also disrupted by the tidal forces near the center of the host galaxy. Compared to the disrupted satellites, surviving satellites are relatively more massive, but tend to infall later into the host galaxy, thus reducing the time they are subjected to destructive environmental mechanisms and dynamical friction.
Galaxies are not just randomly distributed in space; instead, a variety of galaxy alignments have been found over a wide range of scales. Such alignments are the outcome of the combined effect of interacting neighbors and the surrounding large-scale structure. Here, we focus on the spin-orbit alignment (SOA) of galaxy pairs, the dynamical coherence between the spin of a target galaxy and the orbital angular momentum of its neighbor. Based on a recent cosmological hydrodynamic simulation, the IllustrisTNG project, we identify paired galaxies with mass ratios from 1/10 to 10 at z = 0 and statistically analyze their spin-orbit angle distribution. We find a clear preference for prograde orientations (i.e., SOA), which is more prominent for closer pairs. The SOA is stronger for less massive targets in lower-density regions. The SOA witnessed at z = 0 has been developed progressively since z = 2. There is a clear positive correlation between the alignment strength and the interaction duration with its current neighbor. Our results suggest the scenario in which the SOA is developed mainly by interactions with a neighbor for an extended period of time, rather than by the primordial torque exerted by the large-scale structure.
